Adherence to 24-Hour Movement Guidelines among Spanish Adolescents: Differences between Boys and Girls
Background: The 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for adolescents recommend >= 60 min/day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA), <= 2 h/day of screen time, and 8-10 h/day of sleep. Since little information is available on the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines in Spanish adolescents, this study aims to estimate the proportion of Spanish adolescents meeting individual and combinations of these 24-Hour Movement Guidelines. Moreover, another aim of this study is to examine gender differences in compliance with 24-Hour Movement Guidelines. Methods: A final sample of 1465 Spanish adolescents (44.50% girls; 13.08 +/- 0.86) participated in this cross-sectional study. The 24-Hour Movement Guidelines were measured during weekdays and the weekend days by self-reported questionnaires. Results: Although most adolescents met sleep duration guidelines (81.3%), only 38% and 15.8% met physical activity and screen time guidelines, respectively. Only 5.4% of these adolescents met all three 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, whereas 10.2% of this sample did not meet any of these guidelines. Although boys reported greater compliance with physical activity recommendations and girls with screen time recommendations, no significant gender differences were found in the compliance of all three 24-Hour Movement Guidelines. Conclusion: Given that 94.4% of Spanish adolescents did not meet 24-Hour Movement Guidelines, promoting all these three movement behaviours in both boys and girls is an urgent public health priority
Numerical semigroups with a given set of pseudo-Frobenius numbers
The pseudo-Frobenius numbers of a numerical semigroup are those gaps of the numerical semigroup that are maximal for the partial order induced by the semigroup. We present a procedure to detect if a given set of integers is the set of pseudo-Frobenius numbers of a numerical semigroup and, if so, to compute the set of all numerical semigroups having this set as set of pseudo-Frobenius numbers
Tailoring Anderson localization by disorder correlations in 1D speckle potentials
We study Anderson localization of single particles in continuous, correlated,
one-dimensional disordered potentials. We show that tailored correlations can
completely change the energy-dependence of the localization length. By
considering two suitable models of disorder, we explicitly show that disorder
correlations can lead to a nonmonotonic behavior of the localization length
versus energy. Numerical calculations performed within the transfer-matrix
approach and analytical calculations performed within the phase formalism up to
order three show excellent agreement and demonstrate the effect. We finally
show how the nonmonotonic behavior of the localization length with energy can
be observed using expanding ultracold-atom gases
Near-term deployment of carbon capture and sequestration from biorefineries in the United States
Capture and permanent geologic sequestration of biogenic CO2 emissions may provide critical flexibility in ambitious climate change mitigation. However, most bioenergy with carbon capture and sequestration (BECCS) technologies are technically immature or commercially unavailable. Here, we evaluate low-cost, commercially ready CO2 capture opportunities for existing ethanol biorefineries in the United States. The analysis combines process engineering, spatial optimization, and lifecycle assessment to consider the technical, economic, and institutional feasibility of near-term carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). Our modeling framework evaluates least cost source-sink relationships and aggregation opportunities for pipeline transport, which can cost-effectively transport small CO2 volumes to suitable sequestration sites; 216 existing US biorefineries emit 45 Mt CO2 annually from fermentation, of which 60% could be captured and compressed for pipeline transport for under 60/tCO2 could incent 30 Mt of sequestration and 6,900 km of pipeline infrastructure across the United States. Similarly, a carbon abatement credit, analogous to existing tradeable CO2 credits, of $90/tCO2 can incent 38 Mt of abatement. Aggregation of CO2 sources enables cost-effective long-distance pipeline transport to distant sequestration sites. Financial incentives under the low-carbon fuel standard in California and recent revisions to existing federal tax credits suggest a substantial near-term opportunity to permanently sequester biogenic CO2 This financial opportunity could catalyze the growth of carbon capture, transport, and sequestration; improve the lifecycle impacts of conventional biofuels; support development of carbon-negative fuels; and help fulfill the mandates of low-carbon fuel policies across the United States
Metrics to guide a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm for ordinal classification
Ordinal classification or ordinal regression is a classification problem in which the labels have an ordered arrangement between them. Due to this order, alternative performance evaluation metrics are need to be used in order to consider the magnitude of errors. This paper presents a study of the use of a multi-objective optimization approach in the context of ordinal classification. We contribute a study of ordinal classification performance metrics, and propose a new performance metric, the maximum mean absolute error (MMAE). MMAE considers per-class distribution of patterns and the magnitude of the errors, both issues being crucial for ordinal regression problems. In addition, we empirically show that some of the performance metrics are competitive objectives, which justify the use of multi-objective optimization strategies. In our case, a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm optimizes an artificial neural network ordinal model with different pairs of metric combinations, and we conclude that the pair of the mean absolute error (MAE) and the proposed MMAE is the most favourable. A study of the relationship between the metrics of this proposal is performed, and the graphical representation in the two-dimensional space where the search of the evolutionary algorithm takes place is analysed. The results obtained show a good classification performance, opening new lines of research in the evaluation and model selection of ordinal classifiers
Restoration of supersymmetric Slavnov-Taylor and Ward identities in presence of soft and spontaneous symmetry breaking
Supersymmetric Slavnov-Taylor and Ward identities are investigated in
presence of soft and spontaneous symmetry breaking. We consider an abelian
model where soft supersymmetry breaking yields a mass splitting between
electron and selectron and triggers spontaneous symmetry breaking, and we
derive corresponding identities that relate the electron and selectron masses
with the Yukawa coupling. We demonstrate that the identities are valid in
dimensional reduction and invalid in dimensional regularization and compute the
necessary symmetry-restoring counterterms.Comment: 35 pages, LaTeX, 9 postscript figure
RIAM-VASP module relays integrin complement receptors in outside-in signaling driving particle engulfment
The phagocytic integrins and complement receptors M 2/CR3 and X 2/CR4 are classically
associated with the phagocytosis of iC3b-opsonized particles. The activation of this receptor is
dependent on signals derived from other receptors (inside-out signaling) with the crucial involvement
of the Rap1-RIAM-Talin-1 pathway. Here, we analyze the implication of RIAM and its binding
partner VASP in the signaling events occurring downstream of 2 integrins (outside-in) during
complement-mediated phagocytosis. To this end, we used HL-60 promyelocytic cell lines deficient in
RIAM or VASP or overexpressing EGFP-tagged VASP to determine VASP dynamics at phagocytic
cups. Our results indicate that RIAM-deficient HL-60 cells presented impaired particle internalization
and altered integrin downstream signaling during complement-dependent phagocytosis. Similarly,
VASP deficiency completely blocked phagocytosis, while VASP overexpression increased the random
movement of phagocytic particles at the cell surface, with reduced internalization. Moreover,
the recruitment of VASP to particle contact sites, amount of pSer157-VASP and formation of actin-rich
phagocytic cups were dependent on RIAM expression. Our results suggested that RIAM worked as a
relay for integrin complement receptors in outside-in signaling, coordinating integrin activation and
