Beliefs and Attitudes of Medical Students from Public and Private Universities in Malaysia towards Individuals with HIV/AIDS
We describe the findings from a survey assessing the beliefs regarding testing, confidentiality, disclosure, and environment of care and attitudes towards care of people with HIV/AIDS (PLHWA), in 1020, 4th and 5th year medical students, from public and private medical universities in Malaysia. A self-administered validated questionnaire based on the UNAIDS Model Questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale (5, strongly disagree; 4, disagree; 3, neutral; 2, agree; 1, strongly agree) was used as a survey tool. The survey included demographic data and data on undergraduate training received on HIV/AIDS. Statistical significance in the demographic data and training received by respondents was evaluated using the chi-square test while the independent Student's t-test was used for comparison of means between public and private universities. A P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant with 95% confidence interval. Our study revealed less than 20% of medical students received adequate training to care for PLHWA. They had prevalent negative beliefs regarding testing, confidentiality, disclosure and environment of care towards PLHWA although in giving care to PLHWA, their attitudes were largely positive and nondiscriminatory.Article Link:

SWAS and Arecibo observations of H2O and OH in a diffuse cloud along the line-of-sight to W51
Observations of W51 with the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS)
have yielded the first detection of water vapor in a diffuse molecular cloud.
The water vapor lies in a foreground cloud that gives rise to an absorption
feature at an LSR velocity of 6 km/s. The inferred H2O column density is
2.5E+13 cm-2. Observations with the Arecibo radio telescope of hydroxyl
molecules at ten positions in W51 imply an OH column density of 8E+13 cm-2 in
the same diffuse cloud. The observed H2O/OH ratio of ~ 0.3 is significantly
larger than an upper limit derived previously from ultraviolet observations of
the similar diffuse molecular cloud lying in front of HD 154368. The observed
variation in H2O/OH likely points to the presence in one or both of these
clouds of a warm (T > 400) gas component in which neutral-neutral reactions are

International R&M/Safety Cooperation Lessons Learned Between NASA and JAXA
Presented are a number of important experiences gained and lessons learned from the collaboration of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on the CoNNeCT (Communications, Navigation, and Networking re-Configurable Testbed) project. Both space agencies worked on the CoNNeCT Project to design, assemble, test, integrate, and launch a communications testbed facility mounted onto the International Space Station (ISS) truss. At the 2012 RAMS, two papers about CoNNeCT were presented: one on Ground Support Equipment Reliability & System Safety, and the other one on combined application of System Safety & Reliability for the flight system. In addition to the logistics challenges present when two organizations are on the opposite side of the world, there is also a language barrier. The language barrier encompasses not only the different alphabet, it encompasses the social interactions; these were addressed by techniques presented in the paper. The differences in interpretation and application of Spaceflight Requirements will be discussed in this paper. Although many, but definitely not all, of JAXA's Spaceflight Requirements were inspired by NASA, there were significant and critically important differences in how they were interpreted and applied. This paper intends to summarize which practices worked and which did not for an international collaborative effort so that future missions may benefit from our experiences. The CoNNeCT flight system has been successfully assembled, integrated, tested, shipped, launched and installed on the ISS without incident. This demonstrates that the steps taken to facilitate international understanding, communication, and coordination were successful and warrant discussion as lessons learned
Laparoscopic Radical Trachelectomy
Introduction:
The standard treatment for patients with early-stage cervical cancer has been radical hysterectomy. However, for women interested in future fertility, radical trachelectomy is now considered a safe and feasible option. The use of minimally invasive surgical techniques to perform this procedure has recently been reported.
Case Description:
We report the first case of a laparoscopic radical trachelectomy performed in a developing country. The patient is a nulligravid, 30-y-old female with stage IB1 adenocarcinoma of the cervix who desired future fertility. She underwent a laparoscopic radical trachelectomy and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection. The operative time was 340 min, and the estimated blood loss was 100mL. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications. The final pathology showed no evidence of residual disease, and all pelvic lymph nodes were negative. At 20 mo of follow-up, the patient is having regular menses but has not yet attempted to become pregnant. There is no evidence of recurrence.
Conclusion:
Laparoscopic radical trachelectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy in a young woman who desires future fertility may also be an alternative technique in the treatment of early cervical cancer in developing countries
Integral-Field Spectroscopy of the Post Red Supergiant IRC +10420: evidence for an axi-symmetric wind
We present NAOMI/OASIS adaptive-optics assisted integral-field spectroscopy
of the transitional massive hypergiant IRC +10420, an extreme mass-losing star
apparently in the process of evolving from a Red Supergiant toward the
Wolf-Rayet phase. To investigate the present-day mass-loss geometry of the
star, we study the appearance of the line-emission from the inner wind as
viewed when reflected off the surrounding nebula. We find that, contrary to
previous work, there is strong evidence for wind axi-symmetry, based on the
equivalent-width and velocity variations of H and Fe {\sc ii}
6516. We attribute this behaviour to the appearance of the complex
line-profiles when viewed from different angles. We also speculate that the Ti
{\sc ii} emission originates in the outer nebula in a region analogous to the
Strontium Filament of Carinae, based on the morphology of the
line-emission. Finally, we suggest that the present-day axisymmetric wind of
IRC +10420, combined with its continued blueward evolution, is evidence that

Universal heat conduction in the iron-arsenide superconductor KFe2As2 : Evidence of a d-wave state
The thermal conductivity of the iron-arsenide superconductor KFe2As2 was
measured down to 50 mK for a heat current parallel and perpendicular to the
tetragonal c-axis. A residual linear term (RLT) at T=0 is observed for both
current directions, confirming the presence of nodes in the superconducting
gap. Our value of the RLT in the plane is equal to that reported by Dong et al.
[Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 087005 (2010)] for a sample whose residual resistivity
was ten times larger. This independence of the RLT on impurity scattering is
the signature of universal heat transport, a property of superconducting states
with symmetry-imposed line nodes. This argues against an s-wave state with
accidental nodes. It favors instead a d-wave state, an assignment consistent
with five additional properties: the magnitude of the critical scattering rate
for suppressing Tc to zero; the magnitude of the RLT, and its dependence on
current direction and on magnetic field; the temperature dependence of the

Discovery of the Optical Counterparts to Four Energetic Fermi Millisecond Pulsars
In the last few years, over 43 millisecond radio pulsars have been discovered
by targeted searches of unidentified gamma-ray sources found by the Fermi
Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. A large fraction of these millisecond pulsars are in
compact binaries with low-mass companions. These systems often show eclipses of
the pulsar signal and are commonly known as black widows and redbacks because
the pulsar is gradually destroying its companion. In this paper, we report on
the optical discovery of four strongly irradiated millisecond pulsar
companions. All four sources show modulations of their color and luminosity at
the known orbital periods from radio timing. Light curve modelling of our
exploratory data shows that the equilibrium temperature reached on the
companion's dayside with respect to their nightside is consistent with about
10-30% of the available spin-down energy from the pulsar being reprocessed to
increase the companion's dayside temperature. This value compares well with the
range observed in other irradiated pulsar binaries and offers insights about
the energetics of the pulsar wind and the production of gamma-ray emission. In
addition, this provides a simple way of estimating the brightness of irradiated
pulsar companions given the pulsar spin-down luminosity. Our analysis also
suggests that two of the four new irradiated pulsar companions are only
partially filling their Roche lobe. Some of these sources are relatively bright
and represent good targets for spectroscopic follow-up. These measurements
could enable, among other things, mass determination of the neutron stars in

Modeling the radial abundance distribution of the transition galaxy ngc 1313
NGC 1313 is the most massive disk galaxy showing a flat radial abundance
distribution in its interstellar gas, a behavior generally observed in
magellanic and irregular galaxies. We have attempted to reproduce this flat
abundance distribution using a multiphase chemical evolution model, which has
been previously used sucessfully to depict other spiral galaxies along the
Hubble morphological sequence. We found that it is not possible to reproduce
the flat radial abundance distribution in NGC 1313, and at the same time, be
consistent with observed radial distributions of other key parameters such the
surface gas density and star formation profiles. We conclude that a more
complicated galactic evolution model including radial flows, and possibly mass
loss due to supernova explosions and winds, is necessary to explain the
