    Technological Innovation Inputs, Outputs and Performance: the moderating role of Family Involvement in Management

    The objective of this article is to study the relationship between R&D intensity and continuous technological innovation and between technological innovation outcomes and sustained firm performance. We also analyse the moderating role of family management in both relationships. The results show that R&D intensity has a positive effect on continuous technological innovation and family management moderates negatively this relationship. Our findings also suggest that the influence of the family management significantly contribute to improve the effect of the technological innovation on sustained performance. It seems that some family-managed firms characteristics (nepotism,…) could hinder the efficient conversion of R&D expenditures into continuous technological innovation outcomes, but once family-managed firms have obtained technological innovation outcomes, they become riskier and put all its social capital to work to improve the conversion of innovation outcomes into performance. Therefore, family involvement in management looks influence technological innovation efficiency

    Este trabajo tiene que ver con aspectos conceptuales de la empresa familiar (EF) y su impacto en la investigación. Su objetivo es servir de guía en el desarrollo de trabajos empíricos que pretenden disociar la EF de la empresa no familiar (EnF) mediante la utilización de bases de datos, particularmente contables y, más concretamente, en el caso español, con la base SABI. En él se pone de manifiesto la importancia, en el ámbito empírico, de buscar un mecanismo que nos permita identificar la EF de forma eficiente, así como las dificultades existentes para ello con el uso de SABI. Trabajar con diferentes criterios de selección y el uso de apellidos nos permite proponer una tipología de EF.

    Experimental Evaluation of Design Procedures for Shear Strength of Deep Reinfoced Concrete Beams

    In this paper, results from the monotonic testing of four reinforced concrete deep beams are presented. The behavior of the deep beams is described in terms of cracking pattern, load-versus-deflection response, failure mode, and strains in steel reinforcement and concrete. Despite different failure modes, the failure loads and corresponding ultimate deflections were similar in all four specimens. Yielding of both longitudinal and transverse reinforcement occurred prior to failure. Based on the test results, the shear design procedures contained in the ACI 318-99 Code and Appendix A of the ACI 318-02 Code were evaluated. Both design procedures yielded conservative predictions of the shear strength of the single-span deep beams

    Diseño de la plataforma mecánica de una mesa cartesiana xyz automatizada

    This article shows the mechanical design process of an automated XYZ table and its manufacturing process. The design stages are illustrated in three steps: preliminary (conceptual), basic and detailed. The preliminary stage deals with the search for information and the definition of specifications and constraints that define the scope of the design. In the basic stage subsystems are identified and several constructive solutions defined for each of them. In the detailed design stage calculations and the use of CAD/CAE tools for the definition of final details that allow the construction are discussed. Finally the results of the construction stage are shown. The developed equipment is part of the implementation of a laboratory of robot manipulators, for the experimental support of undergraduate and graduate curricula in Robotics, Dynamics and Control Systems.En este artículo se muestra el proceso de diseño mecánico de una mesa automatizada XYZ y su proceso de fabricación. Se ilustran cada una de las etapas de diseño: preliminar (conceptual), básico y detallado. En la etapa preliminar se aborda la búsqueda de información y la definición de especificaciones y restricciones que definen los alcances del diseño. En la etapa básica se identifican los diferentes subsistemas y se definen soluciones constructivas para cada uno de ellos. En la etapa detallada se abordan los cálculos y el uso de herramientas CAD/CAE que permiten definir los detalles finales que posibilitan la construcción del equipo. Finalmente, se muestran los resultados después de ejecutada la construcción. El equipo desarrollado hace parte de la implementación de un laboratorio de manipuladores para el apoyo experimental de los programas de pregrado y posgrado en Robótica, Dinámica de Sistemas y Control

    Richness and Current Status of Gymnosperm Communities in Aguascalientes, Mexico

    The gymnosperm diversity of Aguascalientes, Mexico, is presented. Fifteen species from five genera and three families are reported, two of Coniferales (Cupressaceae and Pinaceae) and one of Gnetales (Ephedraceae). Pinus is the most diverse and abundant genus with seven species. The most abundant species is P. teocote, while P. strobiformis is the scarcest. Juniperus is the next most diverse genus, represented by four species, with J. deppeana the most abundant and J. durangensis the scarcest. Cupressus lusitanica, Taxodium mucronatum and Ephedra compacta are each the sole representatives of their genera. Most conifers occupy the mountainous part of the state, forming temperate forest; exceptions are Taxodium, which is located on the margins of permanent streams, and J. coahuilensis, which is found in the low parts of the Aguascalientes Valley over calcareous soils in the northern part of the state. Ephedra is distributed in the northeast part of Aguascalientes in microphyll desert scrub. The current status of the gymnosperm communities in the state of Aguascalientes is discussed
