Isoenzymatic genotyping of Staphylococcus aureus from dairy cattle and human clinical environments reveal evolutionary divergences

Background: The genetic variability of 610 S. aureus isolates from the hands of professional dentists (A), dental clinic environment air (B), bovine milk from cows with and without mastitis (C), an insufflator for milking equipment (D) and milking environment air (E) was studied by isoenzyme genotyping and genetic and cluster analysis.Results: Monoclonal and polyclonal patterns of S. aureus were detected in every bacterial population; however, isolates belonging to the same strain were not found among the populations, suggesting the genetic heterogeneity and the intrapopulation spread of strains. Genetic relationship analysis revealed the co-existence of highly related strains at low frequency among populations. Conclusion: The data suggest that some strains can adapt and colonize new epidemiologically unrelated habitats. Consequently, the occurrence of an epidemiological genotypic identity can assume a dynamic character (spread to new habitats), however infrequently. A tendency of microevolutionary and genetic divergences among populations of S. aureus from human sources (AB) and bovine milk (DE), and especially the mammary quarter (C), is also suggested. This research can contribute to the knowledge on the distribution and dissemination of strains and the implementation of control measures and eradication of S. aureus in important dental clinic environments, as well as animal environments and dairy production

Provisão para créditos de liquidação duvidosa e suavização de resultados dos bancos brasileiros

The objective of this monography was to analyze if there is result management by publicly traded banks in Brazil, looking what is the relationship between the provision for doubtful accounts (PCLD) and the macroeconomic indicators, PIB and SELIC. The rules that establish what constitutes the provision leave the possibility of using discretionary margin (estimated unregulated value), for the constitution of the PCLD, therefore estimating these amounts is intended to bring benefits to the institution that reports the accounting information. The sample consisted of 22 publicly traded banks, which trade their stocks in B3, financial institutions were analyzed during the period from 2011 to 2018, the robust “pooled” regression model was estimated, with a total of 175 observations. The results statistical significance at the 5% level for the growth loans, which represents the increase in the loan portfolio, and loans representing the volume of the loan portfolio, in relation to the dependent variable PCLD, were statistically significant at the 5% level, the SELIC also presented influence on the constitution of the provision, and the reduction in the basic interest rate also reduces the PCLD's levelsEste trabalho teve como objetivo geral analisar se há gerenciamento de resultado por parte dos bancos de capital aberto no Brasil, verificando qual a relação da provisão para créditos de liquidação duvidosa (PCLD) com os indicadores macroeconômicos, PIB e SELIC. As regras que estabelecem como constitui a provisão deixam possibilidade de utilização de margem discricionária (valor estimado não regulamentado), para constituição da PCLD, consequentemente estimando esses valores tem o intuito de trazer benefícios para a instituição que reporta a informação contábil. A amostra foi constituída por 22 bancos de capital aberto, que negociam suas ações na B3, as instituições financeiras foram analisadas durante o período de 2011 a 2018, foi estimado o modelo de regressão “pooled” robusta, tendo um total de 175 observações. Os resultados significância estatística ao nível de 5% para as variáveis empréstimos crescimento, que representa o aumento da carteira de crédito, e empréstimos que representa o volume da carteira de crédito, em relação a variável dependente PCLD, apresentaram significância estatística ao nível de 5%, a SELIC também apresentou influência sobre a constituição da provisão, sendo que a redução na taxa básica de juros, reduz também os níveis da PCLD

Leishmania amazonensis: Inhibition of 3′-nucleotidase activity by Cu2+ ions

AbstractFree Cu2+ is toxic due to the capacity of free copper ions to catalyze the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can modify the structure and/or function of biomolecules. In addition, non-specific binding to enzymes, which modifies their catalytic activities, can occur. In this work, the mechanisms underlying the ability of copper to inhibit 3′-nucleotidase from Leishmania amazonensis (La3′-nucleotidase) were investigated. To that end, La3′-nucleotidase activity was assayed with CuCl2 in the presence of ascorbate or hydrogen peroxide to discriminate non-specific binding effects from pro-oxidant effects of copper. Copper inhibitory effects were greater at more acidic pH than at alkaline pH. The addition of enzyme substrate, adenosine 3′-monophosphate (3′AMP), prevented the inhibition of enzyme activity by copper. Thiol-containing compounds were able to protect the enzyme activity against inhibition due to copper. The specific copper chelating agent bathocuproine sulphonate (BCS) restored enzyme activity after pre-treatment of the enzyme with copper. La3′-nucleotidase activity was found to be resistant to ROS generated during oxidation reactions of ascorbate and hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by copper. Our results suggest that Cu2+ ions exert their inhibitory effects by binding to specific motifs of the 3′-nucleotidase protein and that the enzyme appears to be extremely resistant to ROS

Contribution to Local Landscape Units definition in OTALEX II

OTALEX II is the Territorial and Environmental Observatory of Alentejo (Portugal) and Extremadura (Spain), co-financed by POCTEP, developed with the cross-border collaboration of several Portuguese and Spanish bodies. It is composed of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) created in 2007, SDI-OTALEX (www.ideotalex.eu), which is an exchange platform for geographic information and Webmapping services among project partners. The integration of environmental indicators such as landscape indicators, for the characterization and monitoring of the Alentejo Extremadura area is one of the most relevant components of the project. This paper reports the achievements in defining Local Landscape Units (LLU) for a pilot area of Central Alentejo – the Pardiela river basin. The methodological approach applied Geographic Information System tools to integrate soils, geomorphology and land cover. The land cover map applies the CORINE Land Cover Legend Level 5 to Central Alentejo at a scale of 1 : 10,000. This map contains variables related to vegetation, hydrology (streams and water bodies) and human settlements (buildings, equipment, roads). The validation of the results obtained for LLU with previously defined Landscape Units and potential vegetation mapping confirm the reliability and replicability of the present methodology for similar territories

A INFLUÊNCIA DOS SISTEMAS DE GESTÃO DE DESEMPENHO SOBRE O COMPROMETIMENTO DOS INDIVÍDUOS NO ATUAL CONTEXTO DAS ORGANIZAÇÕES

Na literatura mais recente da gestão, observa-se o crescente discurso ressaltando a importância das pessoas para os resultados estratégicos da organização. Como conseqüência, as empresas vêm implementando políticas e práticas que visam a elevar o comprometimento e a produtividade de seus empregados. Entre essas ferramentas está o Sistema de Gestão de Desempenho. O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar a influência dos Sistemas de Gestão de Desempenho no comprometimento dos indivíduos, com relação às organizações e às metas estabelecidas. Em um estudo de campo com a utilização de questionários, observou-se, por meio de análise quantitativa, que as variações nos níveis de comprometimento são mais visíveis quando o indivíduo percebe esses sistemas propiciam ganhos para o funcionário, tais como oportunidades de crescimento profissional, maior conhecimento da estratégia da organização e maior autonomia de decisão. Os resultados também sugerem que tais práticas levam à formação de um comprometimento normativo (quanto à organização e à meta) e, em menor escala, a um comprometimento afetivo com a organização

Objetiva-se neste artigo, analisar a sentença da Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos (CtIDH) que se debruçou sobre o assunto ao tratar do caso Trabalhadores da Fazenda Brasil Verde vs. Brasil. Tem-se, como pergunta de pesquisa, a seguinte: o que a CtIDH entende como escravidão? Foram adotadas abordagens variadas de pesquisa qualitativa, a partir de revisão bibliográfica disponível sobre o tema. Conclui-se que a escravidão é forma de exploração que rouba a dignidade do trabalhador, muitas vezes mediante o cerceamento da liberdade
