    Rare decay t→cγγt\to c\gamma\gamma via scalar leptoquark doublets

    A calculation of the one-loop contribution to the rare three-body flavor changing neutral current top quark decay t→cγγt\to c\gamma\gamma is presented in the framework of models with one or more scalar leptoquark SU(2)SU(2) doublets with hypercharge 7/67/6. Analytical expressions for the invariant amplitude of the generic decay fi→fjγγf_i\to f_j\gamma\gamma, with fi,jf_{i,j} a lepton or quark, are presented in terms of Passarino-Veltman integral coefficients, from which the amplitudes for the processes t→cγγt\to c\gamma\gamma and ℓi→ℓjγγ\ell_i\to \ell_j\gamma\gamma follow easily. An analysis of the current constraints on the parameter space is presented in the scenario with only one scalar LQ doublet and bounds on the LQ couplings are obtained from the muon g−2g-2 anomaly, the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decay τ→μγ\tau\to \mu\gamma and extra constraints meant to avoid tension between theory predictions and experimental data. For a LQ with a mass in the range of 11--1.51.5 TeVs, the estimate Br(t→cγγ)∼10−11{\rm Br}(t\to c\gamma\gamma)\sim 10^{-11}--10−1210^{-12} is obtained for the largest allowed values of the LQ coupling constants, which means that this decay would be below the reach of future experimental measurements. We also consider an scenario with three scalar doublets, which was recently proposed to explain the lepton flavor universality violation anomalies in BB decays as well as the muon g−2g-2 anomaly. Although this scenario allows large LQ couplings to the tau lepton and the cc and tt quarks, the branching ratio of the t→cγγt\to c\gamma\gamma decay is also of the order of 10−1110^{-11}--10−1210^{-12} for LQ masses of 1.7 TeV.Comment: In preparation for Journal Submissio

    Integrating The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership Model into Entrepreneurship Education

    Entrepreneurship educators can assess their students by focusing on leadership self-efficacy dimensions that align with desirable entrepreneurship behaviors. To support this claim, we used the Student Leadership Practices Inventory (S-LPI) to survey a group of 46 undergraduate students in Mexico and 49 undergraduate students in Spain that were involved in entrepreneurship education programs. Independent samples t-tests show statistically significant differences between the two groups. We also compared the whole sample in terms of gender and found no differences. We propose that educators integrate Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership model into de design and assessment of their curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurship development programs. Specifically, the model serves educators from different countries, in this case Mexico and Spain, by identifying the leadership behaviors that their students enact. By integrating the five practices of exemplary leadership model, educators can account for variables like nation of origin and gender, and identify differences between groups

    Imported strongyloidiasis : Data from 1245 cases registered in the +REDIVI Spanish collaborative network (2009-2017)

    Background Imported strongyloidiasis is increasingly being diagnosed in non-endemic areas. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with imported strongyloidiasis in Spain. Methodology This is an observational retrospective study that included all patients diagnosed of strongyloidiasis registered in the +REDIVI Collaborative Network from 2009 to 2017. Demographic, epidemiological and clinical information was collected from the +REDIVI database, and extra information regarding microbiological techniques, treatment and follow-up was requested to participant centers. Findings Overall, 1245 cases were included. Most of them were immigrants (66.9%), and South America was the most frequent area of origin. Detection of larvae in stool samples was observed in 21.9% of the patients, and serological tests allowed making the diagnosis in the rest of the cases. Eosinophilia was present in 82.2% of cases. Treatment with ivermectin (compared with albendazole) was the most strongly associated factor to achieve the cure (OR 2.34). Conclusions Given the long latency of the infection and the risk of developing a severe presentation, screening of S. stercoralis infection should be mandatory in patients coming from or had traveling to endemic areas, especially in those with immunosuppressant conditions

    IEOOS, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography integrated ocean Observing System

    Since its foundation, 100 years ago, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) has been observing and measuring the ocean characteristics. Some systems like the tide gauges network has been working for more than 60 years. The IEO standard sections began at different moments depending on the local projects, and nowadays there are XXX coastal stations and XXX deep ones that are systematically sampled, taking physical as well as biochemical measurements. At this moment, the IEO Observing System (IEOOS) includes 4 permanent moorings equipped with currentmeters, an open-sea ocean-meteorological buoy offshore Santander and an SST satellital image reception station. It also supports the Spanish contribution to the ARGO international program with 47 deployed profilers, and continuous monitoring thermosalinometers, meteorological stations and ADCP installed on the IEO research vessels. All these networks are linked to international iniciatives like SeaDataNet, Emodnet, IbiROOS and MONGOOS. The system is completed with the IEO contribution to the RAIA and Gibraltar observatories, and the development of regional prediction models. All these systematic measurements allow IEO to give responses to ocean research activities, official agencies requirements and industrial and main society demands

    Chikungunya virus infections among travellers returning to Spain, 2008 to 2014

    Since the first documented autochthonous transmission of chikungunya virus in the Caribbean island of Saint Martin in 2013, the infection has been reported within the Caribbean region as well as North, Central and South America. The risk of autochthonous transmission of chikungunya virus becoming established in Spain may be elevated due to the large numbers of travellers returning to Spain from countries affected by the 2013 epidemic in the Caribbean and South America, as well as the existence of the Aedes albopictus vector in certain parts of Spain. We retrospectively analysed the laboratory diagnostic database of the National Centre for Microbiology, Institute of Health Carlos III (CNM-ISCIII) from 2008 to 2014. During the study period, 264 confirmed cases, of 1,371 suspected cases, were diagnosed at the CNM-ISCIII. In 2014 alone, there were 234 confirmed cases. The highest number of confirmed cases were reported from the Dominican Republic (n = 136), Venezuela (n = 30) and Haiti (n = 11). Six cases were viraemic in areas of Spain where the vector is present. This report highlights the need for integrated active case and vector surveillance in Spain and other parts of Europe where chikungunya virus may be introduced by returning travellers
