    A Mathematica Notebook for Computing the Homology of Iterated Products of Groups

    Let G be a group which admits the structure of an iterated product of central extensions and semidirect products of abelian groups G i (both finite and infinite). We describe a Mathematica 4.0 notebook for computing the homology of G, in terms of some homological models for the factor groups G i and the products involved. Computational results provided by our program have allowed the simplification of some of the formulae involved in the calculation of H n (G). Consequently the efficiency of the method has been improved as well. We include some executions and examples

    Influencia del patrón en la adaptación del almendro frente al estrés hídrico

    Comunicación presentada al XXXVII Congreso Nacional de Riegos, celebrado en Don Benito del 4 al 6 de Junio de 2019 y organizada por la Asociación Española de Riegos y Drenajes y la Universidad de ExtremaduraEn las últimas décadas el cultivo del almendro ha experimentado una gran transformación, pasando de ser un cultivo marginal a constituir un cultivo principal y ocupando en la actualidad amplias zonas de regadío. Sin embargo, la implantación de un sistema de riego no siempre es posible y numerosas plantaciones de almendro continúan realizándose en secano. En estas condiciones la elección del material vegetal adecuado es un factor importante y existe una presión considerable en el sector agrícola para producir de modo más eficiente, reduciendo la cantidad de agua aplicada. Se pretende conocer la respuesta fisiológica al déficit hídrico de plantas de almendro (Prunus dulcis L. cv. Soleta) autorradicadas o injertadas en Rootpac20, mediante el estudio de las relaciones hídricas, crecimiento, transpiración e intercambio gaseoso. La respuesta fisiológica fue evaluada durante un ciclo de estrés hídrico (supresión del riego durante 20 días) y un posterior ciclo de recuperación en plantas en maceta creciendo en invernadero. Los resultados mostraron diferentes respuestas de la variedad Soleta dependiendo de la presencia o no de patrón. El desarrollo de las plantas se vio afectado por el régimen hídrico y la biomasa foliar se redujo en las plantas en las que el riego fue suprimido. El estrés hídrico redujo el diámetro del tronco en los dos formatos, pero el patrón Rootpac20 marcó de una manera más acusada este comportamiento. La evapotranspiracion se redujo según descendió la humedad del sustrato. Cuando el riego se restableció en las plantas del tratamiento deficitario, los valores de evapotranspiración aumentaron, pero permanecieron más bajos que las plantas regadas durante todo el ensayo. El pie franco minimizó la reducción de la fotosíntesis durante la fase de estrés y facilitó la recuperación cuando el riego se restableció, consiguiendo mejor estado hídrico y una rehidratación más rápida que las plantas injertadas sobre patrón Rootpac20.Fondo Europeo Agrícola de Desarrollo Rural (FEADER

    Changes on grape volatile composition after elicitors and nitrogen compounds foliar applications to 'Garnacha', 'Tempranillo' and 'Graciano' vines

    Grape volatile compounds determine the wine quality and typicity. The aim of this work was to study the effects of several foliar applications in 'Garnacha', 'Tempranillo', and 'Graciano' grapevines in order to enhance their grape volatile composition. The field trial involved the application of two nitrogen compounds, urea (Ur) and phenylalanine (Phe), and two elicitors, methyl jasmonate (MeJ) and a yeast extract (YE). The analysis of grape volatile compounds was carried out by HS-SPME-GC-MS. For 'Garnacha', most terpenes, and C13 norisoprenoids increased their grape content by applying Ur and Phe, and especially MeJ. For 'Tempranillo', treatments with Ur and MeJ improved the synthesis of most terpenoids. For 'Graciano', a trend to decrease the terpenoids content in grapes with the treatments was observed; however, Phe application increased C13 norisoprenoids content. In conclusion, foliar application of, Phe or Ur, and an elicitor, MeJ, can be a useful tool to improve grape quality

    The Imaging Magnetograph eXperiment (IMaX) for the Sunrise balloon-borne solar observatory

    The Imaging Magnetograph eXperiment (IMaX) is a spectropolarimeter built by four institutions in Spain that flew on board the Sunrise balloon-borne telesocope in June 2009 for almost six days over the Arctic Circle. As a polarimeter IMaX uses fast polarization modulation (based on the use of two liquid crystal retarders), real-time image accumulation, and dual beam polarimetry to reach polarization sensitivities of 0.1%. As a spectrograph, the instrument uses a LiNbO3 etalon in double pass and a narrow band pre-filter to achieve a spectral resolution of 85 mAA. IMaX uses the high Zeeman sensitive line of Fe I at 5250.2 AA and observes all four Stokes parameters at various points inside the spectral line. This allows vector magnetograms, Dopplergrams, and intensity frames to be produced that, after reconstruction, reach spatial resolutions in the 0.15-0.18 arcsec range over a 50x50 arcsec FOV. Time cadences vary between ten and 33 seconds, although the shortest one only includes longitudinal polarimetry. The spectral line is sampled in various ways depending on the applied observing mode, from just two points inside the line to 11 of them. All observing modes include one extra wavelength point in the nearby continuum. Gauss equivalent sensitivities are four Gauss for longitudinal fields and 80 Gauss for transverse fields per wavelength sample. The LOS velocities are estimated with statistical errors of the order of 5-40 m/s. The design, calibration and integration phases of the instrument, together with the implemented data reduction scheme are described in some detail.Comment: 17 figure

    Tutorial action in the EHEA at the Faculty of Pharmacy of us: 4 years of experience of a student mentoring program

    La Facultad de Farmacia de la Universidad de Sevilla (US) tiene en marcha un Programa de Alumnos Tutores desde 2006/07 con el objetivo de que alumnos de cursos superiores (AATT) tutelen a alumnos de nuevo ingreso (1x3). Pretende generar una actitud responsable en los AATT y favorecerles el desarrollo de habilidades sociales, objetivos cualitativos dentro de la educación universitaria que sirven como preparación previa a su inserción en el mundo laboral. La actividad es supervisada por Profesores Tutores (1x3) que analizan la evolución de ambos grupos de alumnos. Es una supervisión activa a través de distintas vías de acción para ayudar a la consecución de objetivos, tales como entrevistas periódicas, revisión de informes, acciones de apoyo como charlas sobre técnicas de estudio, coloquios sobre salidas laborales, exposiciones de las experiencias personales de algunos alumnos recientemente egresados, gestión estratégica de búsqueda de empleo, elaboración de portafolios,… Con respecto a la evolución del programa, el número de profesores ha crecido moderadamente llegando a una situación estable, mientras que el número de alumnos, tanto tutores como tutelados, ha crecido en un ritmo constante acorde a las restricciones indicadas. Los resultados son muy positivos, entendiéndose que el proyecto se enmarca en un contexto más cualitativo que cuantitativo y que el principal objetivo es el robustecimiento de la experiencia y asentar una dinámica de apoyo hacia los alumnos de nuevo ingreso y de planificación de tareas, tutela y responsabilidad en general de los alumnos tutores.The Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Seville (US) has developed a Student Mentoring Program (from 2006/07 - present). The main objective of this project is that senior students act as Mentor Students for students at their first year in the University (1x3). It aims to generate a responsible attitude in mentor students and to promote the development of social skills, qualitative goals within higher education that serve as preparation prior to their integration into the world of work. This activity is supervised by Mentor Professors (1x3) that analyze the evolution of both groups of students. It is an active monitoring through various actions such as regular interviews, review of reports, support operations such as lectures on study skills, seminars on job opportunities, statements of personal experiences of some recently graduated students, strategic management job search, portfolio development... With regard to the development of the program, the number of Mentor Professors has grown moderately, reaching a stable condition, while the number of students, both tutor and supervised, has grown steadily in line with the restrictions indicated. The results are very positive, considering the more qualitative than quantitative character of the project and that the main objectives are the strengthening of the experience and the establishment of a dynamic support to the new students and scheduling and general responsibility for mentor students

    On soil-structure interaction in large non-slender partially buried structures

    This paper addresses the seismic analysis of a deeply embedded non-slender structure hosting the pumping unit of a reservoir. The dynamic response in this type of problems is usually studied under the assumption of a perfectly rigid structure using a sub-structuring procedure (three-step solution) proposed specifically for this hypothesis. Such an approach enables a relatively simple assessment of the importance of some key factors influencing the structural response. In this work, the problem is also solved in a single step using a direct approach in which the structure and surrounding soil are modelled as a coupled system with its actual geometry and flexibility. Results indicate that, quite surprisingly, there are significant differences among prediction using both methods. Furthermore, neglecting the flexibility of the structure leads to a significant underestimation of the spectral accelerations at certain points of the structure

    Relativistic projectile fragmentation of a 208Pb primary beam has been used to produce neutron-rich nuclei with proton-holes relative to the Z = 82 shell closure, i.e., “south” of Pb. βDelayed γRay spectroscopy allows to investigate the structural properties of such nuclei with A ~ 195 → 205.
