Cooperation on capacitated inventory situations with fixed holding costs
[Abstract] In this paper we analyze a situation in which several firms deal with inventory problems concerning the same type of product. We consider that each firm uses its limited capacity warehouse for storing purposes and that it faces an economic order quantity model where storage costs are irrelevant (and assumed to be zero) and shortages are allowed. In this setting, we show that firms can save costs by placing joint orders and obtain an optimal order policy for the firms. Besides, we identify an associated class of costs games which we show to be concave. Finally, we introduce and study a rule to share the costs among the firms which provides core allocations and can be easily computed.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; MTM2011-23205Galicia. Evaluating the impact of items and cooperation in inventory models with exemptable ordering costs
[Absctract]: In this paper we introduce and analyse, from a game theoretical perspective, several multi-agent or multi-item continuous review inventory models in which the buyers are exempted from ordering costs if the price of their orders is greater than or equal to a certain amount. For all models we obtain the optimal ordering policy. We first analyse a simple model with one firm and one item. Then, we study a model with one firm and several items, for which we design a procedure based on cooperative game theory to evaluate the impact of each item on the total cost. Then, we deal with a model with several firms and one item for each firm, for which we characterise a rule to allocate the total cost among the firms in a coalitionally stable way. Finally, we discuss a model with several firms and several items, for which we characterise a rule to allocate the total cost among the firms in a coalitionally stable way and to evaluate the impact of each item on the cost that would be payable to each firm when using the allocation rule. All the concepts and results of this article are illustrated using data from a case study. This work is part of the R+D+I project grants MTM2017-87197-C3-1-P, MTM2017-87197-C3-2-P, PGC2018-097965-B-I00, PID2021-124030NB-C31, PID2021-124030NB-C33 and PID2022-137211NB-100, that were funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”/EU. doi.org/10.1007/s10479-019-03495-6[Abstract]: We introduce a new model involving TU-games and exogenous structures. Specifically, we consider that each player in a population can choose an element in a strategy set and that, for every possible strategy profile, a TU-game is associated with the population. This is what we call a TU-game with strategies. We propose and characterize the maxmin procedure to map every game with strategies to a TU-game. We also study whether or not the relevant properties of TU-games are transmitted by applying the maxmin procedure. Finally, we examine two relevant classes of TU-games with strategies: airport and simple games with strategies. The authors would like to thank two anonymous referees for their helpful suggestions to improve this article.

Goethite-based carbon foam nanocomposites for concurrently immobilizing arsenic and metals in polluted soils
Although different amendments have been used for the immobilization of metals and metalloids in contaminated soils, in most of them there are still important challenges that need to be faced in order to achieve an optimal result. In this work, a new material based on a carbon foam impregnated with goethite nanoneedles has been developed with the aim of evaluating its effect on the mobility and availability of As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in an industrial soil. For this purpose, leaching, sequential extraction and phytotoxicity studies have been carried out. The results were compared with the same carbon foam without goethite impregnation. When the soil was treated with goethite-based carbon foam nanocomposite, the mobility of metal(loid)s was markedly reduced, with the exception of Zn, which showed moderate immobilization. The presence of acid groups on the surface of the carbon foam, together with a high surface area, led to a strong immobilization of pollutants. Moreover, the modification of the foams using goethite nanoneedles, imply that the novel nanocomposite obtained is effective to remediate simultaneously metal and metalloid-polluted soils, without any relevant effect on soil toxicity. This work was funded by the research projects MCI-20-PID2019-106939 GB-I00 (AEI/Spain, FEDER/EU) and I + D + i PID 2020-113558RB-C43 (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). Overexpression of corticotropin-releasing factor in intestinal mucosal eosinophils is associated with clinical severity in Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) has been identified in intestinal mucosal eosinophils and associated with psychological stress and gut dysfunction. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is commonly characterized by altered intestinal motility, immune activation, and increased gut barrier permeability along with heightened susceptibility to psychosocial stress. Despite intensive research, the role of mucosal eosinophils in stress-associated gut dysfunction remains uncertain. In this study, we evaluated eosinophil activation profile and CRF content in the jejunal mucosa of diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) and healthy controls (HC) by gene/protein expression and transmission electron microscopy. We also explored the association between intestinal eosinophil CRF and chronic stress, and the potential mechanisms underlying the stress response by assessing eosinophil response to neuropeptides. We found that mucosal eosinophils displayed higher degranulation profile in IBS-D as compared to HC, with increased content of CRF in the cytoplasmic granules, which significantly correlated with IBS clinical severity, life stress background and depression. Eosinophils responded to substance P and carbachol by increasing secretory activity and CRF synthesis and release, without promoting pro-inflammatory activity, a profile similar to that found in mucosal eosinophils from IBS-D. Collectively, our results suggest that intestinal mucosal eosinophils are potential contributors to stress-mediated gut dysfunction through CRF production and releas
