    The Adapted Ordering Method for Lie Algebras and Superalgebras and their Generalizations

    In 1998 the Adapted Ordering Method was developed for the representation theory of the superconformal algebras in two dimensions. It allows: to determine maximal dimensions for a given type of space of singular vectors, to identify all singular vectors by only a few coefficients, to spot subsingular vectors and to set the basis for constructing embedding diagrams. In this article we present the Adapted Ordering Method for general Lie algebras and superalgebras, and their generalizations, provided they can be triangulated. We also review briefly the results obtained for the Virasoro algebra and for the N=2 and Ramond N=1 superconformal algebras.Comment: Many improvements in the redaction for pedagogical purposes.     Habitability: CAMELOT 4

    During 1988 to 1989 the NASA/USRA Advanced Design Program sponsored research and design efforts aimed at developing habitability criteria and at defining a habitability concept as a useful tool in understanding and evaluating dwellings for prolonged stays in extraterrestrial space. The Circulating Auto sufficient Mars-Earth Luxurious Orbital Transport (CAMELOT) was studied as a case in which the students would try to enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants by applying architectural design methodology. The study proposed 14 habitability criteria considered necessary to fulfill the defined habitability concept, which is that state of equilibrium that results from the interaction between components of the Individual Architecture Mission Complex, which allows a person to sustain physiological homeostatis, adequate performance, and acceptable social relationships.     Partition Function of N=2N=2 Gauge Theories on a Squashed S4S^4 with SU(2)×U(1)SU(2)\times U(1) Isometry

    We study N=2N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories on a large family of squashed 4-spheres preserving SU(2)×U(1)⊂SO(4)SU(2)\times U(1)\subset SO(4) isometry and determine the conditions under which this background is supersymmetric. We then compute the partition function of the theories by using localization technique. The results indicate that for N=2N=2 SUSY, including both vector-multiplets and hypermultiplets, the partition function is independent of the arbitrary squashing functions as well as of the other supergravity background fields.Comment: version to appear in Nuclear Physics

    Commensurate-Incommensurate Magnetic Phase Transition in Magnetoelectric Single Crystal LiNiPO4_4

    Neutron scattering studies of single-crystal LiNiPO4_4 reveal a spontaneous first-order commensurate-incommensurate magnetic phase transition. Short- and long-range incommensurate phases are intermediate between the high temperature paramagnetic and the low temperature antiferromagnetic phases. The modulated structure has a predominant antiferromagnetic component, giving rise to satellite peaks in the vicinity of the fundamental antiferromagnetic Bragg reflection, and a ferromagnetic component giving rise to peaks at small momentum-transfers around the origin at (0,±Q,0)(0,\pm Q,0). The wavelength of the modulated magnetic structure varies continuously with temperature. It is argued that the incommensurate short- and long-range phases are due to spin-dimensionality crossover from a continuous to the discrete Ising state. These observations explain the anomalous first-order transition seen in the magnetoelectric effect of this system

    Impact of noise on a dynamical system: prediction and uncertainties from a swarm-optimized neural network

    In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) was developed for the time series prediction. The hybrid ANN+PSO algorithm was applied on Mackey--Glass chaotic time series in the short-term x(t+6)x(t+6). The performance prediction was evaluated and compared with another studies available in the literature. Also, we presented properties of the dynamical system via the study of chaotic behaviour obtained from the predicted time series. Next, the hybrid ANN+PSO algorithm was complemented with a Gaussian stochastic procedure (called {\it stochastic} hybrid ANN+PSO) in order to obtain a new estimator of the predictions, which also allowed us to compute uncertainties of predictions for noisy Mackey--Glass chaotic time series. Thus, we studied the impact of noise for several cases with a white noise level (σN\sigma_{N}) from 0.01 to 0.1.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure

    El aprendizaje-servicio en el curriculo oficial del Grado de Medicina de la Universidad de Málaga

    Los futuros médicos deben adquirir un amplio currículo de conocimientos, habilidades y competencias que supera al científico-tecnológico. Las facultades de medicina han basado su enseñanza en un modelo tradicional académico que debe actualizarse según las necesidades de la sociedad global, centrada en el paciente y su entorno y de educar en libertad en un marco democrático de derechos ciudadanos y de diversidad, no solo cultural sino también étnica y económica. Para ello es necesario realizar una transición hacia un modelo más centrado en la comunidad y los valores de justicia, que la sociedad demanda, actualizando el estilo del cuidado de la salud. Para conseguir este objetivo propusimos la inclusión en el plan de estudios de Medicina de una asignatura optativa basada en la metodología pedagógica aprendizaje-servicio (ApS). El ApS es una metodología en la que el estudiante se compromete en las necesidades reales de la comunidad, implicándose, prestando un servicio directamente relacionado con su currículo oficial. Entre los principales objetivos está la formación en valores mediante la adquisición de competencias no sólo específicas del área de estudio, sino fundamentalmente la generales y básicas de la titulación y las transversales. Se ha impartido por primera vez durante el curso académico 2017-2018, con la implicación de instituciones académicas y extracadémicas como son la UMA y ONGs como Médicos del Mundo y Farmamundi, para crear sinergias. Y con la actuación directa en distintos colectivos socialmente deprimidos. Entre los retos planteados están: -Inmersión de los estudiantes en realidades sociales totalmente diferentes a las de su entorno habitual colaborando con otras instituciones cuyos objetivos principales son de servicio social. -Participación de la Facultad de Medicina de Málaga en la realidad social más deprimida, comprometiéndose con ellos en un deseo de mejorarlos, aportando tanto conocimientos como recursos.Universidad de Málaga.
