Charged Dilaton Black Holes with a Cosmological Constant
The properties of static spherically symmetric black holes, which are either
electrically or magnetically charged, and which are coupled to the dilaton in
the presence of a cosmological constant, are considered. It is shown that such
solutions do not exist if the cosmological constant is positive (in arbitrary
spacetime dimension >= 4). However, asymptotically anti-de Sitter black hole
solutions with a single horizon do exist if the cosmological constant is
negative. These solutions are studied numerically in four dimensions and the
thermodynamic properties of the solutions are derived. The extreme solutions
are found to have zero entropy and infinite temperature for all non-zero values
of the dilaton coupling constant.Comment: 12 pages, epsf, phyzzx, 4 in-text figures incl. (minor typos fixed, 1

Charged black holes in generalized dilaton-axion gravity
We study generic Einstein-Maxwell-Kalb-Ramond-dilaton actions, and derive
conditions under which they give rise to static, spherically symmetric black
hole solutions. We obtain new asymptotically flat and non-flat black hole
solutions which are in general electrically and magnetically charged. They have
positive definite and finite quasi-local masses. Existing non-rotating black
hole solutions (including those appearing in low energy string theory) are
recovered in special limits.Comment: Replaced with revised version, 33 pages, No figure
Charged rotating dilaton black branes in AdS universe
We present the metric for the -dimensional charged rotating dilaton
black branes with cylindrical or toroidal horizons in the background of anti-de
Sitter spacetime. We find the suitable counterterm which removes the
divergences of the action in the presence of the dilaton potential in all
higher dimensions. We plot the Penrose diagrams of the spacetime and reveal
that the spacetime geometry crucially modifies in the presence of the dilaton
field. The conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the black branes are also
computed.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Gen. Relat. Gravi
Thermodynamics of higher dimensional topological charged AdS black branes in dilaton gravity
In this paper, we study topological AdS black branes of -dimensional
Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory and investigate their properties. We use the
area law, surface gravity and Gauss law interpretations to find entropy,
temperature and electrical charge, respectively. We also employ the modified
Brown and York subtraction method to calculate the quasilocal mass of the
solutions. We obtain a Smarr-type formula for the mass as a function of the
entropy and the charge, compute the temperature and the electric potential
through the Smarr-type formula and show that these thermodynamic quantities
coincide with their values which are calculated through using the geometry.
Finally, we perform a stability analysis in the canonical ensemble and
investigate the effects of the dilaton field and the size of black brane on the
thermal stability of the solutions. We find that large black branes are stable
but for small black brane, depending on the value of dilaton field and type of
horizon, we encounter with some unstable phases.Comment: 21 pages, 21 figures, references updated, minor editing, accepted in

Particle motion and gravitational lensing in the metric of a dilaton black hole in a de Sitter universe
We consider the metric exterior to a charged dilaton black hole in a de
Sitter universe. We study the motion of a test particle in this metric.
Conserved quantities are identified and the Hamilton-Jacobi method is employed
for the solutions of the equations of motion. At large distances from the black
hole the Hubble expansion of the universe modifies the effective potential such
that bound orbits could exist up to an upper limit of the angular momentum per
mass for the orbiting test particle. We then study the phenomenon of strong
field gravitational lensing by these black holes by extending the standard
formalism of strong lensing to the non-asymptotically flat dilaton-de Sitter
metric. Expressions for the various lensing quantities are obtained in terms of
the metric coefficients.Comment: 8 pages, RevTex, 1 eps figures; discussion improved; typos corrected;

General Brane Geometries from Scalar Potentials: Gauged Supergravities and Accelerating Universes
We find broad classes of solutions to the field equations for d-dimensional
gravity coupled to an antisymmetric tensor of arbitrary rank and a scalar field
with non-vanishing potential. Our construction generates these configurations
from the solution of a single nonlinear ordinary differential equation, whose
form depends on the scalar potential. For an exponential potential we find
solutions corresponding to brane geometries, generalizing the black p-branes
and S-branes known for the case of vanishing potential. These geometries are
singular at the origin with up to two (regular) horizons. Their asymptotic
behaviour depends on the parameters of the model. When the singularity has
negative tension or the cosmological constant is positive we find
time-dependent configurations describing accelerating universes. Special cases
give explicit brane geometries for (compact and non-compact) gauged
supergravities in various dimensions, as well as for massive 10D supergravity,
and we discuss their interrelation. Some examples lift to give new solutions to
10D supergravity. Limiting cases with a domain wall structure preserve part of
the supersymmetries of the vacuum. We also consider more general potentials,
including sums of exponentials. Exact solutions are found for these with up to
three horizons, having potentially interesting cosmological interpretation. We
give several additional examples which illustrate the power of our techniques.Comment: 54 pages, 6 figures. Uses JHEP3. Published versio
Higher Dimensional Charged Rotating Dilaton Black Holes
In this paper, we present the metric for the -dimensional charged slowly
rotating dilaton black hole with independent rotation
parameters, associated with orthogonal planes of rotation in the background
of asymptotically flat and asymptotically (anti)-de Sitter spacetime. The mass,
angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined
for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. We find that the
gyromagnetic ratio crucially depends on the dilaton coupling constant,
, and decreases with increasing in any dimension.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figur
Risk profiles and one-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry.
BACKGROUND: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012-2016). In India, the mean age was 65.8 years at diagnosis of NVAF. Hypertension was the most prevalent risk factor for AF, present in 68.5% of patients from India and in 76.3% of patients globally (P < 0.001). Diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) were prevalent in 36.2% and 28.1% of patients as compared with global prevalence of 22.2% and 21.6%, respectively (P < 0.001 for both). Antiplatelet therapy was the most common antithrombotic treatment in India. With increasing stroke risk, however, patients were more likely to receive oral anticoagulant therapy [mainly vitamin K antagonist (VKA)], but average international normalized ratio (INR) was lower among Indian patients [median INR value 1.6 (interquartile range {IQR}: 1.3-2.3) versus 2.3 (IQR 1.8-2.8) (P < 0.001)]. Compared with other countries, patients from India had markedly higher rates of all-cause mortality [7.68 per 100 person-years (95% confidence interval 6.32-9.35) vs 4.34 (4.16-4.53), P < 0.0001], while rates of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleeding were lower after 1 year of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Compared to previously published registries from India, the GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data show that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger in age and have more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are underdosed compared with the global average in the GARFIELD-AF.
