Influence thermique de l’emplacement du toit en chaume sous le toit en tôle d’un habitat à Antananarivo- Madagascar

    Get PDF

Room Temperature Electrical Detection of Spin Coherence in C60

    Get PDF
An experimental demonstration of electrical detection of coherent spin motion of weakly coupled, localized electron spins in thin Fullerene C60 films at room temperature is presented. Pulsed electrically detected magnetic resonance experiments on vertical photocurrents through Al/C60/ZnO samples showed that an electron spin Rabi oscillation is reflected by transient current changes. The nature of possible microscopic mechanisms responsible for this spin to charge conversion as well as its implications for the readout of endohedral Fullerene (N@C60) spin qubits are discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Here we describe a new high frequency/high field continuous wave and pulsed electrically detected magnetic resonance (CW EDMR and pEDMR) setup, operating at 263 GHz and resonance fields between 0 and 12 T. Spin dependent transport in illuminated hydrogenated amorphous silicon p-i-n solar cells at 5 K and 90 K was studied by in operando 263 GHz CW and pEDMR alongside with complementary X-band CW EDMR. Benefiting from the superior resolution at 263 GHz, we were able to better resolve EDMR signals originating from spin dependent hopping and recombination processes. 5 K EDMR spectra were found to be dominated by conduction and valence band tale states involved in spin dependent hopping, with additional contributions from triplet exciton states. 90 K EDMR spectra could be assigned to spin pair recombination involving conduction band tail states and dangling bonds as dominating spin dependent transport process, with additional contributions from valence band tail and triplet exciton states.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

Transport and recombination through weakly coupled localized spin pairs in semiconductors during coherent spin excitation

    Get PDF
Semi-analytical predictions for the transients of spin-dependent transport and recombination rates through localized states in semiconductors during coherent electron spin excitation are made for the case of weakly spin-coupled charge carrier ensembles. The results show that the on-resonant Rabi frequency of electrically or optically detected spin-oscillation doubles abruptly as the strength of the resonant microwave field gamma B_1 exceeds the Larmor frequency separation within the pair of charge carrier states between which the transport or recombination transition takes place. For the case of a Larmor frequency separation of the order of gamma B_1 and arbitrary excitation frequencies, the charge carrier pairs exhibit four different nutation frequencies. From the calculations, a simple set of equations for the prediction of these frequencies is derived

Physical mechanisms involved in grooved flat heat pipes: experimental and numerical analyses

    Get PDF
International audienceAn experimental database, obtained with flat plate heat pipes (FPHP) with longitudinal grooves is presented. The capillary pressure measured by confocal microscopy and the temperature field in the wall are presented in various experimental conditions (vapour space thickness, filing ratio, heat transfer rate, tilt angle, fluid). Coupled hydrodynamic and thermal models are developed. Experimental results are compared to results of numerical models. Physical mechanisms involved in grooved heat pipes are discussed, including the boiling limit and the effect of the interfacial shear stress. Finally, recommendations for future experimental and theoretical research to increase the knowledge on FPHP are discussed

Investigation of evaporation and condensation processes specific to grooved flat heat pipes

International audienceTemperature and liquid-vapor interface measurements obtained with a flat plate heat pipe (FPHP) in various experimental conditions are presented. The grooved FPHP is made of copper. The results are compared to a thermal model, developed in a previous work, in which heat conduction in the FPHP wall as well as evaporation and condensation heat transfer phenomena are taken into account. The model depends on the shape of the liquid-vapor interface in the grooves and on the fins at the condenser. A good agreement is found between the evaporation model and the experimental data. However the results of the condensation model overestimate the heat transfer coefficient, due to a bad estimation of the condensate film on the fins. Experimental measurements obtained with a second FPHP made of silicon are used to analyze the shape of this film. For both evaporation and condensation models, the results show a strong influence of the accommodation coefficient

Combined effects of the filling ratio and the vapour space thickness on the performance of a flat plate heat pipe

International audienceAn experimental study of a flat plate heat pipe (FPHP) is presented. Temperature fields in the FPHP are measured for different filling ratios, heat fluxes and vapour space thicknesses. The system is hermetically sealed with a transparent plate for meniscus curvature radius observations by confocal microscopy. Experimental results show that the liquid distribution in the FPHP - and thus its thermal performance - depends strongly on both the filling ratio and the vapour space thickness. A small vapour space thickness induces liquid retention and thus reduces the thermal resistance of the system. Nevertheless, the vapour space thickness influences the level of the meniscus curvature radii in the grooves and hence reduces the maximum capillary pressure. As a result, it has to be carefully optimised to improve the performance of the FPHP. In all the cases, the optimum filling is in the range one to two times the total volume of the grooves. A theoretical approach, in non working conditions, has been developed to model the distribution of the liquid inside the FPHP in function of the filling ratio and the vapour space thickness

Context: There is little information on the potential impact of serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)2D] on bone health including turnover.

Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the influence of 1,25(OH)2D and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] on bone health in middle-aged and older European men.

Design, Setting, and Participants: Men aged 40–79 years were recruited from population registers in 8 European centers. Subjects completed questionnaires that included questions concerning lifestyle and were invited to attend for quantitative ultrasound (QUS) of the heel, assessment of height and weight, and a fasting blood sample from which 1,25(OH)2D, 25(OH)D, and PTH were measured. 1,25(OH)2D was measured using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Bone markers serum N-terminal propeptide of type 1 procollagen (P1NP) and crosslinks (β-cTX) were also measured. Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of the hip and lumbar spine was performed in 2 centers.

Main Outcome Measure(s): QUS of the heel, bone markers P1NP and β-cTX, and DXA of the hip and lumbar spine were measured.

Results: A total of 2783 men, mean age 60.0 years (SD 11.0) were included in the analysis. After adjustment for age and center, 1,25(OH)2D was positively associated with 25(OH)D but not with PTH. 25(OH)D was negatively associated with PTH. After adjustment for age, center, height, weight, lifestyle factors, and season, 1,25(OH)2D was associated negatively with QUS and DXA parameters and associated positively with β-cTX. 1,25(OH)2D was not correlated with P1NP. 25(OH)D was positively associated with the QUS and DXA parameters but not related to either bone turnover marker. Subjects with both high 1,25(OH)2D (upper tertile) and low 25(OH)D (lower tertile) had the lowest QUS and DXA parameters and the highest β-cTX levels.

Conclusions: Serum 1,25(OH)2D is associated with higher bone turnover and poorer bone health despite being positively related to 25(OH)D. A combination of high 1,25(OH)2D and low 25(OH)D is associated with the poorest bone health.</p&gt

Distributed leadership, trust and online communities

This paper analyses the role of distributed leadership and trust in online communities. The team-based informal ethos of online collaboration requires a different kind of leadership from that in formal positional hierarchies. Such leadership may be more flexible and sophisticated, capable of encompassing ambiguity and rapid change. Online leaders need to be partially invisible, delegating power and distributing tasks. Yet, simultaneously, online communities are facilitated by the high visibility and subtle control of expert leaders. This paradox: that leaders need to be both highly visible and invisible as appropriate, was derived from prior research and tested in the analysis of online community discussions using a pattern-matching process. It is argued that both leader visibility and invisibility are important for the facilitation of trusting collaboration via distributed leadership. Advanced leadership responses to complex situations in online communities foster positive group interaction and decision-making, facilitated through active distribution of specific tasks

Large Interstellar Polarisation Survey. LIPS I: FORS2 spectropolarimetry in the Southern Hemisphere

Polarimetric studies of light transmitted through interstellar clouds may give constraints on the properties of the interstellar dust grains. Traditionally, broadband linear polarisation (BBLP) measurements have been considered an important diagnostic tool for the study of the interstellar dust, while comparatively less attention has been paid to spectropolarimetric measurements. However, spectropolarimetry may offer stronger constraints than BBLP, for example by revealing narrowband features, and by allowing us to distinguish the contribution of dust from the contribution of interstellar gas. Therefore, we have decided to carry out a Large Interstellar Polarisation Survey (LIPS) using spectropolarimetric facilities in both hemispheres. Here we present the results obtained in the Southern Hemisphere with the FORS2 instrument of the ESO Very Large Telescope. Our spectra cover the wavelength range 380--950\,nm at a spectral resolving power of about 880. We have produced a publicly available catalogue of 127 linear polarisation spectra of 101 targets. We also provide the Serkowski-curve parameters, as well as the wavelength gradient of the polarisation position angle for the interstellar polarisation along 76 different lines of sight. In agreement with previous literature, we found that the best-fit parameters of the Serkowski-curve are not independent of each other. However, the relationships that we obtained are not always consistent with what was found in previous studies.Comment: Accepted by A&A (replaced on 12 October 2017 simply to correct a Metadata error
