    Is there a correlation between self-reported level of activity and observed physical performance in elderly women?

    The aim of the study was to verify the degree of association between self-reported level of physical activity and observed physical performance of aged women. Thirty-seven women (mean aged 72.7±5.99 years old) were selected by looking up admission records in a reference centre for physical rehabilitation. The Human Activity Profile (HAP) was used to measure activity level; and, for direct observation of physical performance, the six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the 30-second chair-stand test were applied. A statistically significant (p=0.01), weak positive correlation (r=0.41) was found between HAP scores and 6MWT values; and an association trend was noticed between the classification of activity level and the 6MWT variable (p=0.08). Also, a significant (p=0.02), weak positive correlation (r=0.36) was found between HAP scores and results of the 30-second chair stand test. It may be said there is a correlation, though weak, between self-reported and observed levels of physical performance among the elderly here studied. Further research should address aged community dwellers - not only rehabilitation patients - in order to assess a possible under or overestimation of the physical activity level in self-reported evaluations.Este estudo visou verificar se havia associação entre o nível de atividade físico-funcional auto-referido e o desempenho físico de idosas em centro de reabilitação. Foram selecionadas 37 mulheres idosas (com em média 72,7±5,9 anos) pelas fichas de admissão em serviço de atividade física de um centro de referência em reabilitação. Para a avaliação do nível de atividade física auto-referido empregou-se o Perfil de Atividade Humana (PAH); na observação direta de desempenho físico aplicaram-se os testes de caminhada em 6 minutos (TC6') e levantar da cadeira em 30 segundos (TSL30). Foi encontrada correlação positiva fraca (r=0,41) e estatisticamente significante (p=0,01) entre os valores do PAH e o TC6'; e uma tendência de associação entre a classificação do nível de atividade e a variável categórica TC6' (p=0,08). Também foi encontrada correlação positiva fraca (r=0,36) e estatisticamente significante (p=0,02) entre o PAH e o TSL30. Pode-se afirmar que o auto-relato de nível de atividade física das idosas estudadas correlaciona-se, porém fracamente, ao desempenho físico observado. Sugerem-se novas pesquisas com amostras representativas da população idosa em uma comunidade, não apenas de pacientes de centro de reabilitação, para averiguar possíveis tendências à subestimação ou superestimação do nível de atividade física em avaliações auto-referidas.UNIFESP-EPM Lar Escola São FranciscoUNIFESP, EPM, Lar Escola São FranciscoSciEL

    A mind-mapping front-end for text writing

    Writing is a challenging task especially for graduate students, who are often required to produce scientific writing. Mind maps help to organize ideas and are an essential tool in the planning phase of writing. Software tools have been developed to support mind-mapping, but in our research we have not found tools offering specific support for writing activities. In this paper we introduce planTEXT, a mind-mapping tool for text writing and describe its front-end architecture.     Oral and craniofacial manifestations of mucopolysaccharidoses

    Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are a group of inherited metabolic disorders caused by the deficiency of lysosomal enzymes necessary for the degradation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Non-degraded GAGs accumulate inside the lysosomes and compromise cell function in different tissues and organs. This accumulation causes progressive and multisystemic damage, leading to a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, including oral and craniofacial manifestations. This work aims, therefore, to conduct a literature review that promotes specific knowledge regarding the oral and craniofacial manifestations of MPS. The results converged to a variability of alterations, among them facial dysmorphism, macroglossia, lingual protrusion, anterior open bite, dental caries, gingival inflammation, enamel hypoplasia, taurodontism, condylar hypoplasia and presence of dentigerouscysts. Preventive and interceptive actions in oral health are used as a means of improving oral hygiene and reducing oral problems.     Financial indicators, informational environment of emerging markets and stock returns

    Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the informational environment on the relevance of accounting information in companies traded in stock exchanges of emerging markets. Design/methodology/approach – For this purpose, the authors calculated indicators based on figures derived from the financial statements and variables that sought to capture the influence of the economic and institutional environment. The sample consisted of publicly traded companies from 20 countries classified as emerging by Standard & Poors. Macroeconomic information was obtained through the International Country Risk Guide database. The analysis period ranged from 2004 to 2013, excluding missing data, variables considered as outliers, besides the exclusion of data from companies that presented negative equity. Findings – It was observed that the financial variables presented signs consistent with the literature, except for the price-to-book variable and the asset change variable. The inclusion of variables related to the accounting informational environment offered evidence that the more opaque the accounting environment in the country, the lesser the ability of the profits to portray the variations of stock returns. The variable that captured the adoption of international standards was consistent with expectations, i.e. the adoption of international standards would increase the quality of accounting information, showing a positive signal. Moreover, the variable aggressiveness of the earnings was statistically significant and negative, consistent with the literature. Research limitations/implications – The variables earnings smoothing and aversion to losses did not show the expected behaviour though, highlighting the possible limitations of these proxies used to capture the opacity of the earnings. Originality/value – When institutional moderators were included, it was observed that the adoption of the IFRS standards positively affected the relationship, which is more relevant when the accounting figures were under its aegis. Recently, countless nations’ transition to international accounting standards has been justified by the need to use high-quality reporting standards. The research sought to contribute to strengthen this dimension, presenting evidence that the dummy variable included to capture the adoption of international standards had a positive effect on the relationship

Com início em 2014, o PIBID Pedagogia abarca vinte e seis acadêmicos bolsistas, quatro professoras supervisoras, duas professoras coordenadoras e uma colaboradora. Insere-se em três escolas da rede municipal de ensino de Ponta Grossa, sendo uma escola que oferta a Educação infantil e os Anos Iniciais, um Centro de Educação Infantil e uma escola que oferta os Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental. Assim, o projeto abrange as classes com crianças a partir dos três anos de idade até o 5o ano do Ensino Fundamental. A partir desse projeto, a aprendizagem da docência é vivenciada pela relação entre alfabetização e letramento, num continuum, envolvendo a articulação entre Educação Infantil e Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamenta
