Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceSince the task of deciding whether a research work is published or not is carried out by journal editors, the composition and attributes of editorial board members are relevant variables to be investigated. In particular, when trying to understand if the scientific knowledge shared with the world is impacted by other factors instead of being judged solely by the quality and content of the research. Hence, this research analyses the composition of editorial teams from 27 journals in three main areas – Economics & Econometrics, Finance, and Business & International Management - and their influence on the efficiency of such journals. After collecting the data required to perform this study, the composition and characteristics of editorial board members, as well as an analysis aiming to identify patterns between editors’ characteristics and the context and impact of scientific publication journals were carried out. Some of the data collected about the editors and journals for the analyses were the gender, geography, affiliated institution, publisher’s categories, position in those categories, H-index, and SCImago Journal Rank. The gathered data was then used to build a Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) model to analyze journals’ efficiency, as input. The SFA allows us to develop a multi-input single-output scenario. Primary findings suggest that the performance of research journals’ is influenced by the size of the editorial board, gender, and location but not by the performance of each editor as an individual. There is an overwhelming presence of US-based, male, and academic editors among the editorial boards as well as US institutions represented by scholars. The results show that economics and finance journals tend to be more efficient than business journals and that the research industry, despite having a small margin to improve, appears to be efficient

There is an urgent need to provide healthcare professionals and midwives with validated tools as to improve fertility adjustment and promote well-being of couples with infertility. The purpose of this study was to test validity of the Fertility Adjustment Scale among people undergoing assisted reproductive techniques. A cross-sectional and methodological study was conducted, and a total of 104 Portuguese adults undergoing fertility treatment were recruited through fertility-related websites. The Fertility Adjustment Scale was administered along with the Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire and the Resilience Scale for adults as a measure of concurrent validity. Scores revealed the sample’s lack of adjustment to fertility. A significant correlation with measures of resilience provided evidence of convergent validity. There was a significant association of fertility adjustment with time of consultation and the cause of infertility. A Fertility Adjustment Scale with six items is a reliable tool that offers early recognition of patients’ difficulties in adaptation to fertility problems during assisted reproductive techniques, which could be beneficial in not only an early recognition of healthcare intervention but of a more individualized approach to such patients.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Poderá ainda descobrir a realidade destas e de outras atividades planeadas, elaboradas e implementadas no decorrer do seu processo de especializaçãoThis report comes from the testimony of the trainee in the process of transition from a general to a specialized care for children. This process occurred not only due to the experiences offered by her career as a nurse, but also from learning acquired in the course of the Internship Master's degree in Nursing Nature Professional Specialisation in Child Health Nursing and Pediatrics, sponsored by the Institute of Health Sciences Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon. The report presents not only theoretical and conceptual foundations, but also a report concerning the way the trainee assumed the central problematic of child maltreatment in different contexts of action, displayed in three modules. Thus, were developed by the intervener, actions with the assumed main goal: "Developing skills in specialist nursing care for children at risk and / or danger" The first module, took place at Casa da Encosta in Cascais and at a Community Care Unit in Damaia, and stood the preparation of the "Script Supervisor of Domiciliary Visit" and planning the pioneer project "Adolescent Mothers" as interventions at the primary and secondary level in child maltreatment prevention. In Pediatric Service of Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca E.P.E., second module, was structured a “Risk Sheet ", as a contribution to secondary and tertiary level prevention, in situations of admitted minors at risk or danger of abuse. And in the Intensive and Special Care Neonatal Unit of the same hospital, third module, was conducted a secondary prevention level through the dissemination and public awareness of the International Day of Prematurity and elaboration of the "Manual of Support and Community Resources". Therefore, the author tried to contribute to early intervention in family by promoting protective factors for a healthy child development, through risk and child vulnerability limitation of violence. The reader may follow the route of the trainee in search of the quality in caring for the child and family in contexts of risk and/or danger. You can also discover the reality of activities planned, developed and implemented during the process of specialization

Research about spirituality has grown widely in the past decades and the interest in health care is also evident in Portugal. This literature review aims to identify and to characterize Portuguese theses, dissertations, and papers about spirituality in health, and to provide a systematic overview of the knowledge concerning this subject. The search was conducted in February 2017 and updated in January 2018. Four independent reviewers screened and analyzed all citations, and a total of 76 results were included. Publications started in 2002 and include master degree dissertations (n = 37), scientific papers (n = 31), and PhD theses (n = 8). Papers were published in 24 national and international journals. Most papers were psychology- and nursing-related and had a quantitative design (n = 55). Samples were mostly composed of patients living with a chronic disease (n = 20) or elderly (n = 11). The Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire (SWBQ) was the most used tool. A multidisciplinary approach is regarded as foundational in implementing spirituality in the provision of health care and the results underline the interest on this topic from other disciplines rather than nursing. Further studies must provide a deeper understanding of spirituality in children, adolescents or families’ perspective bringing new insights to advanced health practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This report is divided into two parts which are interrelated. In the first part of this report is presented an investigation carried out, on the Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) in the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education context, in order to understand if the level of cognitive demand of questions used in class is appropriate for the level of cognitive development of students. There were two case studies that showed evidence that, in most areas / subjects the level of cognitive demand is lower in questions from the evaluation sheets than in questions from development documents; in each Cycle of Basic Education, there are areas / subjects; that are highlighted by the too low or too high level of cognitive demand of questions; and there are scientific areas that decreases the level of cognitive demand of questions from the 1st to the 2nd Cycle. In the second part of this report are identified and characterized the two schools where was performed the PES. There are also presented teaching-learning experiences developed during the PES, selected based on is relevance. These teaching-learning experiences will be presented following a portfolio logic, associated with his critical and grounded reflection. In this reflection the choices and the criteria used will be justified, as well as the critical analysis of its implementation and its main strengths

The spiritual journey of infertile couples: discussing the opportunity for spiritual care

    Get PDF
Infertility is a worldwide public health issue that exerts an in-depth impact on couples, families, communities and the individual. This reproductive health condition, along with fertility treatments, often forces couples to question their purpose and meaning in life, and to begin a spiritual journey. Nursing and midwifery literature describes the care of those living with infertility, but often lacks a clear approach of the spiritual dimension, and diagnosis and interventions may not be effectively addressed. In this paper, we present a discussion about spirituality and the assessment of spiritual needs such as hope, beliefs, meaning and satisfaction in life. In addition, spiritual needs are defined, for both nurses and midwives, and spiritual interventions are proposed for promoting couples’ resilience and spiritual well-being. Spirituality should be considered from the beginning to the end of life. It is necessary to translate this into the development and implementation of both specific policies regarding a spiritual approach and advanced education and training programs for nurses and midwives who care for infertile couples.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
