as populações estuarinas e conservação.
As
ABSTRACT: Atherina boyeri Risso, 1810 and Atherina presbyter Cuvier, 1829,
although distinct in meristic and morphometric characters, are sometimes
difficult to differentiate, especially when small or injured fish are involved. They
also exhibit distinct ecology and behaviour: while A. presbyter is typically
marine, entering the more saline sections of estuaries, A. boyeri may complete
its life cycle in fresh or brackish waters, although its behaviour in estuaries is
unknown. Little is known on the biology of both species in Portugal, including
the estuarine populations, and basic information needed for their conservation
is missing.
A sampling campaign was carried out in Canal de Mira (one of the
main arms of Ria de Aveiro, Portugal) every three months (summer 2007 –
spring 2008), and biometric features such as total length, GSI, and condition
factors were determined. To avoid misidentifications, specimens were
diagnosed with the aid of morphological and molecular characters. Ria de
Aveiro was chosen as a case study to determine the influence of habitat,
namely the salinity gradient, in the distribution and ecology of the sand smelts
assemblage. We observed that A. presbyter occurred mostly downstream,
while A. boyeri preferred the upper reaches of the estuary and both species cooccurred
in the intermediate zones (salinity 5.5 to 22), with A. presbyter being
dominant in this zone. Reproduction of Canal de Mira assemblage occurred
during spring and summer, and juveniles only reproduced in the next
reproductive season after their birth. We also concluded that there is a large
overlap in scale counts between the two species, so a complementarity
between morphological and genetic criteria is here proposed
autores.Peri-implant disease is an inflammatory process that occurs in the tissues around the
implant(s). This process can be divided into two stages: the first is the peri-implant
mucositis, which, if untreated, progresses to the second stage: peri-implantitis.
This study aims to understand the etiology of peri-implantitis in order to perform a
better diagnosis and following correct clinical decisions. Risk factos and prevalence will
also be analyzed.
For this purpose, it was made a bibliographic search in the PubMed database. The
research was done in the languages of: Portuguese, English and Spanish. Only human
studies were considered.
The etiology of peri-implantitis is multifactorial, complex and controversial. The
presence of plaque is the main cause of peri-implant diseases, although there are other
factos that are associated with increased risk.
Further studies are needed to better understand this subject and to seek consensus
among authors
Setting assumptions : different ways to measure the funding position of a UK pension scheme
This is a very simplistic definition when compared to the United Kingdom's Pension funds, which are complex and very specific financial products.
This report is a result of an internship at the Willis Towers Watson Lisbon office, in the area of retirement, where the main scope of the work was in UK pension schemes' Actuarial Valuations.
The main goal of this project is to study the different ways of measuring the funding position of a pension scheme, regarding the setting of assumptions. This will result in a practical demonstration of the impact of the defined assumptions on the results obtained. In order to do that, two pension schemes will be used, from companies that have been the focus of the internship.
For academic purposes, this internship report contributes to a better understanding on measuring the funding position of pension schemes, and also on the application of knowledge obtained in the master's, for example on survival models, life annuities, financial markets and other subjects/topics.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Worten's mobile application creation: adding customer value or a pressured digital response?
The Aim of this thesis is to understand if the Creation of Worten's APP will add value to the customer or if it is a pressured digital response.
Nowadays, it is normal for most companies to start responding to the new segment of customers - the Digital Customers. To do so, many corporations build strategic methods to answer to new trends and businesses. Nevertheless, according to a Mckinsey&Company' research although 90% of the companies are already developing responses to the digital disruption, only 16% are actually fully incorporating those strategies at a scale. (Bughin & Zeebroeck, 2017)
With this it, it was selected the major ideas designed by the Worten for the content of the APP and assessed what type of contents did the customer value the most. It was developed a national questioner to analyze the customer’ perspective and create forms of implementation of their ideas.
Regarding the results, it could be concluded that, there is still a long way to run since the most whished content for the APP was related with Products and not Services. However, "Track&Trace" of services was selected as the most wanted content obtaining the highest percentage of votes, 27,3%, with groups of age under 34 years old (understanding that these groups represent the digital consumer in general).
The research provided clear ideas of the customer needs and suggestions on how to apply that type of content, giving to the company, various options of implementation.O objetivo desta Tese passa pela análise da Criação da APP da Worten e respetiva verificação de se é uma estratégia que adicionará valor para o cliente ou uma resposta de pressão digital.
do processo artístico.
The developments in art led to the need for new thinking on aesthetic approaches. If initially the focus of the study was the subject, with Marcel Duchamp and all the conceptual and minimalist movements, the concept has become the key element of the artistic process. In the 21st Century, with contemporary art focused on the relationship between art and technology and the development of works to achieve greater interaction between subject and object, it is necessary to develop new ideas that fit a new model of public: participation, involvement, action.
Therefore, this article explores the possibility of an Aesthetics of the Individual, or Aesthetics of the Subject, developed from existing concepts that explore the same theme
This article focuses on issues that relate the influences and antecedents of Contemporary Art. In particular analyzes the case of Internet art, from past experience which aroused interest in the artistic use of media, as the work of Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz and Roy Ascott
Internet Art and the University: how to introduce the relation between Art, Science and Technology to master students
The relation between art, science and technology is a reality of contemporary art specially
acknowledge when we contact with current artistic production. Nevertheless,
how should it be taught in a university context? This paper will address some issues
regarding the teaching of Internet art in a theoretical perspective under the context of
Art, Science and Technology class of Master degree in Contemporary Artistic Creation
at University of Aveiro.
The students’ participation, and their theoretical reflections around the subject of
Internet art, reinforces the necessity to clarify those subjects, which are imminently
contemporary, contextualized in a specific reality such as the art, science and technology.
It can also be perceived as a very challenging instrument to pose some of the main
questions of Internet art and explore some of the possible answers.
Through this theoretical approach of teaching net art, and with the reflections from
the students, this paper will state that the contemporary artistic education can be an
important tool to explore contemporary art
Multi Agent Functional Bone Simulation: A theoretical study
In 200 A.D., Galen described bones as the fundamental system of body
protection. Bones are highly dynamic, in constant renovation to preserve their
properties. Understanding bone metabolism has become a relevant area of
research. The most common bone disease is osteoporosis and is characterized by
low bone mass and microarchitecture disturbances. The major consequence of
osteoporosis are fragility fractures (fractures that occur with low impact trauma).
Osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures each year worldwide.
Several therapies are effective in preventing fractures and treating osteoporosis.
However, there is an enormous difficulty in predicting osteoporosis related
fractures and understanding who needs these therapies in order to prevent bone
loss. In practical clinic, it becomes essential to have a model describing the bone
remodeling process and the impact of the different cellular mediators in the bone
metabolism.
Although some mathematical models already describe the variation of the
bone cells, they do it in a continuous and deterministic way with few cellular
mediators. Many studies and experimental results have shown that cellular
metabolism and birth-and-death processes in population dynamics are
stochastic. Furthermore, mathematical models are reliable on describing a macro
level, whereas multiagent simulation models are used to link micro and macro
perspectives.
In this thesis we have developed a multiagent stochastic model that
simulates a timeline remodeling cycle. Our simulator reproduces the homeostatic
process of remodeling with the different phases of it, which is time consistent
with the real biological process. Our model includes the most relevant cellular
mediators in the bone metabolism. Our model demonstrated to have great
sensibility to predict bone loss caused by some chronic diseases such hyper and
hypoparathyroidism, and excess of glucocorticoids, and also to the most known
causes of osteoporosis: estrogen or vitamin D deficiency. Overall, this model
provides a deeper understanding about bone metabolism and the pathologies
associated with it.Em 200 A.D, Galen descreveu os ossos como o sistema fundamental de
proteção do corpo.
A doença óssea
conectar ambas as perspetivas, micro e macro.
