    Get PDF
Recognizing the importance of the international advancements on person-centered practice (PCP) with positive implementation outcomes at the varied levels of healthcare systems, this scoping review will examine the PCP in Portuguese healthcare services. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidance for scoping reviews will be followed. The Population (P) Concept (C) Context (C) mnemonic will scaffold research questions, the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the searching strategy. Literature reporting on person-centeredness domains at the macro-, meso-, and micro levels applied to Portuguese healthcare services in Portuguese and English will be considered for inclusion. Accordingly, MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, LILACS, SCIELO, Open Access Scientific Repository of Portugal (RCAAP), and Open gray will be searched. The literature will be screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers, first by title and abstract and subsequently by full text. A data extraction matrix designed to answer the research questions will be used for the included literature. The charted data will be thematically analyzed and presented graphically, with a narrative description of the literature characteristics. The results are expected to inform healthcare stakeholders at varying levels about the PCP domains where further improvements might be required in order to raise the quality of care to the international gold standards.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Cathorops arenatus (Siluriformes: Ariidae) inhabits shallow waters and is abundant in the North coast of Brazil. Despite its local use and susceptibility to overexploitation and pollution, basic biological information is lacking to shape conservation actions. Thus, information on the feeding of C. arenatus in the North coast of Brazil are provided herein. Specimens were sampled in one expedition during the rainy season and in another in the dry season, using horizontal trawling along a 10-m line. Food contents of 68 specimens were analyzed. They exhibited 13 food items and fed mainly on Haparcticoida copepods and plant fragments. A high number of specimens exhibited sediment in their digestive tract. No differences in the diet composition between hydrological seasons were observed. C. arenatus exhibit a benthivorous feeding habit in the Amazonian estuary, which agrees with other species of the genus, and no temporal variation in its diet was found, which may be related to the community dynamics of its main prey. Keywords: Amazon estuary, Ariidae, trophic ecology.

Background: Anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) are significantly affected by age and may represent restrictions on functional independence. Previous studies in young adults have already highlighted that changing postural stability (i.e., seated vs. upright posture) affects the motor planning and APAs. In frail older adults (FOAs), the effect of these different conditions of postural stability have not yet been established, and the present study aimed to disentangle this issue. Methods: Participants executed an arm-pointing task to reach a diode immediately after it turned on, under different conditions of stability (seated with and without foot support and in an upright posture). A kinematic profile of the index finger and postural electromyographic data were registered in their dominant-side leg muscles: Tibialis anterior, soleus, rectus femoris, and semitendinosus. Results: The main finding of this study was that the adopted posture and body stabilization in FOAs did not reflect differences in APAs or kinematic features. In addition, they did not present an optimal APA, since postural muscles are recruited simultaneously with the deltoid. Conclusion: Thus, FOAs seem to use a single non-optimal motor plan to assist with task performance and counterbalance perturbation forces in which they present similar APAs and do not modify their kinematics features under different equilibrium constraints

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with significant motor disabilities and cognitive decline. Importantly, the imbalance of oxidative stress is related to PD physiopathology and progression. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of grape juice consumption associated with an aquatic exercise protocol on oxidative stress parameters and cognitive function in individuals with PD. The participants were randomized into two groups: grape juice group (GJG) and control group (CG) and were submitted to 4 weeks of an aquatic intervention (twice a week, approximately 60 minutes/session). The GJG also consumed 400 ml of grape juice per day (integral and conventional) during this period. Cognitive function was assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCa) questionnaire. For the analysis of oxidative stress markers, specifically lipid oxidative damage (TBARS), proteins (Carbonil), acid uric and the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase), blood collection were done before and after intervention. No changes were observed in cognitive function after intervention in both groups. Regarding biomarkers, a reduction of antioxidant enzymes, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and uric acid was observed in both groups. However, only the GJG showed a significant reduction on protein oxidation levels after intervention. In conclusion, the consumption of grape juice associated with an aquatic exercise protocol might be consider an effective alternative to reduce the oxidative damage in PD, reinforcing the importance of this intervention in promoting beneficial impact in this population

The aim of this work was to evaluate the nutritional and microbiological quality of ready-to-eat açai, the physical and functional conditions of establishments that market this product and to verify the presence of microorganisms at handlers’ hands and nostrils. Twenty-three establishments in the city of Goiânia–Goiás were evaluated and açaí samples were obtained in two steps: before and after the training of handlers about good manufacturing practices. A decrease in the counts of total coliforms (from 26.08% to 8.7% of samples), coagulase positive staphylococci (from 78.26% to 65.2% of samples) and aerobic mesophiles (from 100% to 73.91% of samples) was observed between steps. The presence of microorganisms at handlers’ hands and nostrils did not present statistical difference between the two steps. According to the applied checklist, six items showed reduced compliance. After the training of handlers, the microbiological contamination of açaí decreased, and the presence of E coli in handlers’ nostrils was no longer observed, which highlights the importance of training about the implementation Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure food sanitary quality.
