    Influence of Nb-doping on the structural and electrical properties of lanthanum molybdates, La5.4MoO11.1

    Nowadays, hydrogen is receiving a great deal of attention as an energy carrier. Commonly, it is obtained by hydrocarbons reforming, such as natural gas, coal and biomass. However, the resulting hydrogen needs to be purified to remove by-products and impurities, increasing the production costs. An alternative for hydrogen production is proton-conducting ceramics, where hydrogen separation takes place via a chemical potential gradient across the membrane.1, 2 In this work, Nb-doped La6MoO12--based compounds have been investigated as part of a new family of materials very competitive as SOFC electrolyte and hydrogen separation membranes.3 These materials, La5.4Mo1-xNbxO11.1-x/2 (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 y 0.20) were synthesized by the freeze-drying precursor method and calcination conditions have been optimized to obtain single phases. A complete characterization has been carried out using X-Ray powder diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The total conductivity was determined by complex impedance spectroscopy at different atmospheres. Different polymorphs are obtained as a function of the cooling rate and the dopant amount. The samples cooled by quenching are cubic with a fluorite-type structure (Fm3 ̅m) and the ones cooled at 50 y 0.5 ºC•min-1 are rhombohedral (R1 and R2 polymorphs). For niobium contents higher than x = 0.10 the R1 polymorph is stabilised at cooling rates equal or inferior to 50 ºC•min-1. For all three series, the incorporation of niobium into La5.4MoO11.1 increases the conductivity, reaching the best values for x=0.10 and the sample obtained by quenching.Universidad de Málaga.     Kilo-instruction processors: overcoming the memory wall

    Historically, advances in integrated circuit technology have driven improvements in processor microarchitecture and led to todays microprocessors with sophisticated pipelines operating at very high clock frequencies. However, performance improvements achievable by high-frequency microprocessors have become seriously limited by main-memory access latencies because main-memory speeds have improved at a much slower pace than microprocessor speeds. Its crucial to deal with this performance disparity, commonly known as the memory wall, to enable future high-frequency microprocessors to achieve their performance potential. To overcome the memory wall, we propose kilo-instruction processors-superscalar processors that can maintain a thousand or more simultaneous in-flight instructions. Doing so means designing key hardware structures so that the processor can satisfy the high resource requirements without significantly decreasing processor efficiency or increasing energy consumption.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Las técnicas publicitarias BTL son un medio ingenioso y creativo que llega más directamente a un nicho de mercado determinado. El objetivo principal de la investigación fue proponer estrategias publicitarias BTL para incrementar las ventas en el Hostal ALEXYA de la ciudad de Chiclayo. Se realizó un estudio de tipo Descriptivo y Propositivo, con un diseño de estudio no experimental. Los involucrados en este estudio son clientes del Hostal Alexya, quienes brindaron la información necesaria para la presente investigación. Los resultados muestran que el Hostal Alexya no utiliza estrategias publicitarias para incrementar sus ventas, además se ha descubierto que existe desconocimiento de los propietarios en los beneficios de una buena estrategia publicitaria como el BTL que es una forma directa de llegar a los clientes potenciales. Finalmente se ha identificado que las formas de publicidad BTL para el Hostal son: a través de las redes sociales y el correo electrónico, también está el marketing móvil que podría reforzarse con los códigos QR como herramienta de ventas.Tesi

    Characterizing the rate of spread of large wildfires in emerging fire environments of northwestern Europe using visible infrared imaging radiometer suite active fire data

    In recent years fires of greater magnitude have been documented throughout northwest Europe. With several climate projections indicating future increases in fire activity in this temperate area, it is imperative to identify the status of fire in this region. This study unravels unknowns about the state of the fire regime in northwest Europe by characterizing one of the key aspects of fire behavior, the rate of spread (ROS). Using an innovative approach to cluster Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) hotspots into fire perimeter isochrones to derive ROS, we identify the effects of land cover and season on the rate of spread of 102 landscape fires that occurred between 2012 and 2022. Results reveal significant differences between land cover types, and there is a clear peak of ROS and burned area in the months of March and April. Median ROS within these peak months is approximately 0.09 km h−1 during a 12 h overpass, and 66 % of the burned area occurs in this spring period. Heightened ROS and burned area values persist in the bordering months of February and May, suggesting that these months may present the extent of the main fire season in northwest Europe.     A techno-economic and life cycle assessment for the production of green methanol from CO2: catalyst and process bottlenecks

    The success of catalytic schemes for the large-scale valorization of CO2 does not only depend on the development of active, selective and stable catalytic materials but also on the overall process design. Here we present a multidisciplinary study (from catalyst to plant and techno-economic/lifecycle analysis) for the production of green methanol from renewable H2 and CO2. We combine an in-depth kinetic analysis of one of the most promising recently reported methanol-synthesis catalysts (InCo) with a thorough process simulation and techno-economic assessment. We then perform a life cycle assessment of the simulated process to gauge the real environmental impact of green methanol production from CO2. Our results indicate that up to 1.75 ton of CO2 can be abated per ton of produced methanol only if renewable energy is used to run the process, while the sensitivity analysis suggest that either rock-bottom H2 prices (1.5 kg−1)orsevereCO2taxation(300 kg−1) or severe CO2 taxation (300 per ton) are needed for a profitable methanol plant. Besides, we herein highlight and analyze some critical bottlenecks of the process. Especial attention has been paid to the contribution of H2 to the overall plant costs, CH4 trace formation, and purity and costs of raw gases.     Cardiovascular involvement and manifestations of systemic Chikungunya virus infection: A systematic review [version 2; referees: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

    Background: In the last three years, chikungunya virus disease has been spreading, affecting particularly the Americas, producing more than two million cases. In this setting, not only new disease-related epidemiological patterns have been found, but also new clinical findings have been reported by different research groups. These include findings on the cardiovascular system, including clinical, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic alterations. No previous systemic reviews have been found in major databases about it. Methods: We performed a systematic review looking for reports about cardiovascular compromise during chikungunya disease. Cardiac compromise is not so common in isolated episodes; but countries where chikungunya virus is an epidemic should be well informed about this condition. We used 6 bibliographical databases as resources: Medline/Pubmed, Embase, ScienceDirect, ClinicalKey, Ovid and SciELO. Dengue reports on cardiovascular compromise were included as well, to compare both arbovirus’ organic compromises. Articles that delved mainly into the rheumatic articular and cutaneous complications were not considered, as they were not in line with the purpose of this study. The type of articles included were reviews, meta-analyses, case-controls, cohort studies, case reports and case series. This systematic review does not reach or performed a meta-analysis. Results: Originally based on 737 articles, our reviewed selected 40 articles with 54.2% at least mentioning CHIKV cardiovascular compromise within the systemic compromise. Cardiovascular manifestations can be considered common and have been reported in France, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Colombia, Venezuela and USA, including mainly, but no limited to: hypotension, shock and circulatory collapse, Raynaud phenomenon, arrhythmias, murmurs, myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy, congestive insufficiency, heart failure and altered function profile (Troponins, CPK). Conclusions: Physicians should be encouraged to keep divulgating reports on the cardiovascular involvement of chikungunya virus disease, to raise awareness and ultimately encourage suitable diagnosis and intervention worldwide. More research about cardiovascular involvement and manifestations of systemic Chikungunya virus infection is urgently needed

    A pre-correlation RFI mitigation algorithm for L-band interferometric radiometers

    Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is a major concern for both real and synthetic aperture radiometers. After the lessons learnt from SMOS, ESA is preparing the next generation of L-band interferometric radiometers with RFI mitigation integrated into the cross-correlators. This work presents a preliminary design and results of a pre-correlation RFI mitigation algorithm tailored for interferometric radiometers.
