Varios autores han observado que un aumento en la disponibilidad de nutrientes puede alterar el reparto de energía en las plantas, en detrimento de los sistemas defensivos. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo determinar el efecto de la fertilización de establecimiento sobre el desarrollo del sistema de canales resiníferos en Pinus pinaster. Mediante histología en brinzales de 3 savias sometidos a dos ensayos familia x fertilización se cuantificó la densidad y el área de los canales resiníferos del floema y del xilema tanto en el tallo principal como en ramas laterales en dos ensayos familia x fertilización. Se observó un efecto significativo de la fertilización en el desarrollo de los canales resiníferos del floema (p<0,05), con valores de 0,45 y 0,36 canales.mm-2 para brinzales no fertilizados y sí fertilizados, respectivamente. Este efecto no se observó en las variables del xilema. La densidad de canales resiníferos en el xilema fue significativamente diferente entre las dos parcelas estudiadas, siendo mayor en la atacada por el curculiónido Hylobius abietis. Por último, la relación tallo-rama de las variables cuantificadas no fue lo suficientemente consistente como para utilizar los canales en ramas de P. pinaster como indicadores de los canales en el tronco principal.Este trabajo se ha realizado bajo financiación del proyecto INIA-RTA05-173.Peer reviewe

    On the processing time for detection of Skype traffic

Cutanda-Rodríguez, "On the processing time for detection of Skype traffic", in 7th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference, IWCMC 2011, p. 1784 - 1788The last few years have witnessed VoIP applications gaining a tremendous popularity and Skype, in particular, is leading this continuous expansion. Unfortunately, Skype follows a closed source and proprietary design, and typically uses encryption mechanisms, making it very difficult to identify its presence from a traffic aggregate. Several algorithms and approaches have been proposed to perform such task with promising results in terms of accuracy. However, such approaches typically require significant computation resources and it is unlikely that they can be deployed in nowadays high-speed networks. In this light, this paper focuses on cutting the processing cost of algorithms to detect Skype traffic. We have conveniently tuned a previous well-validated algorithm and we have assessed its performance. To this end, we have used real traces from public repositories, from a Spanish 3G operator, and synthetic traces. Our results show that a single process can detect Skype traffic at 1 Gbps rates reading replayed real traces directly from a NIC. Even more, 3.7 Gbps are achieved reading from traces previously allocated in memory using a single process and 45 Gbps using 16 concurrent processes. This fact paves the way for 10 Gbps processing in commodity hardware

    Molecular line emission in NGC 1068 imaged with ALMA: I. An AGN-driven outflow in the dense molecular gas

    Based on observations carried out with ALMA in Cycle 0.-- et al.[Aims]: We investigate the fueling and the feedback of star formation and nuclear activity in NGC 1068, a nearby (D = 14 Mpc) Seyfert 2 barred galaxy, by analyzing the distribution and kinematics of the molecular gas in the disk. We aim to understand if and how gas accretion can self-regulate. [Methods]: We have used the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) to map the emission of a set of dense molecular gas (n(H2) ' 1056 cm3) tracers (CO(3-2), CO(6-5), HCN(4-3), HCO+(4-3), and CS(7-6)) and their underlying continuum emission in the central r ∼ 2 kpc of NGC 1068 with spatial resolutions ∼0:3000:500 (∼20-35 pc for the assumed distance of D = 14 Mpc). [Results]: The sensitivity and spatial resolution of ALMA give an unprecedented detailed view of the distribution and kinematics of the dense molecular gas (n(H2) ≈ 1056cm3) in NGC 1068. Molecular line and dust continuum emissions are detected from a r ∼ 200 pc off-centered circumnuclear disk (CND), from the 2.6 kpc-diameter bar region, and from the r ∼ 1:3 kpc starburst (SB) ring. Most of the emission in HCO+, HCN, and CS stems from the CND. Molecular line ratios show dramatic order-of-magnitude changes inside the CND that are correlated with the UV/X-ray illumination by the active galactic nucleus (AGN), betraying ongoing feedback. We used the dust continuum fluxes measured by ALMA together with NIR/MIR data to constrain the properties of the putative torus using CLUMPY models and found a torus radius of 20+6 10 pc. The Fourier decomposition of the gas velocity field indicates that rotation is perturbed by an inward radial flow in the SB ring and the bar region. However, the gas kinematics from r ∼ 50 pc out to r ∼ 400 pc reveal a massive (Mmol ∼ 2:7+0:9 1:2 × 107 M) outflow in all molecular tracers. The tight correlation between the ionized gas outflow, the radio jet, and the occurrence of outward motions in the disk suggests that the outflow is AGN driven. [Conclusions]: The molecular outflow is likely launched when the ionization cone of the narrow line region sweeps the nuclear disk. The outflow rate estimated in the CND, dM=dt ∼ 63+21 37 M yr1, is an order of magnitude higher than the star formation rate at these radii, confirming that the outflow is AGN driven. The power of the AGN is able to account for the estimated momentum and kinetic luminosity of the outflow. The CND mass load rate of the CND outflow implies a very short gas depletion timescale of ≤1 Myr.     Spectroscopy of proton-unbound nuclei by tracking their decay products in-flight: One- and two-proton decays of 15F, 16Ne, and 19Na

    14 páginas, 23 figuras, 1 tabla.-- et al.A powerful method of investigating proton-unbound nuclear states by tracking their decay products in flight is discussed in detail. To verify the method, four known levels in 15F, 16Ne, and 19Na were investigated by measuring the angular correlations between protons and the respective heavy-ion fragments stemming from the precursor decays in flight. The parent nuclei of interest were produced in nuclear reactions of one-neutron removal from 17Ne and 20Mg projectiles at energies of 410–450 A MeV. The trajectories of the respective decay products, 14O + p + p and 18Ne + p + p, were measured by applying a tracking technique with microstrip detectors. These data were used to reconstruct the angular correlations of the fragments, which provided information on energies and widths of the parent states. In addition for reproducing properties of known states, evidence for hitherto unknown excited states in 15F and 16Ne was found. This tracking technique has an advantage in studies of exotic nuclei beyond the proton drip line measuring the resonance energies and widths with a high precision although by using low-intensity beams and very thick targets.This work has been supported by Contract EURONS Nos.     Persistence of Toxic Activity of Fermentation Extracts from Bacillus thuringiensis

    This study was carried out to determine the persistence of toxicity of fermentation extracts of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis after more than three decades of storage. For this purpose, a population of Aedes aegypti was established. The mortality rate of 20 spore-crystal extracts purified using the acetone-lactose coprecipitation method was measured and evaluated by bioassays according to a modified WHO protocol. The extracts with the highest mortality rate were determined in triplicate by their LD50 and LD98. All extracts showed toxicity at the highest tested dose (1000 ppm) and some, such as strains 3260 and 3501, still killed larvae at doses as low as 0.01 ppm. These data are surprising because no study on the activity of B. thuringiensis toxic proteins after such a long storage time has been reported
