Second order perturbation theory for embedded eigenvalues

We study second order perturbation theory for embedded eigenvalues of an abstract class of self-adjoint operators. Using an extension of the Mourre theory, under assumptions on the regularity of bound states with respect to a conjugate operator, we prove upper semicontinuity of the point spectrum and establish the Fermi Golden Rule criterion. Our results apply to massless Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonians for arbitrary coupling.Comment: 30 pages, 2 figure

Eigenvalues of Laplacian with constant magnetic field on non-compact hyperbolic surfaces with finite area

    Get PDF
We consider a magnetic Laplacian −ΔA=(id+A)⋆(id+A)-\Delta_A=(id+A)^\star (id+A) on a noncompact hyperbolic surface \mM with finite area. AA is a real one-form and the magnetic field dAdA is constant in each cusp. When the harmonic component of AA satifies some quantified condition, the spectrum of −ΔA-\Delta_A is discrete. In this case we prove that the counting function of the eigenvalues of −ΔA-\Delta_{A} satisfies the classical Weyl formula, even when $dA=0.

Spectral theory for a mathematical model of the weak interaction: The decay of the intermediate vector bosons W+/-, II

We do the spectral analysis of the Hamiltonian for the weak leptonic decay of the gauge bosons W+/-. Using Mourre theory, it is shown that the spectrum between the unique ground state and the first threshold is purely absolutely continuous. Neither sharp neutrino high energy cutoff nor infrared regularization are assumed.Comment: To appear in Ann. Henri Poincar\'

Essential self-adjointness of magnetic Schr\"odinger operators on locally finite graphs

We give sufficient conditions for essential self-adjointness of magnetic Schr\"odinger operators on locally finite graphs. Two of the main theorems of the present paper generalize recent results of Torki-Hamza.Comment: 14 pages; The present version differs from the original version as follows: the ordering of presentation has been modified in several places, more details have been provided in several places, some notations have been changed, two examples have been added, and several new references have been inserted. The final version of this preprint will appear in Integral Equations and Operator Theor

On the wave operators for the Friedrichs-Faddeev model

We provide new formulae for the wave operators in the context of the Friedrichs-Faddeev model. Continuity with respect to the energy of the scattering matrix and a few results on eigenfunctions corresponding to embedded eigenvalues are also derived.Comment: 10 page

'Return to equilibrium' for weakly coupled quantum systems: a simple polymer expansion

Recently, several authors studied small quantum systems weakly coupled to free boson or fermion fields at positive temperature. All the approaches we are aware of employ complex deformations of Liouvillians or Mourre theory (the infinitesimal version of the former). We present an approach based on polymer expansions of statistical mechanics. Despite the fact that our approach is elementary, our results are slightly sharper than those contained in the literature up to now. We show that, whenever the small quantum system is known to admit a Markov approximation (Pauli master equation \emph{aka} Lindblad equation) in the weak coupling limit, and the Markov approximation is exponentially mixing, then the weakly coupled system approaches a unique invariant state that is perturbatively close to its Markov approximation.Comment: 23 pages, v2-->v3: Revised version: The explanatory section 1.7 has changed and Section 3.2 has been made more explici

Regularity of the eta function on manifolds with cusps

On a spin manifold with conformal cusps, we prove under an invertibility condition at infinity that the eta function of the twisted Dirac operator has at most simple poles and is regular at the origin. For hyperbolic manifolds of finite volume, the eta function of the Dirac operator twisted by any homogeneous vector bundle is shown to be entire.Comment: 22 pages, 2 figure

Fock Spaces, and Spectral Analysis of Schrödinger Operators on Trees, mp arc 04–182

    Get PDF
We construct conjugate operators for the real part of a completely non unitary isometry and we give applications to the spectral and scattering theory of a class of operators on (complete) Fock spaces, natural generalizations of the Schrödinger operators on trees. We consider C ∗-algebras generated by such Hamiltonians with certain types of anisotropy at infinity, we compute their quotient with respect to the ideal of compact operators, and give formulas for the essential spectrum of these Hamiltonians.
