    Distribution, diversity and evolution of endogenous retroviruses in perissodactyl genomes

    The evolution of mammalian genomes has been shaped by interactions with endogenous retroviruses (ERVs). In this study, we investigated the distribution and diversity of ERVs in the mammalian order Perissodactyla, with a view to understanding their impact on the evolution of modern equids (family Equidae). We characterize the major ERV lineages in the horse genome in terms of their genomic distribution, ancestral genome organization and time of activity. Our results show that subsequent to their ancestral divergence from rhinos and tapirs, equids acquired four novel ERV lineages. We show that two of these proliferated extensively in the lineage leading to modern horses, and one contains loci that are actively transcribed in specific tissues. In addition, we show that the white rhinoceros has resisted germline colonisation by retroviruses for over 54 million years - longer than any other extant mammalian species. The map of equine ERVs that we provide here will be of great utility to future studies aiming to investigate the potential functional roles of equine ERVs, and their impact on equine evolution

    A preliminary analysis of the population genetics and molecular phylogenetics of Onchocerca volvulus (Nematoda: Filarioidea) using nuclear ribosomal second internal transcribed spacer sequences.

    Nuclear internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) rDNA sequences were used for a molecular phylogenetics analysis of five Onchocerca species. The sister species of the human parasite O. volvulus was found to be the cattle parasite O. ochengi and not O. gibsoni, contrary to chromosomal evidence. The genetic differentiation of two African populations (representing the two African strains) and a Brazilian population of O. volvulus was also studied. Phylogenetic and network reconstruction did not show any clustering of ITS2 alleles on geographic or strain grounds. Furthermore, population genetics tests showed no indication of population differentiation but suggested gene flow among the three populations

    Correlation from undiluted vitreous cytokines of untreated central retinal vein occlusion with spectral domain optical coherence tomography

    Purpose: To correlate inflammatory and proangiogenic key cytokines from undiluted vitreous of treatment-naïve central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) patients with SD-OCT parameters. Methods: Thirty-five patients (age 71.1 years, 24 phakic, 30 nonischemic) underwent intravitreal combination therapy, including a single-site 23-gauge core vitrectomy. Twenty-eight samples from patients with idiopathic, non-uveitis floaterectomy served as controls. Interleukin 6 (IL-6), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A) levels were correlated with the visual acuity (logMar), category of CRVO (ischemic or nonischemic) and morphologic parameters, such as central macular thickness-CMT, thickness of neurosensory retina-TNeuro, extent of serous retinal detachment-SRT and disintegrity of the IS/OS and others. Results: The mean IL-6 was 64.7pg/ml (SD ± 115.8), MCP-1 1015.7 ( ± 970.1), and VEGF-A 278.4 ( ± 512.8), which was significantly higher than the control IL-6 6.2 ± 3.4pg/ml (P=0.06), MCP-1 253.2 ± 73.5 (P<0.0000001) and VEGF-A 7.0 ± 4.9 (P<0.0006). All cytokines correlated highly with one another (correlation coefficient r=0.82 for IL-6 and MCP-1; r=0.68 for Il-6 and VEGF-A; r=0.64 for MCP-1 and VEGF-A). IL-6 correlated significantly with CMT, TRT, SRT, dIS/OS, and dELM. MCP-1 correlated significantly with SRT, dIS/OS, and dELM. VEGF-A correlated not with changes in SD-OCT, while it had a trend to be higher in the ischemic versus the nonischemic CRVO group (P=0.09). Conclusions: The inflammatory cytokines were more often correlated with morphologic changes assessed by SD-OCT, whereas VEGF-A did not correlate with CRVO-associated changes in SD-OCT. VEGF inhibition alone may not be sufficient in decreasing the inflammatory response in CRVO therapy

In some patients, axial inflammation leads to irreversible structural damage that in the spine is usually quantified by the modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spinal Score (mSASSS). Available therapeutic options include biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs), which have been proven effective in suppressing inflammation in several randomised controlled trials (RCT), the gold standard for evaluating causal treatment effects. RCTs are, however, unfeasible for testing structural effects in axSpA mainly due to the low sensitivity to change of the mSASSS. The available literature therefore mainly includes observational research, which poses serious challenges to the determination of causality. Here, we review the studies testing the effect of bDMARDs on spinal radiographic progression, making use of the principles of causal inference. By exploring the assumptions of causality under counterfactual reasoning (exchangeability, positivity and consistency), we distinguish between studies that likely have reported confounded treatment effects and studies that, on the basis of their design, have more likely reported causal treatment effects. We conclude that bDMARDs might, indirectly, interfere with spinal radiographic progression in axSpA by their effect on inflammation. Innovations in imaging are expected, so that placebo-controlled trials can in the future become a reality. In the meantime, causal inference analysis using observational data may contribute to a better understanding of whether disease modification is possible in axSpA.publishersversionpublishe

    Expression of animal anti-apoptotic gene ced-9 enhances tolerance during Glycine max L.– Bradyrhizobium japonicum interaction under saline stress but reduces nodule formation

    The mechanisms by which the expression of animal cell death suppressors in economically important plants conferred enhanced stress tolerance are not fully understood. In the present work, the effect of expression of animal antiapoptotic gene Ced-9 in soybean hairy roots was evaluated under root hairs and hairy roots death-inducing stress conditions given by i) Bradyrhizobium japonicum inoculation in presence of 50 mM NaCl, and ii) severe salt stress (150 mM NaCl), for 30 min and 3 h, respectively. We have determined that root hairs death induced by inoculation in presence of 50 mM NaCl showed characteristics of ordered process, with increased ROS generation, MDA and ATP levels, whereas the cell death induced by 150 mM NaCl treatment showed non-ordered or necrotic-like characteristics. The expression of Ced-9 inhibited or at least delayed root hairs death under these treatments. Hairy roots expressing Ced-9 had better homeostasis maintenance, preventing potassium release; increasing the ATP levels and controlling the oxidative damage avoiding the increase of reactive oxygen species production. Even when our results demonstrate a positive effect of animal cell death suppressors in plant cell ionic and redox homeostasis under cell death-inducing conditions, its expression, contrary to expectations, drastically inhibited nodule formation even under control conditions.Fil: Robert, German.     Gestión educativa y el desempeño laboral docente del CEBA Edelmira del Pando de la UGEL Nº 06 Ate, 2014

    La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo general determinar la relación entre la Gestión Educativa y el desempeño laboral docente del CEBA Edelmira del Pando de la UGEL N° 06 Ate, 2014. La investigación fue de tipo correlacional, con diseño no experimental transeccional. La población estuvo conformada por 86 docentes que laboran en el CEBA de los cuales se seleccionó la totalidad de los sujetos como muestra censal. La técnica utilizada fue la encuesta para ello se utilizó dos instrumentos como cuestionarios, los cuales fueron validados por expertos. Los datos obtenidos en los instrumentos fueron sometidos a la confiabilidad a través del coeficiente Alfa Cronbach con una alta confiabilidad de 0,851. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó la estadística inferencial de Spearman sobre los puntajes obtenidos mediante los cuestionarios. Obteniéndose de rs=0,799 con un nivel de significancia (bilateral) 0,000; lo cual indica que la correlación es positiva considerable. Por lo tanto, se concluye que la gestión educativa se relaciona significativamente con el desempeño docente en el CEBA “Edelmira del Pando” de la UGEL N° 06 Ate, 2014. Entre las dimensiones de gestión pedagógica y el desempeño profesional, si existe una correlación de 0,739 con un nivel de significancia (bilateral) 0,000; lo cual indica que la correlación es positiva media. Por lo cual, se concluye que la gestión pedagógica se relaciona significativamente con el desempeño profesional de los docentes. Entre las dimensiones de gestión institucional y el desempeño personal, si existe una correlación de 0,415 con un nivel de significancia (bilateral) 0,000; lo cual indica que la correlación es positiva débil. Por lo cual, se concluye que la gestión institucional se relaciona significativamente con el desempeño personal de los docentes. Entre las dimensiones de gestión administrativa y el desempeño social, hallándose una correlación de 0,483 con un nivel de significancia (bilateral) 0,000; lo cual indica que la correlación es positiva débil. On passe en revue de façon succincte les principaux élastomères thermoplastiques commerciaux ou en développement. Pour chacun d'eux, on décrit brièvement la structure, les propriétés, la mise en oeuvre et les applications. Thermoplastic elastomers are relatively new materials that are characterized both by rapid implementation, similar to that of thermoplastic polymers, and by properties intermediate between those of vulcanized elastomers and plasticized thermoplastic polymers. This article makes a succinct review of the leading commercial thermoplastic elastomers or the ones being developed.     Música y cine: musicalización del cortometraje <i>Memorias</i>

    A partir del año 2019, los departamentos de Música y Artes Audiovisuales de la Facultad de Artes (FdA-UNLP) vienen llevando adelante un proyecto de producción en colaboración, mediante las cátedras de Música Incidental y Realización 4. La situación de pandemia que hemos padecido, paradójicamente afianzó los vínculos de aquel momento inicial. El presente trabajo narra los distintos momentos de la elaboración de la música de un cortometraje producido durante 2021. En él, se relata cómo estudiantes músicos y cineastas comenzaron a vincularse y luego a trabajar juntos, tomando las decisiones necesarias para lograr un producto digno de exposición. Mediante la difusión de estos procesos de trabajo, esperamos hacer un aporte como antecedente hacia una producción audiovisual integral, vinculada con nuestra identidad: universitaria, platense, nacional.Facultad de Arte
