Fatherhood and a Partner\u27s Postpartum Depression: Coping, Relationship Satisfaction, Gender Roles, and Empathy

The present study focused on assessing differences in new father’s coping styles when living with a partner suffering from symptoms of postpartum depression. It further investigated whether a relationship existed between father’s coping style and their level of relationship satisfaction, empathy, and views on gender. Five fathers, between the ages of 27 and 46 volunteered their participation in this study. Fathers were recruited through their partners from medical and mental health clinics and agencies offering services to new mothers or mothers suffering from symptoms of postpartum depression. The Coping Responses Inventory (CRI) was utilized to determine if differences existed in father’s coping. The Relationship Assessment (RAS), Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and Sex-Role Egalitarianism Scale, Form BB (SRES), assisted in measuring level of relationship satisfaction, empathy and gender roles, respectively. To assist with the completion of this study, a quantitative research design was selected and applied. The use of a case study approach was further implemented to articulate if there was uniformity or differences in father’s coping styles and to examine any associations between fathers coping and their level of relationship satisfaction, empathy, and views on gender. Hypotheses were then tested across the five case studies. The study found that fathers differ in coping styles when their partners are suffering from symptoms of postpartum depression. Significant associations were not found between coping, and father’s level of relationship satisfaction, empathy and views on gender. Implications of the Information Technology Revolution for People with Disabilities

The paper focuses on opportunities for the integration of persons with different types of disabilities in the information technology (IT) labour market. Recent IT developments are identified and examined for their potentially harmful or beneficial effects on access to the IT labour market for persons with disabilities. The opportunities created by new job creation, new forms of training, teleworking, and the role of assistive technologies in facilitating workplace accommodations are briefly described. The focus is on new options for the design and implementation of computer-related assistive technologies in the workplace, and the impact of teleworking and the World Wide Web on employability and work-related training of persons with disabilities. The paper closes with a brief discussion of the roles that government agencies, business firms, labour unions, non-governmental organisations and education can play to help people with disabilities join the IT revolution and share its benefits

Improved algorithms to acquire and process gravity and deformation data

The work presented in this deliverable is part of the efforts to meet the following sub-objectives of the DigiMon project: • Prepare for integration of DigiMon system by developing and lifting individual components of the system to a common, high TRL. • Secure optimal performance of the DigiMon system by optimization and validation of processing software for DigiMon system components • Develop and implement efficient techniques for data acquisition and processing of gravity, seafloor deformation and seismic data. More specifically, deliverable D2.1 summarizes contributions to the development of two individual technologies, microgravity at the seafloor and seafloor deformation monitoring for applications within CCS. In total, four individual developments are described in this deliverable. The developments contribute to reducing the cost of gravimetry and seafloor deformation monitoring to make them more feasible for CO2 sequestration applications, which are more price-sensitive than for the case of oil and gas. In addition, they aim at improving the accuracy of the data to facilitate refined quantitative estimates of the properties of the storage unit and improve CCS management

Tratamiento doctrinal de la objeción de conciencia y la desobediencia civil en Ronald Dworkin y Jürgen Habermas

Las figuras de objeción de conciencia (OC) y desobediencia civil (DC) han sido estudiadas por diversos autores, pero muchos de ellos siempre acuden a los mismos referentes teóricos: “autores frontera” que estudian dichas figuras tangencialmente al cobijo de sus tesis fundamentales y que se convierten en referencia obligada -clásicos- para posteriores investigaciones. Esta situación es propia de la aplicación del principio de saturación. El objetivo de este ensayo es tomar a uno de esos autores frontera (Ronald Dworkin y Jürgen Habermas), y analizar a profundidad el ADN de la OC y de la DC y al mismo tiempo discutir con el autor respecto de la aplicación de sus premisas

La pobreza energética en mujeres rurales mexicanas: el adobe como tecnología sustentable

La relevancia de este estudio radica en la convicción de que los esfuerzos de apoyo al desarrollo rural, en especial a los millones de personas que viven en condiciones de pobreza extrema en México, deben orientarse, al acceso limpio, accesible y sustentable de energía como un factor que puede propiciar el desarrollo económico y la reducción de la pobreza. Esta es una investigación con perspectiva de género, orientada hacia el desarrollo rural a partir del diseño, cuyo objetivo es implementar tecnologías sustentables para la obtención de energía. La metodología contempla, trabajo etnográfico con visitas de campo, registros fotográficos y entrevistas a profundidad en tres comunidades de extrema pobreza del Estado de México. La investigación presenta un análisis de las opciones más viables para la obtención de energía sustentable, dando como resultado la utilización de adobe en la construcción de estufas o fogones y diseños más eficientes

Evaluación de la fertilidad de un andisol en Zipaquirá (Cundinamarca, Colombia) para el cultivo de romero (Rosmarinus officinalis) y orégano (Origanum vulgare)

Se evaluó la fertilidad de un suelo Typic Hapludand representativo de la zona de Río Frío (Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca), donde se ubican pequeños productores de hierbas aromáticas para exportación en fresco. Se determinó el efecto de la ausencia individual en la fertilización de macro y microelementos, sobre el crecimiento, productividad y calidad del romero y orégano. A partir de la solución de Hoagland y Arnon No. 2, se prepararon 11 soluciones carentes de un elemento en particular: N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, B, Cu, Zn y Mn.We assessed the fertility of a Typical Hapludand soil representative of the Rio Frio area (Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca), where small producers of fresh herbs for export are located. We determined the effect of the individual absence of macro-and micro-fertilization on growth, productivity and quality of rosemary and oregano. Evaluación del desempeño humano en las empresas de Matagalpa en el primer semestre del año 2005

La evaluación del desempeño, es una actividad esencial dentro de la administración de recursos humanos. Su objetivo es proporcionar una descripción precisa del desempeño del empleado durante el pasado o del potencial de su desempeño a futuro. Para hacer esto se establecen estándares de desempeño. Estos estándares se basan en los elementos relacionados con el puesto que determinan más de lleno el desempeño adecuado .Cuando es posible, el desempeño se mide en forma directa y objetiva. Esto se realiza a partir de técnicas de evaluación disponibles, los especialistas en personal seleccionan los métodos que miden de modo más efectivo el desempeño, comparándolo con los estándares establecidos previamente. El proceso de evaluación es diseñado por el departamento de personal, y a menudo la participación de otras áreas de la organización es baja. Un requisito necesario del proceso de evaluación, es suministrar retroalimentación al empleado durante una entrevista especial. Ésta se propone equilibrar las áreas de desempeño positivo con las áreas en que el desempeño es deficiente, para que el empleado adquiera una perspectiva realista del resultado de sus esfuerzos. Probablemente, el desafió más significativo que surge de las evaluaciones del desempeño es la retroalimentación que se proporciona respecto a la labor del departamento de persona
