    openIn this thesis, a Battery Management System prototype has been developed for a formula SAE concept car. The design is focused on trying to improve the reliability of the system and remove problems that the previous version had. To do this, numerous tests were carried out on the previous version and critical points were analyzed in order to solve them. The purpose of this report is to explain the entire development phase and how the prototype came about. The choices of the components that make up the prototype will be analyzed and the programming code written to be able to control the microcontroller and allow the correct exchange of data between the various integrated components in the prototype will be presented.     During the last five years Fuzzy Logic has gained enormous popularity in the academic and industrial worlds. The success of this new methodology has led the microelectronics industry to create a new class of machines, called Fuzzy Machines, to overcome the limitations of traditional computing systems when utilized as Fuzzy Systems. This paper gives an overview of the methods by which Fuzzy Logic data structures are represented in the machines (each with its own advantages and inefficiencies). Next, the paper introduces WARP (Weight Associative Rule Processor) which is a dedicated VLSI megacell allowing the realization of a fuzzy controller suitable for a wide range of applications. WARP represents an innovative approach to VLSI Fuzzy controllers by utilizing different types of data structures for characterizing the membership functions during the various stages of the Fuzzy processing. WARP dedicated architecture has been designed in order to achieve high performance by exploiting the computational advantages offered by the different data representations

    Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Marketing IntelligenceDespite the criticism, the fashion industry is a pioneer in sustainable initiatives. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a relevant form for companies to achieve various social objectives. However, consumers’ perceptions on fast fashion companies’ efforts is until now unknown. This research analyzes the consumer’s purchase intention through many drivers established in previous literature to be significant to the consumer-company relationship. This study evaluates the relationship between fast fashion industry and some important concepts present in Corporate Social Responsibility studies. The current research adds to the CSR literature by identifying CSR-fit and ethicality as drivers of CSR Authenticity. Authenticity is revealed to be an important predictor of Trust, Social Responsibility, and has an effect on General Attitudes. However, and surprisingly, it does not directly affect purchase intention. Trust appears to be the most important dimension to the CSR framework, significantly impacting Purchase Intention, and Social Responsibility impacts consumer engagement. Consumer engagement and social signaling are also demonstrated to have an impact on purchase intention. Taken together, our CSR framework makes important contributions to understanding consumers’ needs and perceptions fulfilled by CSR programs in the fast fashion industry

    Greenhouses used for agricultural production are structures to partially control soil and climate conditions such as temperature, air humidity, radiation, wind, and atmospheric composition.  Thus, according to Cermeño (1990) protected cultivation has quantitative and qualitative advantages compared to field cultivation since productivity in the first system can be 2 to 3 times higher. Bamboo is considered a sustainable material because it is renewable, absorbs carbon dioxide, uses solar energy, and is easily incorporated into nature at your life cycle end. The aim of this paper was to analyze the technical feasibility of bamboo in the construction of a greenhouse for protected cultivation. For this, the aerodynamic and structural behavior was analyzed in order to obtain the safety margins for this construction. With the safety margins it was determined that bamboo is a plausible material for the construction of these structures.As estufas utilizadas para a produção agrícola são estruturas para controlar parcialmente as condições edafoclimáticas, tais como temperatura, umidade do ar, radiação, vento e composição atmosférica.  Assim, de acordo com Cermeño (1990), o cultivo protegido tem vantagens quantitativas e qualitativas em relação ao cultivo em campo aberto, uma vez que a produtividade no primeiro sistema pode ser 2 a 3 vezes superior. O bambu é considerado um material sustentável porque é renovável, absorve dióxido de carbono, utiliza energia solar, e é facilmente incorporado na natureza no final do seu ciclo de vida. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a viabilidade técnica do bambu na construção de uma estufa para o cultivo protegido. Para tal, foi analisado o comportamento aerodinâmico e estrutural, a fim de obter as margens de segurança para esta construção. Com as margens de segurança foi determinado que o bambu é um material plausível para a construção destas estruturas

    Targeting nuclear size for therapeutic intervention in cancer

    Nuclear size normally scales with cell size and is maintained throughout the cell cycle, but in cancer this karyoplasmic ratio, the ratio between the cytoplasm and the nucleoplasm, is disrupted, particularly in certain types of more metastatic tumours from certain cancer types. As the direction and scale of nuclear size changes differs for particular tumour types — for example in breast cancer larger nuclear size correlates with increased metastasis while for lung cancer smaller nuclear size correlates with increased metastasis — there must be tissue-specific drivers of these changes. This study aimed to screen several tissue-specific nuclear envelope transmembrane proteins (NETs) and separately a small molecule compound library for effects on nuclear size in cell lines from different cancer types. The NET screen was engaged in cells from prostate cancer (PC3) and cervical carcinoma (HeLa) and different sets of NETs affected nuclear size in each tumour type. Interestingly, these NETs also exhibited altered gene copy numbers in patient samples from particular tissue cancer types where their effects on nuclear size correlated with the directionality of nuclear size changes in the tumours. The compound screen was performed on the PC3 cells and on colonic adenocarcinoma (HCT116) and small cell lung carcinoma (H1299) cells. Each cancer type screened was affected by different compounds, so that both screens suggest a tissue-specific regulation of nuclear size. Interestingly, these compounds also reduced cell migration in wound healing assays, suggesting they might reduce tumour metastatic spread. Finally, merging both screens, the NET DHRS7/NET50 and the compound estradiol proprionate that both affect nuclear size in the prostate cancer model seem to intersect in the same pathway and we anticipate that further study will elucidate a mechanism for the nuclear size defects in late-stage prostate cancer
