Le vestigia dei gesuati

The book analyses the history of the Jesuat congregation, highlighting the elements of connection and comparison with the social contexts, then describing the origin and the most ancient events of the female branch of the congregation, and the memory of the meeting between the "founder" of the Jesuats and the "foundress" of the Gesuate. The iconographic memory of the initiator of the congregation, Giovani Colombini, the collection of the lauds of the Jesuat Bianco da Siena, and the fortune of the 15th-century Life of Giovanni Colombini, written by Feo Belcari, are also investigated. Then the research reconstructs the constellation of groups, religious experiments and bearers of ideas and devotions that were linked to the Jesuats and, in particular, to the convents of Milan, Siena, Lucca, Venice and Rome and the sanctuaries managed by the congregation. The congregational sociability is analysed along its lines: the practice of work as pharmacists and the cultivation of spiritual friendships with prominent people such as the Countess of Guastalla, Lodovica Torelli. Finally, the erudite use of Colombini's Epistolario as a language text is studied. The volume closes with a documentary appendix on the Jesuat convent of Chiusi

I DA CORBETTA: UNA BOTTEGA DI INTAGLIATORI NELLA MILANO DEL CINQUECENTO

The thesis focuses on the da Corbetta\u2019s workshop. The members of this family of wooden sculptors, active from the end of fifteenth century untill the end of the sixteenth century, fit into the tradition of classical Lombard woodensculpture of the Renaissance. The most investigated figure is Andrea da Corbetta\u2019s one. He is the author of the statues in the Santuario della Beata Vergine dei Miracolo in Saronno. The study\u2019s purpose is to rediscover the other personalities who worked in the da Corbetta\u2019s workshop, such as Andrea\u2019s father Giovanni Pietro, his uncle Santino, or his cousin Giovanni Battista. From the discoveries made by Vittorio Pini, Elisabetta Bianchi and Rossana Sacchi, a new research was started mostly on the Fondo Notarile of Archivio di Stato di Milano. It was found two hundred and twelve documents, that are transcribed in the second part of the thesis. The new informations allow to draw an accurate family tree of these engravers, and also to delinate precise profiles of each member. At the same time it is possible to understand where the da Corbetta\u2019s workshop was located in the city of Milan and investigate how, in the urban context, they becomed related with others engravers or painters, such as the court-artist Giovanni Angelo Mirofoli da Seregno. At these two points is dedicated the treatment in the thesis, because in litterature there is a a little bit gap about this subject for Milan. In the context that the documents allow to create, the da Corbetta\u2019s workshop emerges as a protagonist: it is confirmed the praise that Paolo Morigia in the Nobilt\ue0 di Milano (edited in 1595) tributes to these sculptors

Aspetti della cultura figurativa a Mantova tra il Quattro e il Cinquecento: il caso di Giovan Francesco Tura

La tesi posta in essere verte sulla cultura figurativa mantovana sviluppatasi tra la fine del Quattrocento e l'inizio del Cinquecento, ovvero tra la produzione estrema di Andrea Mantegna e l'arrivo di Giulio Romano. Alla morte dell'anziano maestro padovano la città, nota per la prosperità e per il buon governo dei Gonzaga, divenne un polo attrattivo per numerosi artisti che proprio a Mantova cercarono un riconoscimento e la legittimazione del proprio talento. Questo clima di fermento e di novità favorì uno slancio precoce verso la maniera moderna di cui Giovan Francesco Tura fu un precoce interprete.The thesis focuses on the figurative culture in Mantua that developed between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th Century, i.e. between the extreme production of Andrea Mantegna and the arrival of Giulio Romano. After the death of the elderly master from Padua, the city, known for its prosperity and the good government of the Gonzaga family, became a pole of attraction for numerous artists who sought recognition and legitimisation of their talent in Mantua. This climate of ferment and novelty favoured an early impetus towards mannerism of which Giovan Francesco Tura was an early interpreter

Sesso nel Rinascimento

Questo volume propone un discorso critico sulla sessualità e sulla cultura visiva dell’Italia rinascimentale. I saggi raccolti tentano di fare luce su una serie di zone d’ombra, dando spazio a tutte quelle pratiche o preferenze considerate in genere come alternative o anomalie, e a un’ampia varietà di scenari “scandalosi”. Particolare attenzione è stata riservata all’aspetto materiale della cultura sessuale, dalle modalità di rappresentazione erotica del corpo agli oggetti e agli strumenti associati all’attività sessuale. Ne emerge un quadro completamente nuovo della sessualità rinascimentale, che spazza via secoli di manipolazioni ed equivoci socio-culturali, svelando scenari finora trascurati o volutamente nascosti. Diciassette saggi provocatori, con incursioni nel campo dell’arte, della letteratura, della storia, e persino della filosofia, organizzati intorno a quattro assi fondamentali: la pratica, la performance, la perversione e la punizione. La fase giovanile e di formazione di Matteo da Milano \ue8 ad oggi in corso di chiarificazione e rimane problematica per la totale mancanza di attestazioni che lo riguardano e per la difficolt\ue0 che comporta la ricerca d\u2019archivio conoscendo solo il nome di battesimo dell\u2019artista e un generico luogo di provenienza Proprio per questa situazione lacunosa sul fronte della ricostruzione storica che permetterebbe indirettamente di giungere a qualche risultato di certezza, ad oggi, l\u2019unica via percorribile per comprendere meglio e aggiungere nuovi elementi biografici rimane quella dell\u2019analisi stilistica e di un metodo induttivo per rendere possibile la formulazione e l\u2019apertura di nuove piste di indagine legate alla committenza. Seguendo questo metodo ho individuato grandi affinit\ue0 stilistiche fra Presentazione di Ges\uf9 al tempio gi\ue0 Gerli e lo stile del miniatore \u2013 che costituirebbe una prova di una sua possibile attivit\ue0 pittorica - e ho ritenuto corretto attribuire la lettera capitale M incipit del Diploma di Massimiliano, conservato nell\u2019Archivio di Stato di Milano e datato 1514, ipotizzando quindi la presenza nel ducato dell\u2019artista in anni in cui si \ue8 sempre ritenuto che Matteo si fosse stabilmente trasferito a Rom
