    Constructing Dynamic Ad-hoc Emergency Networks using Software-Defined Wireless Mesh Networks

    Natural disasters and other emergency situations have the potential to destroy a whole network infrastructure needed for communication critical to emergency rescue, evacuation, and initial rehabilitation. Hence, the research community has begun to focus attention on rapid network reconstruction in such emergencies; however, research has tried to create or improve emergency response systems using traditional radio and satellite communications, which face high operation costs and frequent disruptions. This thesis proposes a centralized monitoring and control system to reconstruct ad-hoc networks in emergencies by using software-defined wireless mesh networks (SDWMN). The proposed framework utilizes wireless mesh networks and software-defined networking to provide real-time network monitoring services to restore Internet access in a targeted disaster zone. It dispatches mobile devices including unmanned aerial vehicles and self-driving cars to the most efficient location aggregation to recover impaired network connections by using a new GPS position finder (GPS-PF) algorithm. The algorithm is based on density-based spatial clustering that calculates the best position to deploy one of the mobile devices. The proposed system is evaluated using the common open research emulator to demonstrate its efficiency and high accessibility in emergency situations. The results obtained from the evaluation show that the performance of the emergency communication system is improved considerably with the incorporation of the framework

The objective of this study is to rank the constraints of using technology among farmers in India for potato production. In the adoption of potato production technology, the social constraints like lack of contact with extension personnel' had got ranked I. In case of economic constraints, ‘low profit had got ranked I. Most of the suggestion being made because of the expressed opinion of the respondents, observation of the investigator. It may be said protection of crop should be ensured from animals and farmers training programme for increasing potato production farmingstarted, and emphasis must be given to popularize and increase awareness about the production of potato

    Haemorrhage from a surgical wound can be from many potential sources such as injury to vessel, muscle and bone; bleeding disorders; incomplete haemostasis; pseudoaneurysm; and neovascularisation. We report an unusual cause of haemorrhage from the surgical incision in a 9-year-old child. We emphasize that a high index of suspicion is required for early diagnosis, and pseudoaneurysm and neoangiogenesis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue masses resulting from direct, blunt trauma even in children

    Versatile polymer method to dry-flip two-dimensional moir\'e hetero structures for nanoscale surface characterization

    The recent discovery of magic angle twisted bilayer graphene (MATBG), in which two sheets of monolayer graphene are precisely stacked to a specific angle, has opened up a plethora of new opportunities in the field of topology, superconductivity, and other strongly correlated effects. Most conventional ways of preparing twisted bilayer devices require the use of high process temperatures and solvents and are not well-suited for preparing samples which need to be flipped to be compatible with characterization techniques like STM, ARPES, PFM, SThM etc. Here, we demonstrate a very simple polymer-based method using Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), which can be used for making flipped twisted bilayer graphene devices. This allowed us to produce flipped twisted samples without the need of any solvents and with high quality as confirmed by Piezoresponse Force Microscopy. We believe that this dry flip technique can be readily extended to twist 2D materials beyond graphene, especially air-sensitive materials which require operation under inert atmosphere, where often solvents cannot be used

    Evaluation of the Behavior of Spinal Deformities in Tuberculosis of the Spine in Adults

    Study DesignA prospective clinical study.PurposeThe objective of the present study was to evaluate the behavior of spinal deformities in tuberculosis (TB) of the spine during the initial 2 years and to suggest remedial measures.Overview of LiteratureSpinal TB is the most common cause of a kyphotic deformity in many parts of the world. Treatment of the established deformity is difficult, hazardous and has a high complication rate.MethodsWe followed 50 adult patients treated for spinal TB for a minimum of 2 years. Average values of vertebral body height loss (VBL), deformity angle, kyphosis angle, and lumbosacral joint angle at the final follow-up were compared with the values at initial presentation. The relationship between the amount of initial VBL and final kyphotic angle was analyzed.ResultsAverage values of VBL, deformity angle, kyphosis angle, and lumbosacral joint angle at initial presentation were 0.26, 12.51°, 2.26°, and 12.3°, respectively; and the corresponding values at the final follow-up were 0.7, 17.8°, 5.64°, and 10.8°, respectively. The increase was extremely significant for the deformity angle (initial vs. 6th month, p=0.000; 6th month vs. 24th month, p=0.000) and kyphotic angle (initial vs. 6th month, p=0.003; 6th month vs. 24th month, p=0.000) in the thoracic and thoracolumbar regions during the first 2 years of the disease process. The increase in the deformity angle in the lumbar region was significant only in the initial 6 months (p=0.01). We could not find any correlation between the initial VBL and the final kyphotic angle (r=0.302, p>0.05).ConclusionsDifferent regions of the vertebral column respond differently to bony destruction caused by spinal TB. Deformity progression is more significant during the initial 6 months of the disease process, and this may be the best time to take remedial measures to prevent development/progression of the deformity. Kyphotic deformity keeps increasing even after 6 months of antituberculous treatment, and it does not correlate with the initial VBL in adults

    Keratin intermediate filaments (KIFs) protect the epidermis against mechanical force, support strong adhesion, help barrier formation, and regulate growth. The mechanisms by which type I and II keratins contribute to these functions remain incompletely understood. Here, we report that mice lacking all type I or type II keratins display severe barrier defects and fragile skin, leading to perinatal mortality with full penetrance. Comparative proteomics of cornified envelopes (CEs) from prenatal KtyI(-/-) and KtyII(-/-)(K8) mice demonstrates that absence of KIF causes dysregulation of many CE constituents, including downregulation of desmoglein 1. Despite persistence of loricrin expression and upregulation of many Nrf2 targets, including CE components Sprr2d and Sprr2h, extensive barrier defects persist, identifying keratins as essential CE scaffolds. Furthermore, we show that KIFs control mitochondrial lipid composition and activity in a cell-intrinsic manner. Therefore, our study explains the complexity of keratinopathies accompanied by barrier disorders by linking keratin scaffolds to mitochondria, adhesion, and CE formation
