A new self-organizing neural gas model based on Bregman divergences

    Get PDF
In this paper, a new self-organizing neural gas model that we call Growing Hierarchical Bregman Neural Gas (GHBNG) has been proposed. Our proposal is based on the Growing Hierarchical Neural Gas (GHNG) in which Bregman divergences are incorporated in order to compute the winning neuron. This model has been applied to anomaly detection in video sequences together with a Faster R-CNN as an object detector module. Experimental results not only confirm the effectiveness of the GHBNG for the detection of anomalous object in video sequences but also its selforganization capabilities.Universidad de Málaga. TP30 210.

    Get PDF

Color Space Selection for Self-Organizing Map Based Foreground Detection in Video Sequences

    Get PDF
The selection of the best color space is a fundamental task in detecting foreground objects on scenes. In many situations, especially on dynamic backgrounds, neither grayscale nor RGB color spaces represent the best solution to detect foreground objects. Other standard color spaces, such as YCbCr or HSV, have been proposed for background modeling in the literature; although the best results have been achieved using diverse color spaces according to the application, scene, algorithm, etc. In this work, a color space and color component weighting selection process is proposed to detect foreground objects in video sequences using self-organizing maps. Experimental results are also provided using well known benchmark videos.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Influence of the Lubrication Conditions on the Surface Finish of Turned Aeronautical Aluminium Alloys. A preliminary Study

Nowadays, one of the main objectives that affects the development of any new product is the respect for the environment. Until the late 80's, the development and manufacture of the most of the product were aimed to achieve maximum quality in time and costs with environmental issues relegated to secondary importance. On the other hand, in the 90's, the pressure from factors such as markets, financial and legislative factors, led to environmental considerations being taken into account. In this context, the current aeronautical industry strategies are based on the search for economic, environmental and energy efficiency considerations for all the processes involved in the aircraft manufacturing

Insights into the room temperature magnetism of ZnO/Co3O4 mixtures

    Get PDF
The origin of room temperature (RT) ferromagneticlike behavior in ZnO-based diluted magnetic semiconductors is still an unclear topic. The present work concentrates on the appearance of RT magnetic moments in just mixed ZnO/Co3O4 mixtures without thermal treatment. In this study, it is shown that the magnetism seems to be related to surface reduction of the Co3O4 nanoparticles, in which, an antiferromagnetic Co3O4 nanoparticle (core) is surrounded by a CoO-like shell. This singular superficial magnetism has also been found in other mixtures with semiconductors such as TiO2 and insulators such as Al2O3

The present paper analyses the effect of self-efficacy in sports injury and to what extent such effect is mediated by coping strategies to competitive situations shown by athletes. 245 sportspeople were assessed regarding the number of injuries suffered the last 12 months, General selfefficacy and coping strategies. regression analysis proved that two coping strategies, emotional calming and risk behavior, predicted the suffering of less or more injuries, respectively. A path analysis showed that self-efficacy was not directly related to the number of injuries but indirectly through coping strategies. Unexpectedly, the greater self-efficacy induces both coping strategies oriented to trying new options and risky alternatives (risk behavior) and coping strategies directed to control negative emotions (emotional calming) which would supposedly be related to least risk-taking behaviors, the former increasing and the later decreasing vulnerability to sports injury.O presente estudo analisa o efeito da autoeficacia na lesão esportiva e em que medida este efeito é mediado por estratégias de enfrentamento à situação de concorrência que os atletas apresentam. No primeiro caso a aumentar e no segundo diminuindo a vulnerabilidade a lesão

Combat helmets are designed to protect against ballistic threats and fragments of explosive devices. There are numerous types of helmet comfort foams available. However, pad systems have not been evaluated in combat helmets to understand to what extent they mitigate head accelerations. In this work, different pad systems are studied to analyze the ballistic performance of combat helmets using a Hybrid III dummy equipped with longitudinal accelerometers at the head and a neck simulator. The tests are conducted with 9 mm Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) projectiles according to the performance requirements III-A of the NIJ 0106.01 standard. This experimental methodology allows the evaluation of brain and neck injuries. The thicker bicomponent polyurethane foams and the honeycomb configuration provided the best results in terms of mitigating brain damage due to accelerations applying different criteria (PLA, WSTC, HIC). However, it was concluded that there is no cervical injury or cranial fracture risk for any of the cases studied. The authors acknowledge the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain and the FEDER program under Projects DPI2017-88166-R and PID2020-118946RB-I00 for the financial support of the work.
