Chaos around the superposition of a black-hole and a thin disk

Motivated by the strong astronomical evidences supporting that huge black-holes might inhabit the center of many active galaxies, we have studied the integrability of oblique orbits of test particles around the exact superposition of a black-hole and a thin disk. We have considered the relativistic and the Newtonian limits. Exhaustive numerical analyses were performed, and bounded zones of chaotic behavior were found for both limits. An intrinsic relativistic gravitational effect is detected: the chaoticity of trajectories that do not cross the disk.Comment: Revtex, 13 pages, 3 figure

Automatic segmentation of surface EMG images: Improving the estimation of neuromuscular activity

Surface electromyograms (EMGs) recorded with a couple of electrodes are meant to comprise representative information of the whole muscle activation. Nonetheless, regional variations in neuromuscular activity seem to occur in numerous conditions, from standing to passive muscle stretching. In this study, we show how local activation of skeletal muscles can be automatically tracked from EMGs acquired with a bi-dimensional grid of surface electrodes (a grid of 8 rows and 15 columns was used). Grayscale images were created from simulated and experimental EMGs, filtered and segmented into clusters of activity with the watershed algorithm. The number of electrodes on each cluster and the mean level of neuromuscular activity were used to assess the accuracy of the segmentation of simulated signals. Regardless of the noise level, thickness of fat tissue and acquisition configuration (monopolar or single differential), the segmentation accuracy was above 60%. Accuracy values peaked close to 95% when pixels with intensity below approximately 70% of maximal EMG amplitude in each segmented cluster were excluded. When simulating opposite variations in the activity of two adjacent muscles, watershed segmentation produced clusters of activity consistently centered on each simulated portion of active muscle and with mean amplitude close to the simulated value. Finally, the segmentation algorithm was used to track spatial variations in the activity, within and between medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscles, during isometric plantar flexion contraction and in quiet standing position. In both cases, the regionalization of neuromuscular activity occurred and was consistently identified with the segmentation method

Qualificação profissional em pomar frutícola no município de Urupema, SC

Trabalho apresentado no 31º SEURS - Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul, realizado em Florianópolis, SC, no período de 04 a 07 de agosto de 2013 - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.A mão de obra qualificada nos pomares frutícolas é latente, pois se trata de uma atividade que envolve diversas práticas agrícolas, que exigem conhecimento e prática para sua realização e sucesso. Mesmo com o avanço da educação básica, ainda existe forte necessidade por qualificação adequada que contribua com a formação de mão de obra capaz de acompanhar a evolução tecnológica da fruticultura. Em Urupema, SC sendo uma região produtora de maçã, pêra, mirtilo, entre outras, apresenta demanda de mão de obra qualificada para atuar nos pomares e atender produtores da agricultura familiar e funcionários de empresas agrícolas. Diante deste contexto, o presente projeto teve por objetivo promover a capacitação de produtores rurais nas práticas de manejo e produção de frutas; ampliação de oportunidades de acesso ao mercado de trabalho a estudantes; e proporcionar participação docente em atividades de extensão. O desenvolvimento deste trabalho foi dividido em três etapas: incentivo a alunos estagiários e produtor na leitura de textos sobre o manejo e produção de fruteiras de clima temperado; discussão, demonstração, instrução, execução e acompanhamento ao produtor rural nas práticas de manejo de frutas através dos estudantes, sob orientação do professor responsável; e difusão dos conhecimentos das práticas de manejo e produção de fruteiras para demais produtores do município de Urupema, SC. Textos técnicos de manejo de fruteiras temperadas foram disponibilizados, discutidos com o produtor e colocados em prática de acordo com o estádio fenológico da cultura ou exigência da prática cultural a ser realizada, verificando assim o aprendizado pelo produtor e estagiários. Foi realizado dia de campo com produtores rurais divulgando o aprendizado adquirido acrescentando ao conteúdo aprendido na escola, as relações entre homem e natureza e suas implicações, bem como, retorno ao produtor de todas as atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio

Deforestation and the ideologies of the frontier expansion: the case of criticism of the Brazilian Amazon monitoring program

In this article, we present some facts to contextualize the recent attacks against the Brazilian Amazon Monitoring Project carried out by the Brazilian government on the question of deforestation rates. We argue that these attacks represent a symptom of fundamental aspects of the case that need a sociological analysis of the ideologies that justify the reproduction of inequalities in the expansion of the frontier, as well as the influence that the beneficiaries of this process have acquired within the national policies for the Amazon region.  En este artículo, presentamos algunos elementos que permiten contextualizar los recientes ataques al Programa de Monitoreo de Deforestación Satelital de la Selva Amazónica de Brasil (PRODES) realizado por las negaciones del gobierno brasileño de las tasas de deforestación del Amazonas y el despido sumario del director del Instituto Nacional. de Investigación Espacial-INPE. Argumentamos que estos ataques son un síntoma de aspectos fundamentales para un análisis sociológico de los mecanismos de (re) producción de desigualdades en la expansión de la frontera, así como la influencia que los beneficiarios de este proceso pudieron adquirir dentro de las políticas nacionales para la Amazonía.Dans cet article, nous présentons quelques éléments qui permettent de contextualiser les récentes attaques contre le programme de surveillance de la déforestation par satellite (PRODES) par le gouvernement brésilien dans la forêt vierge amazonienne, dénoncées par le gouvernement brésilien quant au taux de déforestation de l'Amazonie et par le renvoi sans préavis du directeur de l'Institut national. de la recherche spatiale-INPE. Nous soutenons que ces attaques sont le symptôme d'aspects fondamentaux d'une analyse sociologique des mécanismes de (re) production d'inégalités dans l'expansion de la frontière, ainsi que de l'influence que les bénéficiaires de ce processus ont pu acquérir dans les politiques nationales de l'Amazone.Neste artigo, apresentamos alguns elementos que permitem contextualizar os recentes ataques ao Programa de Monitoramento do Desmatamento da Floresta Amazônica Brasileira por Satélite efetuados pelo governo brasileiro, sobre as taxas de desmatamento da Amazônia. O estado da arte da pesquisa em Psicologia do Esporte no Brasil

Este estudo objetiva investigar o estado da arte da publicação de artigos em Psicologia do Esporte no Brasil nas bases de dados Scielo e Scopus entre os anos de 2002 e 2012. A análise considerou o campo profissional no país, a pós-graduação, os congressos e periódicos nacionais da área da Psicologia e Educação Física. Como parâmetros, foram utilizadas questões relacionadas às instituições de ensino superior (IES), ao método e ao conteúdo. A pesquisa apontou a existência de 377 artigos produzidos por docentes e discentes de programas de pós-graduação em Educação Física e Psicologia. Notou-se um aumento expressivo de publicações entre os anos de 2009-2012, no entanto, a produção do conhecimento concentra-se ainda nas regiões Sul e Sudeste do Brasil. Ademais, verificou-se que 86,97% dos trabalhos são oriundos de IES públicas e de periódicos da Educação Física. Quanto às temáticas, observou-se a prevalência dos seguintes tópicos: "motivação", "aspectos emocionais intervenientes no esporte e na prática profissional", "imagem corporal" e "liderança esportiva", predominando a abordagem quantitativa de análise dos dados. Considerando o objetivo desta pesquisa, verificou-se um aumento da produção intelectual nos últimos anos, entretanto, pode-se afirmar que, na condição de ciência e profissão, a Psicologia do Esporte ainda é emergente, sendo necessário aprofundar a reflexão sobre a área. Assim, entende-se que os profissionais devem ser estimulados a desenvolver parcerias para a produção de artigos considerando a exigência da formação profissional para a área.This study investigates the state of the art of articles on sport psychology published in Brazil in the Scopus and Scielo databases between the years 2002 and 2012. Our analysis took into account this professional field in Brazil, postgraduate courses, and conferences and national journals in the field of psychology and physical education. As parameters, factors related to higher education institutions, methods and content matter were used. Our research confirmed the existence of 377 articles produced by teaching staff and students from postgraduate programmes in physical education and psychology. A significant increase in publications between the years 2009 and 2012 was noted, although this knowledge output was still concentrated in the south and southeast of Brazil. Moreover, it was found that 86.97% of the studies are from journals associated with public university-level departments of physical education. As for topics, there was a prevalence of the following: "motivation", "emotional aspects involved in sports and in professional practice", "body image" and "sport leadership", with a predominant quantitative approach to data analysis. When the purpose of this research study was addressed, an increase in intellectual output in recent years was confirmed, although it should be said that as a science and profession, sport psychology is still in the emerging stage and this field must be explored in greater depth. Thus, it is understood that professionals should be encouraged to develop partnerships for the production of articles, taking into account vocational training needs in this area

Perfeccionismo y nivel de cohesión de grupo de deportistas adultos de fútbol sala

This study investigated the perfectionism and level of cohesion of indoor soccer teams. The subjects were made of 58 players from a Brazilian professional league. The Group Environment Questionnaire and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale were used for assessment purposes. The data was analysed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Cronbach's alpha, Spearman correlation and Mann-Whitney test (p < .05). The results showed that the players had moderate levels of cohesion and achieved high scores for perfectionism in patterns of personal achievement and organization. A difference was identified in Integration in the Group Task (p = .005) and Individual Attraction toward the Group Task (p = .049) in terms of adaptive perfectionism, while no difference was detected in group cohesion when it came to maladaptive perfectionism. The results showed that organization (r= .41) and adaptive perfectionism (r = .39) may influence team cohesion in the fulfilment of tasks. As a result, perfectionism's dimensions proved to be decisive factors in the cohesion of the teams that comprised the sample.El presente trabajo investigó las dimensiones del perfeccionismo y el nivel de cohesión de equipos de fútbol sala. La muestra consta de 58 deportistas adultos de una liga profesional brasileña. Entre los instrumentos utilizados se incluyen el Cuestionario de Entorno de Grupo y la Escala Multidimensional de Perfeccionismo. El análisis de los datos se realizó a partir de los test Kolmogorov-Smirnov, alfa de Cronbach, la correlación de Spearman y Mann-Whitney (p < .05). De los resultados se desprende que los deportistas presentaron un nivel moderado de cohesión y se mostraran altamente perfeccionistas en cuanto a las dimensiones "Estándares personales" y "Organización", en las que se manifestaron las mayores puntuaciones. Se verificó una diferencia en las dimensiones "Integración del grupo hacia la tarea" (p = .005) y "Atracción individual hacia el grupo en la tarea" (p = .049) con relación a la tendencia al perfeccionismo adaptativo; no se detectó diferencia en la cohesión de grupo vinculada a la tendencia al perfeccionismo desadaptativo. El estudio demuestra que las dimensiones "Organización" (r = .41) y "Perfeccionismo adaptativo" (r = .39) pueden ser elementos que influyen en el desarrollo de la cohesión de los equipos hacia la tarea. Por lo tanto, las dimensiones del perfeccionismo demostraron ser factores determinantes de la cohesión de los equipos deportivos que formaron parte de la muestra

A Look at the National Pact for Literacy at the Right Age in the Mathematics Education Context

This article aims to present a public policy of large-scale literacy teachers continued training, the Pacto Nacional pela Alfabetização na Idade Certa (PNAIC), making a summary of the Brazilian dissertations and theses results which approached this public policy in the context of Mathematical Education. Initiated in 2012, the PNAIC involved more than three hundred thousand literacy teachers, from more than five thousand cities for five years. This article uses a qualitative research approach, in the descriptive modality, showing a status of the art of these researches. The set of works analyzed was divided into three groups, according to their declared research objectives: Objective 1: To analyze-investigate the meanings brought by the literacy teachers about the PNAIC (75.5%); Objective 2: To analyze-investigate the meanings brought by the other participants about the PNAIC (7.5%); and Objective 3: Unveil the PNAIC (17%). The analysis of the researches results associated with these objectives allowed us to reach four conclusions: 1) The trainings promoted by PNAIC supported changes in the pedagogical practices of the literacy teachers; 2) the trainings promoted by PNAIC were necessary, but they were not enough to combat illiteracy; 3) the trainings promoted by the PNAIC induced the literacy teachers to reflections about the pedagogical practices and 4) the trainings promoted by the PNAIC showed weaknesses. In summary, this article presents an initial analysis of the scope from the manifested studies in dissertations and theses and supports the realization of new studies in order to deepen the analysis and evaluation of the varied aspects of one of the broadest training programs ever implemented in Brazil
