Efficacy and safety of switching to abacavir/lamivudine (ABC/3TC) plus rilpivirine (RPV) in virologically suppressed HIV-infected patients on HAART.

We analysed the efficacy and safety of switching from a regimen based on nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) or integrase inhibitors (INI) to ABC/3TC + RPV in virologically suppressed HIV-infected patients. This multicentre, retrospective study comprised asymptomatic HIV-infected patients who switched from 2 NRTI + NNRTI or 2 NRTI + INI to ABC/3TC + RPV between February 2013 and December 2013; all had undetectable HIV viral load prior to switching. Efficacy and safety, and changes in lipids and cardiovascular risk (CVR) were analysed at 48 weeks. Of 85 patients (74.1 % men, mean age 49.5 years), 83 (97.6 %) switched from a regimen based on NNRTI (EFV 74, RPV 5, ETV 2, NVP 2), and 45 (53 %) switched from TDF/FTC to ABC/3TC. The main reasons for switching were toxicity (58.8 %) and convenience (29.4 %). At 48 weeks, 78 (91.8 %) patients continued taking the same regimen; efficacy was 88 % by intention to treat, and 96 % by per protocol. Two patients were lost to follow-up and five ceased the new regimen (4 due to adverse effects and 1 virologic failure). Mean CD4 cell counts increased (744 vs. 885 cells/μL; p = 0.0001), and there were mean decreases in fasting total cholesterol (-15.9 mg/dL; p < 0.0001) and LDL-cholesterol (-11.0 mg/dL; p < 0.004), with no changes in HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, total cholesterol:HDL-cholesterol ratio, and CVR. ABC/3TC + RPV is effective and safe in virologically-suppressed patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART). Problemas encontrados en el proceso de traducción del Manual de procedimientos logísticos ACTED Monde problemas lingüísticos en la traducción

El manual de procedimientos logísticos ACTED es un documento especializado que cuenta con 115 páginas. En este documento se pueden apreciar diferentes temas relacionados al campo de la logística. Para la traducción de este manual se realizaron arduas investigaciones que permitieron adquirir nuevos conocimientos sobre palabras y términos utilizados en logística. La traducción de este manual de procedimientos logísticos es importante, ya que será de gran ayuda a personas que estén realizando algún tipo de trabajo relacionado a la logística e incluso a estudiantes que puedan apoyarse en este manual que por primera vez se ha traducido. Por otra parte, esta traducción proporcionará información de gran utilidad a diferentes ONG’S (Organizaciones no gubernamentales) que intervienen en Nicaragua. Gracias a los estudiantes de quinto año de la carrera de Traducción e Interpretación Francesa se realizó la traducción de este manual, a través de este ejercicio se adquirió experiencias a nivel profesional y personal. Además, se desarrollaron las relaciones interpersonales en el colectivo de traducción, se aprendió a trabajar en equipo, a tomar decisiones en conjunto, así como respetar las opiniones de cada uno. Un factor importante de esta tarea fue la constante comunicación que permitió la resolución de problemas y la culminación de esta traducción

Durante el segundo semestre de 2021 ha comenzado la transición a la “nueva normalidad”. Para nosotros, en CETYS Universidad, ha significado adaptarnos al nuevo modelo híbrido que parece ha llegado para quedarse. ¿Qué ha significado para el profesorado y el alumnado migrar del salón de clases a una sala virtual? ¿Qué consecuencias ha traído la intervención tecnológica en los procesos de enseñanza y comunicación? De este tema escribe Alberto Gárate Rivera en su libro "El profesorado frente a la pandemia" (Octaedro, 2020), de donde compartimos el texto introductorio; así también Carlos González Pala-cios y Liliana López León, en “La responsabilidad de humanizar la mediación tecnológica”, capítulo incluido en el libro "Universidad y pandemia" (CETYS Universidad, 2021). La sección de Umbrales continúa con la reflexión de las psicólogas Elia Paulina González y Alma Belén Minguela, “Perspectiva de género en la psicoterapia”, quienes forman parte de Mind it!, en donde brindan servicios de salud mental y perspectiva de género en los trabajos, y concientizan sobre la violencia de género y la psicoterapia feminista. La artista visual invitada en Reflejos, es Lisbeth Chávez, quien comparte “Retratar la vida cotidiana y el género”, una muestra de tres series fotográficas que documentan y exploran el género, las formas de habitar, la migración y la precariedad. En Ordalías encontrarás uno de los primeros cuentos escritos por Emiliano González, autor mexicano de literatura fantástica que perdimos este año, y a quien, a manera de homenaje, invitamos a leer y buscar su recién reeditado libro "Los sueños de la bella durmiente" (Penguin Random House, 2021), con prólogo de Miguel Lupián, editor de la antología de donde tomamos este cuento. Enseguida encontrarán siete poemas de Manuel Romero, poeta y periodista cultural tijuanense, y cerramos con “Víctor Soto Ferrel: Testigo a la orilla”, un texto de Alfonso René Gutiérrez leído en la ceremonia de reconocimiento al profesor y poeta Víctor Soto, que se llevó a cabo en 2019, en la Casa de la Cultura de Tijuana. Cisplatin resistance involves a metabolic reprogramming through ROS and PGC-1α in NSCLC which can be overcome by OXPHOS inhibition

Background: Platinum-based chemotherapy remains the standard of care for most lung cancer cases. However chemoresistance is often developed during the treatment, limiting clinical utility of this drug. Recently, the ability of tumor cells to adapt their metabolism has been associated to resistance to therapies. In this study, we first described the metabolic reprogramming of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) in response to cisplatin treatment. Methods: Cisplatin-resistant versions of the A549, H1299, and H460 cell lines were generated by continuous drug exposure. The long-term metabolic changes, as well as, the early response to cisplatin treatment were analyzed in both, parental and cisplatin-resistant cell lines. In addition, four Patient-derived xenograft models treated with cisplatin along with paired pre- and post-treatment biopsies from patients were studied. Furthermore, metabolic targeting of these changes in cell lines was performed downregulating PGC-1α expression through siRNA or using OXPHOS inhibitors (metformin and rotenone). Results: Two out of three cisplatin-resistant cell lines showed a stable increase in mitochondrial function, PGC1-α and mitochondrial mass with reduced glycolisis, that did not affect the cell cycle. This phenomenon was confirmed in vivo. Post-treatment NSCLC tumors showed an increase in mitochondrial mass, PGC-1α and a decrease in the GAPDH/MT-CO1 ratio. In addition, we demonstrated how a ROS-mediated metabolism reprogramming, involving PGC-1α and increased mitochondrial mass, is induced during short-time cisplatin exposure. Moreover, we tested how cells with increased PGC-1a induced by ZLN005 treatment, showed reduced cisplatin-driven apoptosis. Remarkably, the long-term metabolic changes, as well as the metabolic reprogramming during short-time cisplatin exposure can be exploited as an Achilles’ heel of NSCLC cells, as demonstrated by the increased sensitivity to PGC-1α interference or OXPHOS inhibition using metformin or rotenone. Conclusion: These results describe a new cisplatin resistance mechanism in NSCLC based on a metabolic reprogramming that is therapeutically exploitable through PGC-1α downregulation or OXPHOS inhibitors.Work in the authors’ laboratories is supported by ‘‘Instituto de Salud Carlos III’’ PI13/01806 and PIE14/0064 to M.P. Activity-Oriented Antiedema Proprioceptive Therapy (TAPA) for Shoulder Mobility Improvement in Women with Upper Limb Lymphedema Secondary to Breast Cancer: A Multicenter Controlled Clinical Trial

Lymphedema, secondary to breast cancer (BCRL), is the abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the interstitium caused by a malfunction of the lymphatic system. It causes swelling, deficiencies in upper limb functions and structures, sensory pain and emotional alterations, which have a chronic course and affect the upper limb’s functionality. This study aims to verify the efficacy and efficiency in the upper limb´s functionality of a protocolized experimental approach based on occupational therapy, TAPA (activity-oriented proprioceptive antiedema therapy), in the rehabilitation of BCRL in stages I and II, comparing it with the conservative treatment considered as the standard, complex decongestive therapy (CDT), through a multicenter randomized clinical trial.The study has been financed in the call for competitive competition of research and innovation projects in the field of Primary Care, Regional Hospitals and High Resolution Hospital Centers of the Public Health System of Andalusia for the year 2021, of the Andalusian Public Foundation Progress and Health, according to the definitive list of funded projects, published on 23 December 2021, with EXP. Impact of Activity-Oriented Propioceptive Antiedema Therapy on the Health-Related Quality of Life of Women with Upper-Limb Lymphedema Secondary to Breast Cancer—A Randomized Clinical Trial

Alterations derived from lymphedema in the upper-limb secondary to breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) decrease the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), but there is limited evidence of the impact of the different interventions on it. The aim of this research was to compare the effect of conventional treatment with another treatment based on Activity-Oriented Antiedema Proprioceptive Therapy (TAPA) on HRQoL in women diagnosed with BCRL.This research was funded by the Call for research and innovation projects in the field of primary care, regional hospitals and high-resolution hospital centres of the Public Health System of Andalusia in 2021 by the Progreso y Salud Foundation, of the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, with EXP. El texto Experiencias docentes en tiempo de pandemia está estructurado en dos partes: 1. Discusiones necesarias sobre la educación superior en tiempo de pandemia. 2. Prácticas docentes en época de pandemia expresadas a través del relato. En la primera parte, se presenta un conjunto de nueve artículos que buscan fundamentar teóricamente la situación actual de la educación conforme a las circunstancias que estamos viviendo, de manera que: Robert Fernando Bolaños Vivas, en su artículo La filosofía de la Educación ante la crisis sanitaria COVID-19, una oportunidad de humanización, considera que la crisis sanitaria de la COVID-19 ha puesto de manifesto la profunda crisis humana que pone a prueba la calidad de los seres humanos, razón por la cual el autor intenta demostrar la deficiente respuesta antropológica a las complejas exigencias y complejidades de la crisis sanitaria provocada por la COVID- 19, en este sentido, en el artículo reflexiona sobre la dimensión de la alteridad, la historicidad y la temporalidad humana
