    Design of Intervention Program for Preventing of Alcohol Misuse in University Students

    In the Universidad de Oriente of Santiago de Cuba, recent diagnoses showed there is currently an increase in the rate of young people who consume alcoholic beverages. Therefore, the present research has like General Objective: To design a psychoeducational intervention program to prevent the undue consumption of alcohol in the Student Residence of the University of the East of Santiago de Cuba. Techniques such as Composition, Risk Perception Questionnaire on Alcohol Consumption, Social Skills Questionnaire and Preference Questionnaire for leisure time have used. The main results were that 94% of these young people had a low perception of risk on alcohol consumption and only 15% were able to identify the main negative consequences associated with consumption. 96% had insufficient development of social skills, which is associated with the poor ability to resist the pressure of the group

    Current Approaches and Controversies: Legalization and Non-legalization of Drugs

    When a critical analysis to date has made of, the historical aspects related to the topic of drugs, we could distinguish the existence of contrary positions regarding the possibility of legalizing them or not legalizing them. This dilemma is a very topical and important issue since opting for one position or another has economic, political and social implications that are necessary to keep track of. Therefore, the present study aims to; evaluate the advantages and disadvantages that would imply the legalization and non-legalization of drugs. Scientific journals from five years ago have consulted to date, theses and dissertations on the subject, digital and printed books that appear in libraries. Personal communication has made with researchers in the area of ​​addictions. The main results were that the legalization of drugs is very dangerous for society due to its highly addictive and harmful effects on human beings. Likewise, specialists in addictions affirm that legalization can send the wrong message that consuming marijuana and other illegal drugs does not represent risks, which in turn can generate the wrong perception of safety and promote the promotion of consumption. In conclusion, the legalization would not mean the disappearance of the current drug lords, since prices would fall, but this would have compensated with a higher demand, which would increase the sales-consumption volume

    Study of metals in leached soils of a municipal dumpsite in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico: preliminary results

    The Zapote dumpsite measures 420000 m 2 and is 28 years old; an estimated 2.5 millions tons of waste have accumulated on the site (household waste, clinical waste, commercial waste). The thickness of the waste is 3 to 9 meters. Since operations began, no control regulations have existed on the residues received. The Zapote dumpsite is located within a salt-marsh between a system of channels and river lagoons of brackish water, located in a tropical sedimentary environment in the urban zone of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Recently, the Zapote has been closed and work is presently underway in its rehabilitation since a geo-environmental perspective. The present investigation integrates information of preliminary results of metals (Pb, Ni, Cd, Cu, Mg, Fe and Al) contained in sediments that underlie the Zapote dumpsite. In laboratory research the metals of the sediment were correlated with the metals contained in samples of leachate from the Zapote dumpsite. The concentration of metals Pb, Ni, Cd, Cu, Mg, Fe and Al were analyzed in samples of sediments that underlie the body of the dumpsite in layers of 10 cm, reaching a depth of 1.5 m under the interface waste-soil. The results denote high concentrations of metals in layers that are in contact with waste that decreased until reaching 60 to 80 cm of depth. The proportions of the concentrations of metals studied in the soil are comparable with that leached, until layers of 60 to 80 cm of depth are reached, and are then lost in the deepest layers. The high plastic characteristics of clay layers have stood in the way of metallic contaminants in sub layers of the Zapote dumpsite.     Differences and similarities of stellar populations in LAEs and LBGs at z~3.4-6.8

    Lyman alpha emitters (LAEs) and Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) represent the most common groups of star-forming galaxies at high z, and the differences between their inherent stellar populations (SPs) are a key factor in understanding early galaxy formation and evolution. We have run a set of SP burst-like models for a sample of 1558 sources at 3.4 < z < 6.8 from the Survey for High-z Absorption Red and Dead Sources (SHARDS) over the GOODS-N field. This work focuses on the differences between the three different observational subfamilies of our sample: LAE–LBGs, no-Ly α LBGs, and pure LAEs. Single and double SP synthetic spectra were used to model the spectral energy distributions, adopting a Bayesian information criterion to analyze under which situations a second SP is required. We find that the sources are well modelled using a single SP in ∼79 per cent of the cases. The best models suggest that pure LAEs are typically young low-mass galaxies (⁠t∼26+41−25 Myr; Mstar∼5.6+12.0−5.5×108 M⊙⁠), undergoing one of their first bursts of star formation. On the other hand, no-Ly α LBGs require older SPs (t ∼ 71 ± 12 Myr), and they are substantially more massive (Mstar ∼ 3.5 ± 1.1 × 109 M⊙). LAE–LBGs appear as the subgroup that more frequently needs the addition of a second SP, representing an old and massive galaxy caught in a strong recent star-forming episode. The relative number of sources found from each subfamily at each z supports an evolutionary scenario from pure LAEs and single SP LAE–LBGs to more massive LBGs. Stellar mass functions are also derived, finding an increase of M* with cosmic time and a possible steepening of the low-mass slope from z ∼ 6 to z ∼ 5 with no significant change to z ∼ 4. Additionally, we have derived the SFR–Mstar relation, finding an SFR∝Mβstar behaviour with negligible evolution from z ∼ 4 to z ∼ 6

    La almeja fina Ruditapes decussatus L., 1758 es una especie importante en el sector pesquero gallego, con una producción que se ha situado en 760 t en el año 2000. La escasa información disponible sobre el crecimiento de esta especie establece en cuatro años el tiempo necesario para alcanzar la talla legal de extracción: 40 mm de longitud. En este trabajo se obtiene el mismo crecimiento en 27 meses y se muestra la importancia del sustrato sobre el crecimiento y el índice de condición, así como la incidencia de la infección por Perkinsus sp., que consigue prevalencias (porcentaje de almejas infectadas) de hasta el 100%.The carpet shell clam Ruditapes decussatus L., 1758 is a major species in the fishery of Galicia (northwestern Spain), with a production of 760 t in 2000. Information regarding the growth of this species is scarce, and it was formerly estimated that it took 4 years to achieve the legal size (40 mm length). However, the present paper shows that the same length can be obtained in 27 months.     Standard and Embedded Solitons in Nematic Optical Fibers

    A model for a non-Kerr cylindrical nematic fiber is presented. We use the multiple scales method to show the possibility of constructing different kinds of wavepackets of transverse magnetic (TM) modes propagating through the fiber. This procedure allows us to generate different hierarchies of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) which describe the propagation of optical pulses along the fiber. We go beyond the usual weakly nonlinear limit of a Kerr medium and derive an extended Nonlinear Schrodinger equation (eNLS) with a third order derivative nonlinearity, governing the dynamics for the amplitude of the wavepacket. In this derivation the dispersion, self-focussing and diffraction in the nematic are taken into account. Although the resulting nonlinear PDEPDE may be reduced to the modified Korteweg de Vries equation (mKdV), it also has additional complex solutions which include two-parameter families of bright and dark complex solitons. We show analytically that under certain conditions, the bright solitons are actually double embedded solitons. We explain why these solitons do not radiate at all, even though their wavenumbers are contained in the linear spectrum of the system. Finally, we close the paper by making comments on the advantages as well as the limitations of our approach, and on further generalizations of the model and method presented.Comment: "Physical Review E, in press
