Induced martensitic transformation during tensile test in nanostructured bainitic steels

    Get PDF
Retained austenite in nanostructured bainite is able to undergo mechanically induced martensitic transformation. However, the link between transformation and deformation mechanisms involved makes difficult the understanding of the process. In this work, a model has been developed to assess the effect of the external stress itself on the martensite phase transformation. In addition, after a detailed initial microstructural characterization, the martensite fraction evolution during tensile deformation has been obtained by means of X-ray diffraction analyses after interrupted tensile tests in several nanostructured bainitic steels. Experimental results have been compared to the outputs of the model, as a reference. They suggests that stress partitioning between phases upon tensile deformation is promoted by isothermal transformation at lower temperatures. The authors gratefully acknowledge the support of the European Research Fund for Coal and Steel, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) for partially funding this research under the contracts RFSR-CT-2012-00017, RFSR-CT-2014-00016 and MAT2013-47460-C5-1−P respectively. Long Term Hippocampal and Cortical Changes Induced by Maternal Deprivation and Neonatal Leptin Treatment in Male and Female Rats

    Get PDF
Maternal deprivation (MD) during neonatal life has diverse long-term behavioral effects and alters the development of the hippocampus and frontal cortex, with several of these effects being sexually dimorphic. MD animals show a marked reduction in their circulating leptin levels, not only during the MD period, but also several days later (PND 13). A neonatal leptin surge occurs in rodents (beginning around PND 5 and peaking between PND 9 and 10) that has an important neurotrophic role. We hypothesized that the deficient neonatal leptin signaling of MD rats could be involved in the altered development of their hippocampus and frontal cortex. Accordingly, a neonatal leptin treatment in MD rats would at least in part counteract their neurobehavioural alterations. MD was carried out in Wistar rats for 24 h on PND 9. Male and female MD and control rats were treated from PND 9 to 13 with rat leptin (3 mg/kg/day sc) or vehicle. In adulthood, the animals were submitted to the open field, novel object memory test and the elevated plus maze test of anxiety. Neuronal and glial population markers, components of the glutamatergic and cannabinoid systems and diverse synaptic plasticity markers were evaluated by PCR and/or western blotting. Main results include: 1) In some of the parameters analyzed, neonatal leptin treatment reversed the effects of MD (eg., mRNA expression of hippocampal IGF1 and protein expression of GFAP and vimentin) partially confirming our hypothesis; 2) The neonatal leptin treatment, per se, exerted a number of behavioral (increased anxiety) and neural effects (eg., expression of the following proteins: NG2, NeuN, PSD95, NCAM, synaptophysin). Most of these effects were sex dependent. An adequate neonatal leptin level (avoiding excess and deficiency) appears to be necessary for its correct neuro-programing effect

A procedure for indirect and automatic measurement of prior austenite grain size in bainite/martensite microstructures

    Get PDF
An alternative procedure for indirect and automatic measurement of the prior austenite grain size (PAGS) in bainite/martensite is proposed in this work. It consists in the determination of an effective grain size (EGS) by means of statistical post-processing of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) data. The algorithm developed for that purpose, which is available on-line, has been applied to simulated EBSD maps as well as to both a nanocrystalline bainitic steel and a commercial hot-rolled air-cooled steel with a granular bainitic microstructure. The new proposed method has been proven to be robust and results are in good agreement with conventional PAGS measurements. The added value of the procedure comes from its simplicity, as no parent reconstruction is involved during the process, and its suitability for low-magnification EBSD maps, thus allowing a large step-size and coverage of a substantially broader area of the sample than the previous methods reported.Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness for funding this research under the contract IPT-2012-0320-420000. ALGORITMO DE CIFRADO SIMÉTRICO BASADO EN MAPEO LOGÍSTICO Y TRANSFORMADA RÁPIDA DE FOURIER

    Get PDF

Pseudo-Random Bit Generator Using Chaotic Seed for Cryptographic Algorithm in Data Protection of Electric Power Consumption

Cryptographic algorithms have played an important role in information security for protecting privacy. The literature provides evidence that many types of chaotic cryptosystems have been proposed. These chaotic systems encode information to obviate its orbital instability and ergodicity. In this work, a pseudo-random cryptographic generator algorithm with a symmetric key, based on chaotic functions, is proposed. Moreover, the algorithm exploits dynamic simplicity and synchronization to generate encryption sub-keys using unpredictable seeds, extracted from a chaotic zone, in order to increase their level of randomness. Also, it is applied to a simulated electrical energy consumption signal and implemented on a prototype, using low hardware resources, to measure physical variables; hence, the unpredictability degree was statistically analyzed using the resulting cryptogram. It is shown that the pseudo-random sequences produced by the cryptographic key generator have acceptable properties with respect to randomness, which are validated in this paper using National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) statistical tests. To complement the evaluation of the encrypted data, the Lena image is coded and its metrics are compared with those reported in the literature, yielding some useful results

Since childhood, learning to interpret certain graphic symbols denotes evolution, growth and development that, at the end of our days, determine everything that was fundamental to take part in one society or another. In this sense, the incidence of family and peers support in the development of the reading process that culminates in a high level of reading comprehension, could be an essential factor since they are the ones who are present in these stages. That is why, in this research, we aim to know if this relationship affects consistently the level of reading comprehension reached by 27 students in 4th grade in primary school. The use of a quantitative method is chosen in order to investigate the variables and elements that are relevant to the subject, this confirming the existence or not of the relationship between the level of reading comprehension and how involved the family nucleus and peers are in the process. This was developed through two tests; the first one, a questionnaire of family composition and reading habits; and the second, a reading comprehension test. The results indicate that the influence of family and peer support, as well as the accompaniment in the reading process is indeed positive in terms of the reading comprehension that students reach, however, this is not statistically significant, which means that the difference is not enough to generalize this factor as a determinant in reading comprehension
