    AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING CONDITIONAL SENTENCES OF THE SIXTH SEMESTER STUDENTS IN ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF TARBIYAH FACULTY IAIN ANTASARI

    This research describes the ability in using conditional sentences of the sixth semester students in English Department of IAIN Antasari academic year 2011/2012. The problems in this research are: 1) how is students’ ability in using conditional sentences?  2) what is the most students’ common error in using conditional sentences? This study are supposed to know the students’ ability in using conditional sentences and the most students’ common errors in using conditional sentences. The subjects in this research are 69 of 79 students in the English Department of IAIN Antasari in academic year 2011/2012. The objects of this research are the ability in using conditional sentences of the sixth semester students in the English Department of IAIN Antasari Academic Year 2011/2012 and the most students’ common errors in using conditional sentences. The data are collected by using some techniques. They are: written test, observation, interview and documentary. Data processing in this research is divided into four stages, they are checking, scoring, tabulating and interpreting. Then all data are analyzed descriptively and use inductive method to make conclusion.  The result of the research denoted that the level of students’ ability in using conditional sentences is in fair category. It is based on calculation it is mean that is 64, 8. After analyzing each type of test, the writer found that the most students’ common errors is in type III (41,6%). It can be concluded that mistakes happened because the students do not understand well about tenses that is used in conditional sentences. For example, type I we use simple present tense, type II we have to use simple past tense, and for type III we need know well about past perfect tense. The writer also concludes, the mistakes that the students have done because inappropriate in choosing modal. The students have to choose which appropriate modal should be attached to the sentence

    ENGLISH PROFICIENCY AND METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES USED BY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS AT IAIN ANTASARI BANJARMASIN

    Metacognitive strategies play important roles to develop skills in the process of learning a target language. This study investigated the metacognitive strategies and the frequency used by English Department students at IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin and determined how those metacognitive strategies were influenced by the learners’ proficiency. 105 respondents who participated in this study were the first semester students in English Department. The subjects learned English as a foreign language and were at beginning level. The strategy use was assessed through a modified Indonesian translation version of the Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (Oxford, 1990), and the proficiency was determined by the TOEFL Test. The data were distributed and analyzed using descriptive statistics.  It can be concluded that the use of metacognitive strategies among the three categories (low, middle, and high) is quite different which is the most frequent metacognitive strategies used by students’ middle category group with the Mean = 4.031, followed by students’ high category group with the Mean = 3.765, and the least metacognitive strategies used by students’ low category group Mean = 3.091. The types of meta-cognitive strategies that used by the students, including paying attention when someone is speaking English (88%), trying to find out how to be a better learner of English (85%), having clear goals for improving English skills (82%), noticing the mistakes (82%), thinking about their progress in learning English (67%) , trying to find as many ways as they can use their English (59 %), planning their schedule so they will have enough time to study English (57 %), looking for people whom they can talk to in English (52 %), and looking for opportunities to read as much as possible in English (35 %)

    AbstractThere are two  crucial questions about the study of language  teacher. The first  question is “How is a good   teacher?” The second question is “How is a good language teacher?  To answer those questions, it should be understood that teacher is a usual creation of God. Like an English proverb says”there is no one  perfect  so, the teacher maybe will do the mistakes. The teacher maybe has some weakness .  This writing tries describing some facts about teachers as general, and introducing the  reader about how is going to be a good language teacher.

    The correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and listening ability

    This research described the correlation between vocabulary mastery and listening ability of the eleventh grade students at Integrated Islamic Senior High School Qardhan Hasana Banjarbaru. The problems that should be answered in this research were: (1) how is the students‟ vocabulary mastery? (2) How is the students‟ ability in listening ability? 3) Is there any significant correlation between students‟ vocabulary mastery and their listening ability? The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at Integrated Islamic Senior High School Qardhan Hasana Banjarbaru. There were 75 students in the eleventh grade. The data of this research were collected through: written test and documentary. Then all data are analyzed with quantitative method and by using inductive method to draw conclusion. By using product moment formula, the final result shows that rxy is 0.557. For N = 75, r table in 5% fault is 0.227 and 1% fault is 0.296. It appears that rxy is more than r table. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) wss denied and the hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and listening ability. The direction of correlation is positive correlation and sufficient category

    THE SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH KALIMANTAN: PRACTICES AND CHALLENGES

    The purposes of this research are to describe types, practices of Synchronous and Asynchronous learning and to explore the challenges faced by the lecturers at English Departments in South Kalimantan. The researchers employed mixed-methods sequential explanatory design which consist of two distinct phases, quantitative (numeric data) by using questionnaire followed by qualitative by using observation and interview in order to elaborate the results obtained from quantitative data. This research was undertaken in nine English Departments in South Kalimantan. The participants were 53 English lecturers who teach at those universities. The types of synchronous used by the lecturers were Text-based chat / Instant Messaging / Online Chat (WhatsApp), Web Conferencing / Virtual Classroom (Zoom and Google Meet), Whiteboards, Real-time and Non real time document sharing (Google documents). The asynchronous types were Email, WhatsApp Group, Google Classroom, YouTube Link, PDF Files, MS Words Files, Learning Management System (LMS)/e-learning. The lecturers used direct feedback, real time classroom interaction and communication during synchronous learning. On the other hand, they provided delayed feedback, practiced not real time classroom interaction and communication in asynchronous learning. They facilitated individual and group collaboration for both learnings. The lecturers faced a number of challenges in implementing Synchronous and Asynchronous learning such as Technological Problems / Internet Connection, Students’ Motivation, Classroom Management, Lack of technological supports, Students’ Participation, Interaction, Time Management, Feedback, Materials Development, Monitoring, Instructional Method, Flexibility, and Cost Effectiveness

    Port State Measures To Combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing On The High Seas

    IUU fishing on the high seas is a serious problem for the conservation and management of the resource of high seas fisheries. There is no statistic that can adequately explain the ecological impacts of overfishing because of IUU fishing and its effect on biodiversity. Port states play a pivotal role in preventing IUU caught fish from entering the local and international trade markets. Port state control may be a deterrent to IUU operators since it would force them to call into more remote ports with less strict port state measures, therefore increasing the cost of operations for them. Thus, it can be said that port state measures are an effective means of preventing IUU high seas caught fish from being delivered to the consumer

    INTERWEAVING CHARACTER EDUCATION IN ENGLISH TEXTBOOK OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    This research is aimed at find out the character education values in reading materials of English textbook which is published by Yudhistira and Tiga Serangkai. This research used the textbook that is used by the eleventh grade of Senior High School as a handbook. This study is a descriptive qualitative research by doing content analysis. In conducting the research, the researchers analyzed the reading materials provided in the textbook by analyzing the material and determined the genre and character education value of the text. Throughout the analysis, the researchers found 15 character education values are inserted in reading text material, involve: Friendly, Social Care, Love Peace, Curiosity, Religious, Joy of Reading, Tolerance, The Spirit of Nationality, Love Homeland, Creative, Discipline, Rewarding Achievement, Hard Work, Environmental Care, and Responsibility. The teachers assess the character education values directly and joined with other evaluation, in the form of Affective. Therefore, the finding of this research is expected for the teacher to come up with the moral education which inserted in reading materials. Furthermore, in the future character education is intended can be developed and fully realized in the school practices

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk megetahui; (1) Apakah ada kontribusi koordinasi mata tanganterhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar; (2) Apakah ada kontribusi kelentukan pergelangan tangan terhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar; (3) Apakah ada kontribusi kekuatan otot lenganterhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar;(4) Apakah ada kontribusi koordinasi mata tangan, kelentukan pergelangan tangan dan kekuatan otot lengansecara bersama-sama terhadap kemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar. Populasinya adalah 120murid putraSD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar. Sampel yang digunakan adalah sebanyak 30 orang. Teknik penentuan sampel adalah dengan pemilihan secara acak (simple random sampling). Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif, analisis koefisien regresi pearson product moment (r), dan hasil analisis korelasi ganda (R) pada taraf signifikan α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; (1) Ada kontribusi yang signifikan antara koordinasi mata tanganterhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar, dengan nilai r sebesar 0,523(Pvalue ˂ α 0,05); (2) Ada kontribusi yang signifikan antara kelentukan pergelangan tangan terhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar, dengan nilai r sebesar 0,518(Pvalue ˂ α 0,05); (3) Ada kontribusi yang signifikan antara kekuatan otot lenganterhadapkemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar, dengan nilai r sebesar 0,496(Pvalue ˂ α 0,05);(4) Ada kontribusi yang signifikan antara Kontribusi koordinasi mata tangan, kelentukan pergelangan tangan dan kekuatan otot lengan secara bersama-sama terhadap kemampuan servis panjang dalam permainan bulutangkis pada murid SD Negeri Sudirman IV Makassar dengan nilai Rhitung sebesar 0,689 (Pvalue ˂ α 0,05); dan nilai Fhitung (F) sebesar 19,19

    DAMPAK INFLASI, SUKU BUNGA DAN INDEKS PRODUKSI INDUSTRI (IPI) TERHADAP PENERIMAAN ZAKAT DI BAZNAS PUSAT PERIODE 2011-2017

    Indonesia dengan jumlah penduduk muslim terbesar di dunia seharusnya menggambarkan potensi dan realisasi zakat yang tinggi. Potensi zakat di Indonesia pada tahun 2015 sebesar Rp. 286 triliun, namun dana zakat yang terkumpul hanya 1,3 persen dari total potensi yang ada. Hal ini salah satunya disebabkan oleh variabel makroekonomi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis hubungan variabel makroekonomi, yakni inflasi, suku sunga, dan indeks produksi industri (IPI) dengan penerimaan zakat di BAZNAS Pusat dari tahun 2011 sampai 2017. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksplanatori dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Adapun teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah metode Vector Autoregression (VAR), jika data tidak stasioner pada tingkat level dan terdapat kointegrasi maka metode yang digunakan Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data time series sejak Januari 2011 sampai Desember 2017 yang dikumpulkan dari laman Bank Indonesia, laman Badan Pusat Statistik, dan BAZNAS Pusat. Hasil pengujian VECM menunjukkan bahwa dalam jangka pendek inflasi dan suku bunga masing-masing berpengaruh negatif tidak signifikan terhadap penerimaan zakat, adapun IPI berpengaruh positif tidak signifikan terhadap penerimaan zakat. Adapun dalam jangka panjang inflasi berpengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap penerimaan zakat. Suku bunga berpengaruh negatif tidak signifikan dan IPI berpengaruh positif signifikan terhadap penerimaan zakat.; Indonesia with the largest population of Muslims in the world should describe the potential and realization of high zakat. Zakat potential in Indonesia in 2015 is Rp. 286 trillion, but the zakat funds collected are only 1.3 percent of the total potential. This is one of them caused by macroeconomic variables. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of macroeconomic variables, namely inflation, interest rates, and industrial production index (IPI) on zakat receipts at the Central BAZNAS from 2011 to 2017. The method used in this study was explanatory methods with quantitative approaches. The data analysis technique used is the Vector Autoregression (VAR) method, if the data is not stationary at the level and there is cointegration, the method used is Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The data used in this study are time series data from January 2011 to December 2017 collected from the website of Bank Indonesia, the website of the Central Statistics Agency, and the Central BAZNAS. The results of the VECM test show that in the short term inflation and interest rates each have a negative and not significant effect on the receipt of zakat, while the IPI has a positive and insignificant effect on the receipt of zakat. Whereas in the long run inflation has a significant negative effect on zakat receipts. Interest rates are negatively significant and IPI has a significant positive effect on zakat receipts
