Caracterización de los áridos del río dos mangas y cantera del cerro el tablazo de la provincia de Santa Elena para utilizarlo como material de construcción
The work that is presented in this project contains information about the arids extracted from the quarry of the
hill El Tablazo, located in Santa Elena City, and the Dos Mangas river, located in Manglaralto , the same that are
used in several works of civil engineering in all the province of Santa Elena, such as bases, sub bases of roads,
landfills, improvement of soils for foundations, breakwaters and manufacture of concretes and mortars. Also there
is a study of the classifications of these materials, procedure that must be accomplished and applications in the
field of construction. The materials extracted from the locations previously mentioned were submitted to laboratory
test programs in order to determinate their properties and physic and mechanical characteristics and then establish
if they are suitable for use it in the construction of sub bases of roads and landfills evaluating them according the
specifications MOP - 001F - 2002
MoS2-Carbon Nanodots as a New Electrochemiluminescence Platform for Breast Cancer Biomarker Detection
In this work, we present the combination of two different types of nanomaterials, 2D molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS2-NS) and zero-dimensional carbon nanodots (CDs), for the development of a new electrochemiluminescence (ECL) platform for the early detection and quantification of the biomarker human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), whose overexpression is associated with breast cancer. MoS2-NS are used as an immobilization platform for the thiolated aptamer, which can recognize the HER2 epitope peptide with high affinity, and CDs act as coreactants of the anodic oxidation of the luminophore [Ru(bpy)3]2+. The HER2 biomarker is detected by changes in the ECL signal of the [Ru(bpy)3]2+/CD system, with a low detection limit of 1.84 fg/mL and a wide linear range. The Effect of Physical Activity and High Body Mass Index on Health-Related Quality of Life in Individuals with Metabolic Syndrome
[EN] The main objective of this study was to examine the relationship between the level of physical activity (PA) and the degree of obesity with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS) who participated in the Predimed-Plus study. A total of 6875 subjects between 55 and 75 years of age with MetS were selected and randomized in 23 Spanish centers. Subjects were classified according to categories of body mass index (BMI). PA was measured with the validated Registre Gironi del Cor (REGICOR) questionnaire and subjects were classified according to their PA level (light, moderate, vigorous) and the HRQoL was measured with the validated short-form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire. By using the ANOVA model, we found a positive and statistically significant association between the level of PA and the HRQoL (aggregated physical and mental dimensions p < 0.001), but a negative association with higher BMI in aggregated physical dimensions p < 0.001. Furthermore, women obtained lower scores compared with men, more five points in all fields of SF-36. Consumption of caffeinated beverages and kidney function decline in an elderly Mediterranean population with metabolic syndrome

tea, or caffeine intake and 1-year changes in glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in a large Spanish cohort of overweight/obese elderly with metabolic syndrome (MetS). This prospective analysis includes 5851
overweight/obese adults (55–75 years) with MetS from the PREDIMED-Plus study. We assessed coffee, tea, and caffeine consumption from a validated food-frequency questionnaire and creatinine-based
eGFR using the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equation. Multivariate-adjusted regression models were applied to test associations between baseline coffee, tea, or caffeine intake
and 1-year eGFR changes. Caffeinated coffee (> 2 cups/day) and tea (at least 1 cup/day) drinkers had 0.88 and 0.93 mL/min/1.73 m2 greater eGFR decrease respectively, compared to those with less than 1 cup/day of coffee consumption or non-tea drinkers. Furthermore, caffeinated coffee consumption of > 2 cups/day was associated with 1.19-fold increased risk of rapid eGFR decline > 3 mL/min/1.73 m2 (95% CI 1.01–1.41). Similarly, individuals in the highest (median, 51.2 mg/day) tertile of caffeine intake had a 0.87 mL/min/1.73 m2 greater eGFR decrease. Decaffeinated coffee was not associated with eGFR changes. In conclusion, higher onsumption of caffeinated coffee, tea, and caffeine was associated with a greater 1-year eGFR decline in overweight/obese adults with MetS.S
Impact of treatment and clinical characteristics on the survival of children with medulloblastoma in Mexico
IntroductionData on medulloblastoma outcomes and experiences in low- and middle-income countries, especially in Latin America, is limited. This study examines challenges in Mexico’s healthcare system, focusing on assessing outcomes for children with medulloblastoma in a tertiary care setting.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted, involving 284 patients treated at 21 pediatric oncology centers in Mexico.ResultsHigh-risk patients exhibited markedly lower event-free survival than standard-risk patients (43.5% vs. 78.3%, p<0.001). Influential factors on survival included anaplastic subtype (HR 2.4, p=0.003), metastatic disease (HR 1.9, p=0.001); residual tumor >1.5cm², and lower radiotherapy doses significantly impacted event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS). Platinum-based chemotherapy showed better results compared to the ICE protocol in terms of OS and EFS, which was associated with higher toxicity. Patients under 3 years old displayed notably lower OS and EFS compared to older children (36.1% vs. 55.9%, p=0.01)

Alkylammonium Cation Affinities of Nitrogenated Organobases: The Roles of Hydrogen Bonding and Proton Transfer

To access the final edited and published work see https://doi.org/10.1002/cplu.202100235Alkylammonium cation affinities of 64 nitrogen-containing organobases, as well as the respective proton transfer processes from the alkylammonium cations to the base, have been computed in the gas phase by using DFT methods. The guanidine bases show the highest proton transfer values (191.9–233 kJ mol−1) whereas the cis-2,2’-biimidazole presents the largest affinity towards the alkylammonium cations (>200 kJ mol−1) values. The resulting data have been compared with the experimentally reported proton affinities of the studied nitrogen-containing organobases revealing that the propensity of an organobase for the proton transfer process increases linearly with its proton affinity. This work can provide a tool for designing senors for bioactive compounds containing amino groups that are protonated at physiological pH
