    O Rio Grande do Sul é um dos maiores produtores de grãos do Brasil, sendo a maioria das culturas conduzida em sistemas não irrigados, tornando-lhes extremamente dependentes das condições climáticas e do regime pluviométrico. Tal fato inspira diversas pesquisas na tentativa de caracterizar o comportamento espacial e temporal das precipitações. Dessa forma, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi estudar a variação espacial e temporal dos parâmetros alfa e beta da função gama para a geração de dados de precipitação pluvial diária no Estado. Os dados de precipitação pluviométrica foram obtidos junto à ANA - Agência Nacional de Águas. A modelagem da precipitação diária foi dividida em ocorrência e quantidade. Realizou-se a estimativa dos parâmetros alfa e beta da função gama a partir das séries históricas, seguida do ajuste desses parâmetros em função do tempo e do espaço e posterior comparação entre os valores estimados e os observados. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, conclui-se que a metodologia desenvolvida pode ser aplicada para a geração de séries sintéticas de precipitação pluvial diária nas diferentes estações pluviométricas do Rio Grande do Sul.Rio Grande do Sul is one of the largest grain producer states in Brazil, since most of the crops grown in non-irrigated systems, thus making them extremely dependent on the climatic conditions and on the pluviometric regime. This fact has inspired several research studies in the attempt of characterizing the spatial and temporal behavior of the rainfall. The objective of this research was to study the spatial and temporal variation of alpha and beta parameters of the gamma function for the generation of daily rainfall data in the state. The pluviometric precipitation data were obtained from the National Water Agency (ANA). The modeling of the daily rainfall was divided into the events of occurrence and quantity. Estimation of alpha and beta parameters of the gamma function was accomplished on the basis of historical series followed by the adjustment of these parameters as a function of time and space, and then the comparison between estimated and observed values. According to the results, one can conclude that the proposed methodology can be applied for the generation of synthetic series of daily rainfall in the different pluviometric stations of Rio Grande do Sul

    A Novel Cause-Effect Variable Analysis in Enterprise Architecture by Fuzzy Logic Techniques

    In this paper, or present a new integration approach for managing Information Technology variables within enterprise architecture in an integrated way. Additionially, a novel method based on fuzzy logic for cause-effect variable analysis is proposed as a useful support decision-making tool for companies in order to lmow the main actions they must perform for increasing their benefits. This is employed to assess the Integration Management System in Enterprises, based on Enterprise Architecture and Information Technology. We show as fuzzy logic plays an important role M this area due to these variables can be affected for multifactorial elements iinpregnated with uncertainty. The knowledge given by the experts is translated into dependence rules, Which have also been analyzed from a fuzzy point of view using a combination of two fuzzy techniques, namely, fuzzy relation equation theory and fuzzy graph. Firstly, fuzzy dependence rules are computed froth fuzzy relation equations and, secondly an analysis based on incidence subgraph is performed.     Exploring the Impact of Galaxy Interactions over Seven Billion Years with CAS

    We explore galaxy assembly over the last seven billion years by characterizing "normal" galaxies along the Hubble sequence, against strongly disturbed merging/interacting galaxies with the widely used CAS system of concentration (C), asymmetry (A), and 'clumpiness' (S) parameters, as well as visual classification. We analyze Hubble Space Telescope (HST) ACS images of ~4000 intermediate and high mass (> 10^9 solar masses) galaxies from the GEMS survey, one of the largest HST surveys conducted to date in two filters. We explore the effectiveness of the CAS criteria [A>S and A>~0.35] in separating normal and strongly disturbed galaxies at different redshifts, and quantify the recovery and contamination rate. We also compare the average star formation rate and the cosmic star formation rate density as a function of redshift between normal and interacting systems identified by CAS.Comment: ASP conference proceedings of 2007 Bash Symposium.     TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF OFF-GRID PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS FOR IRRIGATION

    ABSTRACT In rural areas, the electricity supply is affected by problems such as low quality and limited access in some regions. The use of renewable sources, with decentralized generation, can offer an alternative to the existing scenario. The objective of this work is to perform a technical and economic analysis of off-grid photovoltaic systems, without energy storage, intended for irrigation. Photovoltaic systems from different irrigation systems were sized, with power ratings from 0.736 to 29.44 kW. Their technical feasibility was determined based on the energy supply period and the availability of solar radiation as restriction variables. Economic feasibility was determined by the indicators of net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), benefit/cost ratio (B/C) and profitability index (PI). Feasible operation was found for irrigation systems with motors up to 11.04 kW; however, for systems that required higher powers, the number of operating hours available was less than the minimum required. NPV, IRR, B/C and PI showed increasing values as a function of increasing power. Thus, off-grid photovoltaic systems without energy storage are technically and economically feasible for systems with power of up to 11.04 kW

    Obscured star formation in intermediate-density environments:A Spitzer study of the Abell 901/902 supercluster

    We explore the amount of obscured star formation as a function of environment in the Abell 901/902 (A901/902) supercluster at z = 0.165 in conjunction with a field sample drawn from the A901 and CDFS fields, imaged with the Hubble Space Telescope as part of the Space Telescope A901/902 Galaxy Evolution Survey and Galaxy Evolution from Morphology and Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) Survey. We combine the combo-17 near-UV/optical SED with Spitzer 24 mu m photometry to estimate both the unobscured and obscured star formation in galaxies with M-* > 10(10) M-circle dot. We find that the star formation activity in massive galaxies is suppressed in dense environments, in agreement with previous studies. Yet, nearly 40% of the star-forming (SF) galaxies have red optical colors at intermediate and high densities. These red systems are not starbursting; they have star formation rates (SFRs) per unit stellar mass similar to or lower than blue SF galaxies. More than half of the red SF galaxies have low infrared-to-ultraviolet (IR-to-UV) luminosity ratios, relatively high Sersicindices, and they are equally abundant at all densities. They might be gradually quenching their star formation, possibly but not necessarily under the influence of gas-removing environmental processes. The other greater than or similar to 40% of the red SF galaxies have high IR-to-UV luminosity ratios, indicative of high dust obscuration. They have relatively high specific SFRs and are more abundant at intermediate densities. Our results indicate that while there is an overall suppression in the SF galaxy fraction with density, the small amount of star formation surviving the cluster environment is to a large extent obscured, suggesting that environmental interactions trigger a phase of obscured star formation, before complete quenching

    The Zurich Environmental Study (ZENS) of galaxies in groups along the cosmic web. V. properties and frequency of merging satellites and centrals in different environments

    We use the Zurich ENvironmental Study (ZENS) database to investigate the environmental dependence of the merger fraction Γ\Gamma and merging galaxy properties in a sample of ~1300 group galaxies with M>109.2MM>10^{9.2}M_\odot and 0.05<z<0.0585. In all galaxy mass bins investigated in our study, we find that Γ\Gamma decreases by a factor of ~2-3 in groups with halo masses MHALO>1013.5MM_{HALO}>10^{13.5} M_\odot relative to less massive systems, indicating a suppression of merger activity in large potential wells. In the fiducial case of relaxed groups only, we measure a variation ΔΓ/Δlog(MHALO)0.07\Delta\Gamma/\Delta \log (M_{HALO}) \sim - 0.07 dex1^{-1}, which is almost independent of galaxy mass and merger stage. At galaxy masses >1010.2M>10^{10.2} M_\odot, most mergers are dry accretions of quenched satellites onto quenched centrals, leading to a strong increase of Γ\Gamma with decreasing group-centric distance at these mass scales.Both satellite and central galaxies in these high mass mergers do not differ in color and structural properties from a control sample of nonmerging galaxies of equal mass and rank. At galaxy masses <1010.2M<10^{10.2} M_\odot, where we mostly probe satellite-satellite pairs and mergers between star-forming systems, close pairs (projected distance <1020<10-20 kpc) show instead 2×\sim2\times enhanced (specific) star formation rates and 1.5×\sim1.5\times larger sizes than similar mass, nonmerging satellites. The increase in both size and SFR leads to similar surface star-formation densities in the merging and control-sample satellite populations.Comment: Published in ApJ, 797, 12

    Luminous Satellites of Early-Type Galaxies I: Spatial Distribution

    We study the spatial distribution of faint satellites of intermediate redshift (0.1<z<0.8), early-type galaxies, selected from the GOODS fields. We combine high resolution HST images and state-of-the-art host subtraction techniques to detect satellites of unprecedented faintness and proximity to intermediate redshift host galaxies (up to 5.5 magnitudes fainter and as close as 0."5/2.5 kpc to the host centers). We model the spatial distribution of objects near the hosts as a combination of an isotropic, homogenous background/foreground population and a satellite population with a power law radial profile and an elliptical angular distribution. We detect a significant population of satellites, Ns =1.7 (+0.9,-0.8) that is comparable to the number of Milky Way satellites with similar host-satellite contrast.The average projected radial profile of the satellite distribution is isothermal, gamma_p= -1.0(+0.3,-0.4), which is consistent with the observed central mass density profile of massive early-type galaxies. Furthermore, the satellite distribution is highly anisotropic (isotropy is ruled out at a >99.99% confidence level). Defining phi to be the offset between the major axis of the satellite spatial distribution and the major axis of the host light profile, we find a maximum posterior probability of phi = 0 and |phi| less than 42 degrees at the 68% confidence level. The alignment of the satellite distribution with the light of the host is consistent with simulations, assuming that light traces mass for the host galaxy as observed for lens galaxies. The anisotropy of the satellite population enhances its ability to produce the flux ratio anomalies observed in gravitationally lensed quasars.Comment: 21 pages, 16 figures, Accepted for publication in Ap
