To assess the efficacy of post-emergence herbicide programs in “Lolium perenne” L. populations glyphosate resistant (GR), a field experiment was carried out in a Douro vineyard (North Portugal) in 2014. A random block design (RBD) experiment with 11 treatments and three replicates was implemented. Fruit size, cluster number and grape weight were determined. Quality parameters (pH, total polyphenols anthocyanin content and color intensity) were also analysed. Analyses of variance (ANOVAs) were used to test the effects of weed cover on grape yield and quality. Tukey test was used to determine the differences among group means. The results show that weed cover affects crop productivity but it does not affect fruit composition, and therefore to wine quality.
Analysis of the ecological preferences of spontaneous vegetation. Case study applied to winter cereals
Study of autumn-winter weeds in Portugal and its ecological preferences
The conclusion of the dam project located in Alqueva, in Southern Portugal, has
resulted in a significant increase of new irrigated areas, since 2006. This has meant that, in
recent years, there have been progressive flora changes in farming systems traditionally
implemented in the Alentejo region. The present work has analyzed the weed flora in an
early stage of these changes, and the impact of environmental factors on the distribution of
natural vegetation under Mediterranean climate conditions in the influence area of Alqueva.
In 2007, 105 floristic surveys were carried out in autumn-winter crop plots or other soil use,
and 264 species were identified. Families with higher expression were: Asteraceae, Poaceae,
and Fabaceae. Only three species have been identified in more than half of farms, Avena sterilis,
Phalaris minor and Lolium rigidum and they were part of the 15 species that revealed high and
very high infestation degrees. Soil texture and extractable phosphorus have been determined
as active ecological factors, according to the method of ecological profiles and Mutual
Information. Therefore, these factores were those with the greatest influence on the species
distribution. L. rigidum distribution showed to be associated with medium soil texture and
A. sterilis distribution also showed to be associated with medium and fine soil texture soils,
without showing ecological preference by extractable phosphorus. The distribution of P. minor
was not related to the soil texture but showed preference for soils with medium phosphorus

Development of sandwich panels for multi-functional strengthening of RC buildings: characterization of constituent materials and shear interaction of panel assemblies
This paper presents an experimental and numerical study aiming at the development of a sustainable and
multifunctional composite sandwich panel for the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings
from the 1960s to the mid-1980s. The sandwich panel, which was designed for the structural, thermal
and acoustic refurbishment of building facades, comprises three main components: (i) thin outer layers
of Recycled Steel Fibre Reinforced micro–Concrete (RSFRC) that fulfil the strength, ductility and durability
requirements of the panel; (ii) a lightweight core made of polystyrene that provides thermal insulation;
and (iii) internally distributed glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) connectors that join the different layers of the panel, providing an adequate structural behaviour to the composite system. The mechanical
characterization tests highlighted the viability of using RSFRC for the production of structural sandwich
facade panels, as relatively high post-cracking tensile capacity was obtained for thin RSFRC layers.
Pushout and pullout tests were carried out on intermediate-scale specimens representative of the sandwich panel solution for assessing the overall composite behaviour of the sandwich panels and analysing
the influence of the type of core insulation layer (expanded/extruded polystyrene cores, with different
surface finishing), of the anchoring conditions (25 and 35 mm of embedment depth) and diameter of
the GFRP connectors (8 and 12 mm). These tests showed that the structural GFRP connectors with diameters of 8 and 12 mm are able to ensure shear load transfer between RSFRC layers, exhibiting better composite behaviour when combined with anchorage depths of 25 and 35 mm, respectively. The numerical
part of this study aimed at modelling the failure mechanisms observed at the interface between RSFRC
and polystyrene, showing good agreement between experimental and numerical results, with important
conclusions being drawn regarding cohesion and friction angle between these materials. The first author wishes to acknowledge the financial support

e qualidade do vinho.
98% do total.

Feedstock recycling of polyethylene over AlTUD mesoporous materials
The catalytic degradation of high density polyethylene (HDPE) was investigated using AlTUD-1 as catalyst, a recently discovered mesoporous
aluminosilicate. The catalytic activity of AlTUD-1 was evaluated by TGA measurements, using a polymer/catalyst ratio of 9:1. AlTUD-1 has
a Brønsted acidic behaviour, three-dimensional (3D) connectivities and a pore diameters between 2 and 50 nm. Compared to HY zeolite, the large
pore size of AlTUD-1 enhances a selective catalytic degradation of the polymer and prevents rapid deactivation. Moreover, the apparent activation
energy of polymer cracking is much lower than with HY zeolite. For these reasons, AlTUD-1 is a potentially interesting catalyst for the catalytic
cracking of plastic waste into liquid fuels
