Despite the global impact of COVID-19, studies comparing the effects of COVID-19 on population mental health across countries are sparse. This study aimed to compare anxiety and depression symptoms during the COVID-19 lockdown among adults from 11 countries and to examine their associations with country-level COVID-19 factors and personal COVID-19 exposure. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among adults (≥18 years) in 11 countries (Brazil, Bulgaria, China, India, Ireland, North Macedonia, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, United States). Mental health (anxiety, depression, resilient coping, hope) and other study data were collected between June-August 2020. Of the 13,263 participants, 62.8% were female and 51.7% were 18-34 years old. Participants living in Brazil had the highest anxiety and depression symptoms while participants living in Singapore had the lowest. Greater personal COVID-19 exposure was associated with increased anxiety and depression symptoms, but country-level COVID-19 factors were not. Higher levels of hope were associated with reduced anxiety and depression; higher levels of resilient coping were associated with reduced anxiety but not depression. Substantial variations exist in anxiety and depression symptoms across countries during the COVID-19 lockdown, with personal COVID-19 exposure being a significant risk factor. Strategies that mitigate COVID-19 exposure and enhance hope and resilience may reduce anxiety and depression during global emergencies

Recreational drug use is recognized by the World Health Organization as the consumption of alcoholic beverages, carried out by a portion of youth during leisure contexts. This research aimed at knowing the types of recreational drug use of a population of young Brazilian university students. This is an exploratory and quantitative research, developed through an anonymous and semi-structured questionnaire. The sample consisted of 217 university students, aged 18 to 24 from a public university in the city of Vitoria- Brazil. The results showed that the recreational uses of substances occur mostly during leisure time. Such scenarios represent, for these young people, the possibility of rupture with daily life and the adult universe, characterized by the imposition of rules. For a young group, night-time leisure represents an important context of sociability and alcohol consumption. Among those surveyed, 63.6% consumed alcoholic beverages at night outings and 45.1% almost every weekend. Regarding the pattern of use, 49% consume binge drinking, especially when drinking in informal spaces such as streets and squares due to the lower regulatory control. The results corroborate that alcohol consumption is related to leisure agendas and address issues such as autonomous expression of identities and lifestyles in contemporary society.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of the Rally de Portugal in the tourism destination Porto, thus answering the question “What is the role of the Rally de Portugal in the tourism destination Porto?”. In this study it was used a qualitative methodology, and the sampling method for convenience, according to the availability of the participants. Therefore, individual interviews were applied to two of the event organisers. The interview guide was divided into two sections: Planning and Organisation of the Rally de Portugal, and Porto as a Tourism Destination. The holding of the Porto Street Stage has several positive impacts, being this event a successful one. However, for that to happen, it is necessary to follow three stages during the planning and organization of the event: budgeting, performance, and evaluation. This procedure takes over a year to manage, concerning the Rally de Portugal, or only a few months, regarding the Porto Street Stage. Events influence the economy, environment, culture, society, and politics of a destination [1]. Therefore, as the Rally de Portugal is an event, such influence is also present. However, there are no studies associated with the perspective of stakeholders on the Rally de Portugal as a promotor for the tourism destination Porto, justifying therefore the relevance of the present study.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
