Story Point (SP) is one of the most common metric in agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban. Although being subjective, story point is very useful for grooming and sizing of the backlog items, cost, squad velocity and capacity estimation. Cosmic Functional Points (CFP) is an objective metric used for estimating the functional scope of the software and it is an ISO standard (ISO 19761). This study investigates the use, similarities and differences of boh SP and CFP in agile software development practices in the largest technology and communications provider of Turkey. As a result, SP is an effective tool for grooming the user stories whereas CFP provides successful results for measuring output of the squad, quality trend and outsource contracts. Also, a preanalysis for a linear regression model of CFP versus effort estimation is conducted in this paper and the initial results are shared.Publisher versio

An example of secondary fault activity along the North Anatolian Fault on the NE Marmara Sea Shelf, NW Turkey

Seismic data on the NE Marmara Sea Shelf indicate that a NNE-SSW-oriented buried basin and ridge system exist on the sub-marine extension of the Paleozoic Rocks delimited by the northern segment of the North Anatolian Fault (NS-NAF), while seismic and multi-beam bathymetric data imply that four NW-SE-oriented strike-slip faults also exist on the shelf area. Seismic data indicate that NW-SE-oriented strike-slip faults are the youngest structures that dissect the basin-ridge system. One of the NW-SE-oriented faults (F1) is aligned with a rupture of the North Anatolian Fault (NAF) cutting the northern slope of the Cinarcik Basin. This observation indicates that these faults have similar characteristics with the NS-NAF along the Marmara Sea. Therefore, they may have a secondary relation to the NAF since the principle deformation zone of the NAF follows the Marmara Trough in that region. The seismic energy recorded on these secondary faults is much less than that on the NAF in the Marmara Sea. These faults may, however, produce a large earthquake in the long term

Quaternary glacial history of the Mediterranean mountains

    Get PDF
Glacial and periglacial landforms are widespread in the mountains of the Mediterranean region. The evidence for glacial and periglacial activity has been studied for over 120 years and it is possible to identify three phases of development in this area of research. First, a pioneer phase characterized by initial descriptive observations of glacial landforms; second, a mapping phase whereby the detailed distribution of glacial landforms and sediments have been depicted on geomorphological maps; and, third, an advanced phase characterized by detailed understanding of the geochronology of glacial sequences using radiometric dating alongside detailed sedimentological and stratigraphical analyses. It is only relatively recently that studies of glaciated mountain terrains in the Mediterranean region have reached an advanced phase and it is now clear from radiometric dating programmes that the Mediterranean mountains have been glaciated during multiple glacial cycles. The most extensive phases of glaciation appear to have occurred during the Middle Pleistocene. This represents a major shift from earlier work whereby many glacial sequences were assumed to have formed during the last cold stage. Glacial and periglacial deposits from multiple Quaternary cold stages constitute a valuable palaeoclimatic record. This is especially so in the Mediterranean mountains, since mountain glaciers in this latitudinal zone would have been particularly sensitive to changes in the global climate system. © 2006 Edward Arnold (Publishers) Ltd

Redating the formation of Lake Bafa, western Turkey: Integrative geoarchaeological methods and new environmental and dating evidence

The ancient Gulf of Latmos is an iconic example of a dynamic landscape and humankind's historical relationship with it. Using extensive new primary data and original models for calibrating radiocarbon dates in transitional lagoon environments, we demonstrate that Lake Bafa (or Bafa Gölü, in Turkish) formed at a much earlier date than previously thought. In questioning the logical process by which previous dates were achieved, we re‐examine the relationship between sedimentological data, archaeology and written history. We reassert the need to establish independently dated environmental data sets as the foundation of regional studies as distinct from archaeological and historical interpretive processes. We conclude that Lake Bafa slowly transitioned to become an isolated lagoon sometime between the end of the second millennium B.C. and end of the first millennium B.C.; becoming a fully closed brackish lake during the second millennium A.D. This marks a major shift in our understanding of the nature of human occupation and activity here during the last four millennia but also in the way we date ancient lagoons and integrate historical and environmental data in general

Preventing the diversion of Turkish opium

    Get PDF
Turkey was once one of the world’s largest sources of illicit opium; the majority diverted from sparsely regulated licit production. Since 1972, however, it has contributed almost no opium to the global black market. As such, Turkey is one of a small number of states to have eradicated, or severally reduced, the national supply of illicit opium. This article reconsiders post-1974 Turkish controls from a situational crime prevention perspective. It is suggested that Turkish success was founded upon reducing opportunities for diversion from regulated production by hardening targets, increasing formal and informal surveillance, assisting compliance through fair procurement practices and increasing the risk of non-compliance

A COMPARISON OF DIGOXIN CONCENTRATION - TIME CURVES BEFORE AND AFTER OPEN-HEART-SURGERY

    No full text
The effects of open heart surgery on serum digoxin concentration - time curves were investigated in 10 cardiac patients receiving 0.25 mg/day digoxin. Blood samples were obtained from the patients immediately before and 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 16 and 24 h after digoxin administration, both before open-heart surgery and 7 days after surgery. Serum digoxin concentrations, determined by fluorescence polarization immuno-assay, significantly (P < 0.05) increased after surgery, as did the maximum serum concentrations and the areas under the concentration - time curves. After surgery there was a significant increase in the serum gamma-glutamyl transferase concentration and a significant reduction in the total protein concentration. A reduction of digoxin dose may be appropriate for patients who have undergone open-heart surgery
