Aristotle as a philosophical artifact in the Renaissance: Leonardo Bruni

Este trabajo tiene por objetivo explicitar el funcionamiento de las biografías filosóficas y su aportación al conocimiento de la recepción de la filosofía antigua (en particular, la aristotélica) durante el Renacimiento. Para ello, se examinará la Vita Aristotelis de Leonardo Bruni bajo la noción de artefacto filosófico. Con ello se busca independizar, con fines metodológicos, el estudio de la biografía de sus relaciones con el género histórico para enfatizar la representación particular del Aristóteles humanista de Bruni y el conocimiento que podría proporcionar sobre la recepción de sus obras.The goal of this paper is to explain the function of philosophical biographies and their contribution to the knowledge of the reception of Ancient Philosophy (in particular, Aristotelian Philosophy) in the Renaissance. In order to achieve this goal, I will examine the Vita Aristotelis written by Leonardo Bruni as a philosophical artifact. El pensamiento complejo de Mary Richmond: algo más que una ventana al pasado

The purpose of this article is to read anew the two works of Mary Richmond, What is Social Case Work? and Social Diagnosis, according to new patterns that seek to analyze the complexity of social life. The complex thought created by the author, in a spontaneous and empirical way, is so rich as to deserve this effort. With this work, we attempt to transmit to readers –professors, professionals and students– the desire to read the classical writers, most especially this author in this case, with a will-power and attention focused on the dialogue to discover what she said but which must be read between the lines and what she did not say, since she did not have the necessary elements of analysis available to transmit it. In spite of the limitations of the knowledge typical of that time, however, we must remember Mary Richmond forever, as professionals of the help relationship and with the gratitude due every person who has given his or her power to help others.El propósito de este artículo es hacer una nueva lectura de las dos obras de Mary Richmond, Caso social individual y Diagnóstico social, a la luz de los nuevos modelos que intentan analizar la complejidad de la vida social. El pensamiento complejo que inauguró la autora, de una forma espontánea y empírica, es de tal riqueza que ha merecido este esfuerzo. Con este trabajo tratamos de transmitir a los lectores –profesores de escuelas, profesionales y alumnos– el deseo de leer a los clásicos, en este caso a ella, con una voluntad y atención puestas en el diálogo para descubrir aquello que dijo pero que hay que leerlo entre líneas; y de aquello que no dijo porque no podía decirlo, ya que no disponía de los elementos de análisis necesarios para poder transmitirlo. Mas, a pesar de las limitaciones del conocimiento propias de la época, Mary Richmond siempre ha de quedar en nuestro recuerdo, como profesionales de la relación de ayuda, con el agradecimiento que se merece toda persona que ha puesto su poder al servicio de los demás

Bayesian inference for fault based software reliability models given software metrics data

We wish to predict the number of faults N and the time to next failure of a piece of software. Software metrics data are used to estimate the prior mean of N via a Poisson regression model. Given failure time data and a some well known fault based models for interfailure times, we show how to sample the relevant posterior distributions via Gibbs sampling using the package Winbugs. Our approach is illustrated with an example

Traducción audiovisual accesible a personas con discapacidad intelectual mediante el uso de subtítulos adaptados

This article tries to explain the current situation in multimedia accessibility to people with intellectual disability that often need to be helped by others in order to understand the information which appears in audiovisual messages like films, TV series, documentaries, news, webpages, etc. I attempt to demonstrate that translators can serve as a bridge towards this content and who present this disability by using a new modality, which we could call “subtitling adapted to people with intellectual disability”.Este artículo pretende dar cuenta de la situación actual en accesibilidad multimedia a personas con discapacidad intelectual que, hoy por hoy, necesitan la ayuda de otros en numerosas ocasiones para entender la información presente en mensajes audiovisuales como es el caso de películas, series de televisión, documentales, noticias, páginas web, etc. Pretendo demostrar que los traductores podemos servir de puente entre este contenido y quienes presentan este tipo de discapacidad mediante el uso de lo que sería una nueva modalidad, a la que podríamos denominar “subtitulación adaptada para personas con discapacidad intelectual”

Historical science and the Royal Academy during the spanish age of enlightenment: The rise of the collective author

El concepto de “autor oculto” permite acercamientos diversos, desde perspectivas que se interrogan sobre la presencia o ausencia de un autor individual en relación con su obra, hasta reflexiones sobre una autoría colectiva que se abre a múltiples modalidades de presencia del autor. Nuestra propuesta se centra en el trabajo de erudición, de crítica y de recuperación de fuentes históricas realizado en España durante el siglo xviii. Clérigos y seglares, intelectuales o simples aficionados, personalidades políticas o meros plumillas, muchos de ellos asumieron el papel de ser autores en la sombra sumándose a un esfuerzo colectivo de regeneración nacional marcado por la pugna entre tradición e innovación. Los nuevos gobernantes lideraron este programa reformista con la colaboración de ciertas instituciones creadas para impulsar el progreso y el bien común, entre ellas las Academias Reales. Destacaremos los proyectos de recopilación de fuentes históricas promovidos en el seno de la Real Academia de la Historia. Our proposal focuses on the erudition work, criticism and retrieval of historical sources performed in the 18th century in Spain. Many clerics and seculars, scholars or amateurs, statesmen or mere advantaged scribblers assumed the role of shadow authors and contributed to a collective effort of national renewal featured by the struggle between tradition and innovation. The new rulers led the reformist agenda program with the collaboration of literates and of certain institutions created to foster progress and common good, among them the Royal Academies. Our work will concentrate on the projects of compilation of historical sources that were promoted within the Royal Academy of History. Company-university collaboration in applying gamification to learning about insurance

Incorporating gamification into training–learning at universities is hampered by a shortage of quality, adapted educational video games. Large companies are leading in the creation of educational video games for their internal training or to enhance their public image and universities can benefit from collaborating. The aim of this research is to evaluate, both objectively and subjectively, the potential of the simulation game BugaMAP (developed by the MAPFRE Foundation) for university teaching about insurance. To this end, we have assessed both the game itself and the experience of using the game as perceived by 142 economics students from various degree plans and courses at the University of Seville during the 2017–2018 academic year. As a methodology, a checklist of gamification components is used for the objective evaluation, and an opinion questionnaire on the game experience is used for the subjective evaluation. Among the results several findings stand out. One is the high satisfaction of the students with the knowledge acquired using fun and social interaction. Another is that the role of the university professors and the company monitors turns out to be very active and necessary during the game-learning sessions. Finally, in addition to the benefits to the university of occasionally available quality games to accelerate student skills training, the company–university collaboration serves as a trial and refinement of innovative tools for game-based learning
