On the Performance of Carbon Nanotubes on Sintered Alumina-Zirconia Ceramics

    Get PDF
The alumina (Al2O3) and zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic monoliths and their combination are used in both technical and biomedical applications due to their combination of excellent chemical, physical, and mechanical properties. Pressureless sintering (PLS), reaction bonding (RB), hot pressing (HP), hot isostatic pressing (HIP), and spark plasma sintering (SPS) are the sintering methods more commonly used. The high brittleness, the low fracture toughness, and low thermal stability that possess these ceramics are its Achilles heel for numerous engineering applications. The incorporation of a second phase such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into the ceramic matrix has been attempted to overcome these drawbacks but the obtained results are still controversial considering that the homogeneous dispersion of CNTs and the interfacial bonding between two different ceramic materials remains as a difficult task leading to little or even no improvement in mechanical properties. Besides, the role of CNTs in the sintering of ceramic materials is not clear in the scientific literature taking into account parameters such as materials used and particularly inconsistencies in dispersion and mixing of the CNTs. We discuss how the CNTs can affect the sintering behavior and microstructural evolution of alumina and zirconia ceramics and the combination of them

    Get PDF
Este sistema auxiliará a todos aquellos alumnos tutorados y profesores tutores de la ESIQIE.Due to the lack of time of teachers and/or students of the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Extractive Industries (ESIQIE) participating in the Institutional Tutoring Program (PIT), most of the time it is not possible to carry out tutorials in person, together with the fact that there is currently no system for recording activities carried out during the program. It is for this reason that a support system for the follow-up of academic tutoring of the PIT in the ESIQIE is proposed, which will allow monitoring the tutoring process, register and provide online tutoring through conventional chats or videoconferences, In the same way the interested teachers will be able to register new tutoring courses and also the students will be able to maintain contact with their tutors teachers

ArticuloShiga toxin E. coli (STEC) is an important pathogen responsible for foodborne illness, this have been related with epidemic outbreaks in the past, mainly because of consumption of bovine meat. The objective of this study was identify the serotypes and Stx2 subtypes and associate them with their possible epidemiology. There were analyzed a total of 65 isolates from the collection of the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados en Salud Animal, Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, from carcasses and feces of bovines at three different Municipal slaughterhouses. The identification of Stx2 gene by PCR at final point, sequencing and analyzed with the help of BLAST software. There were found O157:H7, O70:H16, O91:H10, O112ac:H2, O128ac:H26 serotypes, which have been reported to be present at infectious outbreaks previously by foodborne worldwide; 63.07% (41/65) of the Escherichia coli strains got amplified for Stx2 and after BLAS analysis it was confirmed its presence and a hypothetic protein. The presence of this serotypes in combination with different subtype’s, Stx2a, Stx2c, Stx2d, in carcasses and feces of bovine in must be considered as a potential risk for diseases an important problem of the public health

Study of carbon-doped Mn3Ga thin films with enhanced magnetization

    Get PDF
Carbon-doped Mn3Ga thin films were grown on Si/SiO2 substrates using rf magnetron sputtering technique and they present an enhancement of their magnetization. In this work we focus on the structural stress, theoretical calculations and magnetization analysis (using both Bloch's and Kneller's laws). The residual stress component has been calculated by means of x-ray diffraction in gracing incidence, using the ? method for multiple crystallographic reflections. We have observed an increase of the cell volume or positive (tensile) strain, which is higher near the surface of the film. The existence of induced magnetism in Mn3GaC0.25, with C entering in interstitial positions has been investigated by first-principles calculations, using the projector-augmented-wave method, within the generalized gradient approximation. Spin charge distributions and magnetic moments associated with each ion, were analyzed by performing a Bader charge analysis. Noteworthily, in spite of being a thin film, the magnetic behavior of the sample can be well described considering it formed by magnetic nanoparticles. Magnetic field and temperature dependence of the magnetization measurements were used to evaluate the Bloch and Kneller exponents, showing that dipolar interactions take place between Mn3GaC0.25 nanoparticle

Analysis of the key features of the seismic actions due to the three main earthquakes of May 11, 2011 in Lorca, Spain

The seismic records are in general valuable information, especially in cases where damage in buildings has occurred. The main purpose of the present document is to describe the principal results of the analysis of features of ground motions due to the main three earthquakes that occurred in Spain on May 11, 2011. In this day the major earthquake had a magnitude of 5.1 Mw. This event triggered different levels of damage in numerous buildings in the city of Lorca located in southern Spain. Unfortunately, 9 persons died due mainly to the collapse of non-structural elements. We describe in the present paper the application of the software Seismograms Analyzer-e (SA-e) to perform the processing and the analysis of the seismic records obtained in five stations during the main three earthquakes on May 11 (the largest earthquake of magnitude 5.1 Mw, the precursor of magnitude 4.5 Mw, and the aftershock of magnitude 3.9 Mw). We also highlight the significant similitudes between the seismograms generated in the LOR station during these three earthquakes. Additionally, we determined the values of acceleration that occurred in the roof of the buildings of Lorca, because these values of acceleration contributed both to the damage of numerous buildings and the collapse of several parapets of some buildings. The analysis of these accelerations is relevant because the collapse of some parapets was the cause of the death of the 9 people that died during the main earthquake. For example, according to our study in the roof of a building with a fundamental period of 0.25 s the acceleration could have reached values near to 1.04 g. We also analyzed the potential of damage in function of the values of CAVSTD. Additionally, we determined hypothetical seismic forces for the design of parapets in buildings of Lorca considering the NCSE-02 normative, and the values of Sa based on the seismic records. We determined a significant difference between the seismic forces that could have been used to design the parapets of the buildings in the Lorca city and the forces determined according to the values of PGA that were proposed in a recent study of seismic hazard for Spain. The first author acknowledges to CONACYT, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and to the Universidad Veracruzana by their contribution to the development of the present study. Complementary information about Seismograms Analyzer-e is available on the WEB page of SA-e2 . .Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
