Faktor Risiko Kejadian Infeksi Saluran Pernapasan Akut Pada Anak Usia 6 Bulan Sampai 5 Tahun Di Puskesmas Rowosari
Background: Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI) is one of the most dangerous infectious disease in the world. Approximately four million people deceased because of this disease every year. ARTI is one of the most common infectious diseases on children in Rowosari Puskemas.Objective: To identify the risk factors associated with ARTI in infant and children from 6 months until 5 years in Rowosari Puskesmas, Semarang.Method: The method of this study was case control with primary data and secondary data from questionnaire. The subject was children who suffered from ARTI that came to Puskesmas Rowosari Semarang from 6 months to 5 years old. The number of samples were 128 respondents, consist of 64 control group and 64 cases group. Data was analyzed by chi square test.Result:.There were no significant association between sex gender, knowledge level, parent's job, economic status, birth weight, exclusive breastfeeding status, the giving of ASI food complementary, immunization status, the amount of house mate, smoking of ARTI in children (p < 0.05). There were significant association between hand washing of children after play to ARTI (p= 0,002, OR 0,332). Hand washing of mother before contact to children also has significant association to ARTI (p 0,013; OR 0,409).Conclusion: There are significant associations between hand washing of children after play and hand washing of mother before contact to children with ARTI
Perancangan Sistem Navigasi Otonom Pada Behavior Based Hexapod Robot
Six legged robot (hexapod) has advantage over wheeled robot in its capability to walk over rough terrain. In this paper, hexapod mobility will be tested in order to measure its performance in walk through beam and stair. Behavior based architecture will be used in hexpod, so it can react quickly. Autonomous navigation application has been chosen here in order to prove that the architecture is running well. From simulation result, it can be seen that behavior based hexapod robot has good mobility (it can walk through obstacle that has 10 cm height) and it can accomplish its task to avoid the obstacles and find the light source
Predictors of nurses’ and midwives’ intentions to provide maternal and child healthcare services to adolescents in South Africa
BACKGROUND: Adolescent mothers are at a much higher risk for maternal mortality compared to mothers aged
20 years and above. Newborns born to adolescent mothers are also more likely to have low birth weight, with the
risk of long-term effects such as early onset of adult diabetes than newborns of older mothers. Few studies have
investigated the determinants of adequate quality maternal and child healthcare services to pregnant adolescents.
This study was conducted to gain an understanding of nurses’ and midwives’ intentions to provide maternal and
child healthcare and family planning services to adolescents in South Africa.
METHODS: A total of 190 nurses and midwives completed a cross-sectional survey. The survey included components
on demographics, knowledge of maternal and child healthcare (MCH) and family planning (FP) services, attitude
towards family planning services, subjective norms regarding maternal and child healthcare and family planning
services, self-efficacy with maternal and child healthcare and family planning services, and intentions to provide
maternal and child healthcare and family planning services to adolescents. Pearson’s correlation analysis was
conducted to determine the association between knowledge, attitude, subjective norms, self-efficacy, and intention
variables for FP and MCH services. A 2-step linear regression analysis was then conducted for both FP and MCH
services to predict the intentions to provide FP and MCH services to adolescents.
RESULTS: Self-efficacy to conduct MCH services (β = 0.55, p < 0.01) and years of experience as a nurse- midwife
(β = 0.14, p < 0.05) were associated with stronger intentions to provide the services. Self-efficacy to provide FP
services (β = 0.30, p < 0.01) was associated with stronger intentions to provide FP services.
CONCLUSIONS: Self-efficacy has a strong and positive association with the intentions to provide both MCH and FP
services, while there is a moderate association with attitude and norms. There is a need to improve and strengthen
nurses’ and midwives’ self-efficacy in conducting both MCH and FP services in order to improve the quality and
utilization of the services by adolescents in South Africa.IS
Balance of IL-10 and Interferon-Îł plasma levels in human visceral leishmaniasis: Implications in the pathogenesis
BACKGROUND: Leishmaniasis remains a serious public health problem in several parts of the developing world. Effective prophylactic measurements are hampered by imprecise comprehension of different aspects of the disease, including its immunoregulation. A better comprehension of immunoregulation in human VL may be useful both for designing and evaluating immunoprophylaxis. METHODS: To explore immunoregulatory mechanisms, 20 visceral leishmaniasis (VL) patients were evaluated during active disease and at different periods up to one year after treatment determining their plasma cytokine levels, clinical parameters (palpable spleen and liver) and antibody levels. RESULTS: Elevated plasma levels of IFN-γ and of IL-12 p40 were observed during active disease, significantly decreasing after treatment whereas in vitro Leishmania antigen-stimulated IFN-γ production by PBMC exhibited an inverse pattern being low during disease and increasing steadily thereafter. Absence of IFN-γ activity is a hallmark of VL. The main candidate for blunting IFN-γ activity is IL-10, a cytokine highly elevated in plasma with sharp decrease after treatment. Activity of IL-10 is inferred by high levels of anti-Leishmania specific IgG1 and IgG3. TGF-β had elevated total, but not of active, levels lessening the likelihood of being the IFN-γ counterpart. Spleen or liver size presented a steady decrease but return to normal values at only 120 days after treatment. Anti-Leishmania IgG (total and subclasses) levels and DTH or Leishmania-stimulated lymphocyte proliferation conversion to positive also present a slow decrease after treatment. IL-6 plasma levels were elevated in only a few patients. CONCLUSION: Taken together our results suggest that IFN-γ and IL-10 are the molecules most likely involved in determining fate of disease. After treatment, there is a long delay before the immune profile returns to normal what precludes using plasma cytokine levels as criteria of cure as simpler clinical evaluations, as a palpable spleen or liver, can be used
A global database of lake surface temperatures collected by in situ and satellite methods from 1985–2009
Global environmental change has influenced lake surface temperatures, a key driver of ecosystem structure and function. Recent studies have suggested significant warming of water temperatures in individual lakes across many different regions around the world. However, the spatial and temporal coherence associated with the magnitude of these trends remains unclear. Thus, a global data set of water temperature is required to understand and synthesize global, long-term trends in surface water temperatures of inland bodies of water. We assembled a database of summer lake surface temperatures for 291 lakes collected in situ and/or by satellites for the period 1985–2009. In addition, corresponding climatic drivers (air temperatures, solar radiation, and cloud cover) and geomorphometric characteristics (latitude, longitude, elevation, lake surface area, maximum depth, mean depth, and volume) that influence lake surface temperatures were compiled for each lake. This unique dataset offers an invaluable baseline perspective on global-scale lake thermal conditions as environmental change continues
Entry and Exit Strategies in Migration Dynamics
This work is devoted to study the role of combined entry and exit strategies in the migration process. We develop a real option model in which the community of immigrants in the host country is described as a club and the immigrants benefits is a U-shaped function, depending on the dimension of the district. There exist two threshold levels: the first one triggers the migration choice, while the second triggers the return to the country of origin. The theoretical results show that the phenomenon of hysteresis is amplified by the existence of a community both in the entry case and in the exit case. Furthermore, the community can reduce the minimum wage level required to trigger both exit and entry: this fact could explain why in some cases we observe migration inflows with a low wage differential and also with underunemployment. We show also some possible further extensions of the model: in one case we introduce a possible way to select the entrants skills and in another case we show some theoretical implementations to include possible policy shocks in the migrants choice
