    Mechanical Design of the HGCal Wedges with Thermal Gradient

    After the discovery of the Higgs Boson, the purpose of the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), seemed to have been achieved. Despite the fact that the Standard Model apparently complies with most experimental data up to this day, the majority of particle physicists feel that it is not a complete framework [1]. Therefore, there are still many unresolved problems in the physics of elementary particles. That is the reason why, in 2013, the European Strategy for Particle Physics announced its update. The High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project aims to increase luminosity by a factor of 10 beyond the LHC’s design. The higher the luminosity, the more data the experiments can gather to allow scientists to observe rare processes. Its development depends on several technological innovations, like the High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCal), a major upgrade of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector. [2] This project analyses the design and optimisation processes of the supports (wedges) which join the calorimeter (HGCal) to the related parts of the CMS detector. Specifically, the study focuses on the intermediate wedges. The main challenge is to create an optimal configuration for both the operational (vertical) and the assembly (horizontal) position. For this reason, a series of mechanical, magnetic and thermal considerations must be taken into account. This includes withstanding a mass of 200 tons and 50 °� of thermal difference. In order to achieve this goal, it is first necessary to analyse the functionality of the detector. This in-depth research allows a precise problem definition. Later, the preliminary design of the intermediate wedges is studied. By analysing the finite element results, the optimisation steps are established. At the end, the final version, the results of its analyses and some suggestions for the building process are presented. In the final result analyses, a hybrid configuration of fixed and hinged intermediate wedges was presented. In the operational position, stresses and vertical load values were lowered. In addition, a thermal analysis concluded that the heat transfer was sufficient for meeting the given requirements. In the assembly analysis, it was verified that the supports are not buckling or permanently deforming

    Cómo son los personajes inmigrantes en las series españolas emitidas en plataformas de streaming

    Introduction. The number of fiction series has increased considerably with the development of streaming platforms. At the same time, in recent years Spanish society has been transformed towards multiculturalism, as a result of new migratory processes.  However, this new audiovisual scenario has hardly been the subject of research studies, since the representation on platforms constitutes an area scarcely explored in the Spanish academic context. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyze the current representation of immigration in television series broadcast on the main streaming platforms. Methodology: For this purpose, a content analysis was carried out on 38 Spanish-created series, broadcast between 2017 and 2020, and on a total of 1509 characters (n=1509). Results: Among the main results of this work, it was found that immigrant characters are underrepresented and, when present, they hardly occupy leading roles. Together with the scarce presence of these types of characters, stereotypical features and characteristics in their forms of representation are appreciated. Discussion: Despite the presence of foreign/immigrant characters in Spanish production series, they are still a minority and their representation is biased and often stereotypical, as reflected, for example, by the significant relationship between the nationality of the character and the socioeconomic level with which he/she is represented.  For all these reasons, the new sphere of Spanish fiction series does not seem to reflect the Spanish socio-cultural reality through its plots and characters.Introduction. Sin embargo, este nuevo escenario audiovisual apenas ha sido objeto de estudios de investigación, pues la representación en plataformas constituye un área escasamente explorada en el contexto académico español. Por eso, esta investigación tiene como principal objetivo analizar la representación actual de la inmigración en las series de televisión emitidas en las principales plataformas de streaming. Metodología: Para ello, se ha efectuado un análisis de contenido a 38 series de creación española, emitidas entre los años 2017 y 2020, y a un total de 1509 personajes (n=1509). Resultados: Entre los principales resultados de este trabajo se ha comprobado que los personajes inmigrantes están infrarrepresentados y, cuando están presentes, apenas ocupan papeles protagonistas. Junto con la escasa presencia de este tipo de personajes se aprecian rasgos y características estereotípicas en sus formas de representación. Discusión: La presencia de personajes extranjeros/inmigrantes en las series de producción española sigue siendo minoritaria y su representación está sesgada y es, a menudo, estereotípica, como refleja, por ejemplo, la relación significativa entre la nacionalidad del personaje y el nivel socioeconómico con el que se representa.  Por todo ello, la nueva esfera de series de ficción españolas no parece reflejar la realidad sociocultural española a través de sus tramas y personajes

    Mechanochemical Aza-Vinylogous Povarov Reactions for the Synthesis of Highly Functionalized 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinolines and 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydro-1,5-Naphthyridines

    The aza-vinylogous Povarov reaction between aromatic amines, α-ketoaldehydes or α-formylesters and α,β-unsaturated dimethylhydrazones was carried out in a sequential three-component fashion under mechanochemical conditions. Following extensive optimization work, the reaction was performed on a vibratory ball mill operating at 20 Hz and using zirconium oxide balls and milling jar, and afforded 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- 1,5-naphthyridines functionalized at C-2, C-4 and also at C-6, in the latter case. This protocol generally afforded the target compounds in good to excellent yields and diastereoselectivities. A comparison of representative examples with the results obtained under conventional conditions revealed that the mechanochemical protocol affords faster Povarov reactions in comparable yields using a solvent-less environment

    Injectable Hydrogels Based on Pluronic/Water Systems Filled with Alginate Microparticles for Biomedical Applications

    A (model) composite system for drug delivery was developed based on a thermoresponsive hydrogel loaded with microparticles. We used Pluronic F127 hydrogel as the continuous phase and alginate microparticles as the dispersed phase of this composite system. It is well known that Pluronic F127 forms a gel when added to water in an appropriate concentration and in a certain temperature range. Pluronic F127 hydrogel may be loaded with drug and injected, in its sol state, to act as a drug delivery system in physiological environment. A rheological characterization allowed the most appropriate concentration of Pluronic F127 (15.5 wt%) and appropriate alginate microparticles contents (5 and 10 wt%) to be determined. Methylene blue (MB) was used as model drug to perform drug release studies in MB loaded Pluronic hydrogel and in MB loaded alginate microparticles/Pluronic hydrogel composite system. The latter showed a significantly slower MB release than the former (10 times), suggesting its potential in the development of dual cargo release systems either for drug delivery or tissue engineering

    Enabling Process Mining in Aircraft Manufactures: Extracting Event Logs and Discovering Processes from Complex Data

    Process mining is employed by organizations to completely understand and improve their processes and to detect possible deviations from expected behavior. Process discovery uses event logs as input data, which describe the times of the actions that occur the traces. Currently, Internet-of-Things environments generate massive distributed and not always structured data, which brings about new complex scenarios since data must first be transformed in order to be handled by process min ing tools. This paper shows the success case of application of a solution that permits the transformation of complex semi-structured data of an assembly-aircraft process in order to create event logs that can be man aged by the process mining paradigm. A Domain-Specific Language and a prototype have been implemented to facilitate the extraction of data into the unified traces of an event log. The implementation performed has been applied within a project in the aeronautic industry, and promis ing results have been obtained of the log extraction for the discovery of processes and the resulting improvement of the assembly-aircraft process.Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología RTI2018-094283-B-C3

    Social Responsibility among University Students: An Empirical Study of Spanish Samples

    The Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (UFV) has developed an educational project that is unique in Europe which integrates social responsibility as an obligatory subject across all university courses. The goal of this course is to heighten university students’ awareness of social commitment and responsibility so that all individuals gain an understanding of the ideas presented and subsequently adopt these values, making them their own and applying them in their future professional life. Our aim is to evaluate the impact of this education on our students. To do this, we used a valid, reliable tool that with a personal questionnaire, (sample size: 757 students) allowed the information to be collected at two different moments in time (pretest and posttest). The results show that the social responsibility module has a significant impact on students with the effect varying depending on the degree being studied

El cambio global afecta al árbol individual, a su fisiología, crecimiento y composición de sus tejidos, ya su adecuación evolutiva respecto a los individuos vecinos de la misma población. Estos cambios afectan a su vez a las interacciones entre los árboles de las diferentes especies y causan cambios en el ensamblaje de la comunidad y la composición del bosque. En último término, modifican el funcionamiento del ecosistema forestal afectando a la fijación y secuestro del carbono, las tasas de descomposición de la hojarasca y el ciclo de nutrientes.Peer reviewe

    El objetivo de esta red es la creación de un Cuaderno de ejercicios gramaticales de lengua árabe en el nivel A1 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCERL). Se justifica por la escasez de este tipo de materiales ajustados al MCERL, y su necesidad para la progresión en el aprendizaje de la competencia lingüística en contextos docentes presenciales, pero, sobre todo, no presenciales. Las características principales que se le han dado al Cuaderno, además de su ajuste al currículo de lengua árabe y al nivel A1 del MCERL, son: graduación de los ejercicios según dificultad; adecuado como material de autoaprendizaje sin profesor; de fácil ampliación, y trasladable a una plataforma digital. El Cuaderno será utilizado durante el próximo curso con los alumnos de lengua árabe del primer año de los grados de Estudios Árabes e Islámicos y de Traducción e Interpretación, para ser posteriormente ampliado en papel y/o adaptado a una plataforma virtual de enseñanza / aprendizaje, especialmente, Moodle UA
