Metallicity of the SrTiO3 surface induced by room temperature evaporation of alumina
It is shown that a metallic state can be induced on the surface of SrTiO3
crystals by the electron beam evaporation of oxygen deficient alumina or
insulating granular aluminium. No special preparation nor heating of the SrTiO3
surface is needed. Final metallic or insulating states can be obtained
depending on the oxygen pressure during the evaporation process.
Photoconductivity and electrical field effect are also demonstrated.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
A Graphical Language for Proof Strategies
Complex automated proof strategies are often difficult to extract, visualise,
modify, and debug. Traditional tactic languages, often based on stack-based
goal propagation, make it easy to write proofs that obscure the flow of goals
between tactics and are fragile to minor changes in input, proof structure or
changes to tactics themselves. Here, we address this by introducing a graphical
language called PSGraph for writing proof strategies. Strategies are
constructed visually by "wiring together" collections of tactics and evaluated
by propagating goal nodes through the diagram via graph rewriting. Tactic nodes
can have many output wires, and use a filtering procedure based on goal-types
(predicates describing the features of a goal) to decide where best to send
newly-generated sub-goals.
In addition to making the flow of goal information explicit, the graphical
language can fulfil the role of many tacticals using visual idioms like
branching, merging, and feedback loops. We argue that this language enables
development of more robust proof strategies and provide several examples, along
with a prototype implementation in Isabelle
Constraints on WIMP Dark Matter from the High Energy PAMELA data
A new calculation of the ratio in cosmic rays is compared to the
recent PAMELA data. The good match up to 100 GeV allows to set constraints on
exotic contributions from thermal WIMP dark matter candidates. We derive
stringent limits on possible enhancements of the WIMP \pbar flux: a =100 GeV (1 TeV) signal cannot be increased by more than a factor 6 (40)
without overrunning PAMELA data. Annihilation through the channel is
also inspected and cross-checked with data. This scenario is
strongly disfavored as it fails to simultaneously reproduce positron and

Des cultures temporaires face à la forêt classée. Exemples des paysages à l'ouest du Burkina Faso
Cette étude se propose d\u27analyser le rôle récent des espaces protégés sur l\u27évolution des paysages à l\u27ouest du Burkina Faso. L\u27analyse porte à la fois sur le changement du paysage-objet, mais aussi sur les représentations que ces espaces nouvellement protégés cristallisent. À partir d\u27une cartographie multidate et d\u27enquêtes menées sur une dizaine de terroirs villageois, situés à la périphérie d\u27une forêt classée (province du Tuy), nous tentons de comprendre comment ce découpage étatique est actuellement lu par les agriculteurs. Dans les champs, à travers l\u27observation de la terre, des jachères et des changements agricoles, nous mettons en évidence différentes pratiques et perceptions du paysage par les agriculteurs. Les modalités d\u27accès au foncier fortement liées au contexte local (position sociale de l\u27individu, saturation spatiale du terroir) semblent fortement influencer les pratiques et les représentations du paysage. Malgré les importantes mutations relevées, nous remarquons la permanence de formes et de comportements (habitat, culture temporaire, bois sacrés...) attestant de la forte dynamique locale de ces campagnes du pays Bwa

Dark Matter detection via lepton cosmic rays
Recent observations of lepton cosmic rays, coming from the PAMELA and FERMI
experiments, have pushed our understanding of the interstellar medium and
cosmic rays sources to unprecedented levels. The imprint of dark matter on
lepton cosmic rays is the most exciting explanation of both PAMELA's positron
excess and FERMI's total flux of electrons. Alternatively, supernovae are
astrophysical objects with the same potential to explain these observations. In
this work, we present an updated study of the astrophysical sources of lepton
cosmic rays and the possible trace of a dark matter signal on the positron

Numerical Investigation of Graph Spectra and Information Interpretability of Eigenvalues
We undertake an extensive numerical investigation of the graph spectra of
thousands regular graphs, a set of random Erd\"os-R\'enyi graphs, the two most
popular types of complex networks and an evolving genetic network by using
novel conceptual and experimental tools. Our objective in so doing is to
contribute to an understanding of the meaning of the Eigenvalues of a graph
relative to its topological and information-theoretic properties. We introduce
a technique for identifying the most informative Eigenvalues of evolving
networks by comparing graph spectra behavior to their algorithmic complexity.
We suggest that extending techniques can be used to further investigate the
behavior of evolving biological networks. In the extended version of this paper
we apply these techniques to seven tissue specific regulatory networks as
static example and network of a na\"ive pluripotent immune cell in the process
of differentiating towards a Th17 cell as evolving example, finding the most

OPserver: interactive online-computations of opacities and radiative accelerations
Codes to compute mean opacities and radiative accelerations for arbitrary
chemical mixtures using the Opacity Project recently revised data have been
restructured in a client--server architecture and transcribed as a subroutine
library. This implementation increases efficiency in stellar modelling where
element stratification due to diffusion processes is depth dependent, and thus
requires repeated fast opacity reestimates. Three user modes are provided to
fit different computing environments, namely a web browser, a local workstation
