This master’s degree essay intends to demonstrate the relevance of the “Electra” theatre presentation (2010), form Olga Roriz, in a context of the modern rewriting and appropriation of classical myths and their millennial tradition. It is both interesting and relevant to see how a choreographer known by the strength and avant-garde approach of her work within the contemporary dance sees this Greek mythological character. On the light of this assumption, this essay crosses the concept of contemporary dance opposed to classical dance, going through the character of Electra and its complex relation with humanity. Another approach questions the role of women and the issue of gender throughout time, both in society and in the arts as well as the importance of the classical myth to psychoanalysis comparing Electra with the complex bearing her name. Of great importance is also the analysis of this myth’s avatars nowadays thus finding in the choreography of Olga Roriz a world of meanings deriving from social and axiological roles imputed by the artist and the different choreographic options in order to adapt the classical Electra to a contemporary performance. Lastly, the essay assesses the idiosyncrasy of Roriz’s Electra

Solar photovoltaic systems are an increasing option for electricity production, since they produce electrical energy from a clean renewable energy resource, and over the years, as a result of the research, their efficiency has been increasing. For the interface between the dc photovoltaic solar array and the ac electrical grid is necessary the use of an inverter (dc-ac converter), which should be optimized to extract the maximum power from the photovoltaic solar array. In this paper is presented a solution based on a current-source inverter (CSI) using continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC). All the power circuits and respective control systems are described in detail along the paper and were tested and validated performing computer simulations. The paper shows the simulation results and are drawn several conclusions.FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within scope of the project: PEst- UID/CEC/00319/201

The electric motors’ test benches are greatly used by electric motors manufacturers and drive system designers. In this paper it is described the conversion process of an older manually controlled test bench, in an automatic digitally controlled one with integrated data acquisition system. The renewed test bench is based in a two quadrant eddy current electromagnetic brake, in which the manual torque controller and analog indicator have been replaced by an automatic digital controller, by which is possible to predefine a torque profile for the test. With the data acquisition system it is possible the acquisition and recording of speed, torque and internal temperature on the brake. Special focus is given to the power converter used to control the current in the electromagnetic brake and to the torque data acquisition system, namely, the calibration of the load cell.FEDER Funds - Operational Programme for Competitiveness Factors (COMPETE)Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - PTDC/EEA-EEL/104569/2008, MIT-PT/EDAM-SMS/0030/2008

Interstitial nephritis secondary to treatment with pembrolizumab, a rare complication in two patients with lung adenocarcinoma

    Get PDF
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPi) have become nowadays one of the most widely prescribed anticancer treatments. Pembrolizumab is a highly selective monoclonal immunoglobulin approved as a first-line monotherapy treatment in adult patients with untreated advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with programmed cell death 1 (PD-L1) expression greater than 50% and lack of mutations. ICPi can precipitate immune-related adverse events. Data on the incidence and characteristics of nephrotoxicity from ICPi are limited and caused largely from small case series and oncologic studies. Two patients with a diagnosis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, undergoing treatment with pembrolizumab who manifested interstitial nephritis secondary to this treatment, are presented below. The growing use of immunotherapy in the treatment of cancer imposes the physician's attention to possible adverse effects

Asymmetric data acquisition system for an endoscopic PET-US detector

According to current prognosis studies of pancreatic cancer, survival rate nowadays is still as low as 6% mainly due to late detections. Taking into account the location of the disease within the body and making use of the level of miniaturization in radiation detectors that can be achieved at the present time, EndoTOFPET-US collaboration aims at the development of a multimodal imaging technique for endoscopic pancreas exams that combines the benefits of high resolution metabolic information from time-of- flight (TOF) positron emission tomography (PET) with anatomical information from ultrasound (US). A system with such capabilities calls for an application-specific high-performance data acquisition system (DAQ) able to control and readout data from different detectors. The system is composed of two novel detectors: a PET head extension for a commercial US endoscope placed internally close to the region-of-interest (ROI) and a PET plate placed over the patient's abdomen in coincidence with the PET head. These two detectors will send asymmetric data streams that need to be handled by the DAQ system. The approach chosen to cope with these needs goes through the implementation of a DAQ capable of performing multi-level triggering and which is distributed across two different on-detector electronics and the off-detector electronics placed inside the reconstruction workstation. This manuscript provides an overview on the design of this innovative DAQ system and, based on results obtained by means of final prototypes of the two detectors and DAQ, we conclude that a distributed multi-level triggering DAQ system is suitable for endoscopic PET detectors and it shows potential for its application in different scenarios with asymmetric sources of data

In this report we present measurements performed on the full custom ASIC TOFFEE, designed to pre-amplify and discriminate signals of Ultra Fast Silicon Detectors. The ASIC has been characterized in laboratory with custom test boards, and with infrared laser light hitting the sensor emulating a minimum ionizing particle signal. Laser measurements show that a jitter term better than 50 (40) ps is achievable with a 10 (12) fC input charge. We also present some preliminary results on the TOFFEE performances, as obtained during recent beam tests with a 180 GeV/c pion beam, on the SPS-H8 beam line at CERN.Peer Reviewe
