    Natural spawning of four Epinephelus species in the laboratory

    Natural spawnings of four Epinephelus species reared in the laboratory were observed from 1987 to 1992. These species are: E. summana, E. caeruleopunctatus, E. macrospilus and E. fuscoguttatus. Spawning was serial, usually occurring at night, on or 1-6 days after the new moon. Egg characteristics of these four species were compared. Fertilized egg and early larval development of E. summana and E. fuscoguttatus are discussed

    Policies, strategies and patterns to develop business through a franchise system Es Teh Poci is a franchise that is widely spread in Indonesia, including in the city of Semarang. Many of the factors that influence purchase decisions undertakings franchise, one of these products and systems business. The research aims to know the influence of products and business system against purchasing decisions undertakings franchise Es Teh Poci in Semarang city either partially or simultaneous. The primary data used by giving questionnaires to frinchisee with a total of 37 respondents determined using table formula Stephen Isaac & William B. Michael. Respondents taken using a simple random sampling method. Results and discussion. Products against ice tea Teapot well with average score 3.94, business system quite well with the average score 3.93 and purchase decisions with a high average score 3.71. Significant effect against the product purchase decisions (p < 0.05) with a coefficient of 0.508 regression, R2 25.8% and the value t calculate 3.486 > t table 2.030. Enhancement products will be 1 point would purchase decisions 0.426 points. Significantly to the influential business system purchasing decisions (p < 0.05) and the coefficient of regression, R2 0.569 32.4% and the value t calculate 4.099 > t table 2.030. The increase of business system 1 point then it will increase the purchasing decision 0.426. Influential business products and systems is significant against the decision of the buyer with the regression coefficient, R2 0.579 33.6% and test result F calculate 8.584 > F table 3.28. The conclusion of business products and systems effect significantly to purchase decisions either partially or simultaneous. It is suggested to the company to improve the quality of the products and the business system, maximizing the delivery of raw materials, improve discipline and partners held a meeting of the partners, it is useful to more attractive and convincing a partner against business products and systems in business franchise decisions

    Intrauterine growth retardation refers to a rate of growth of a fetus that is less than normal for the growth potential of a fetus (for that particular gestational age). As one of the leading causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity, intrauterine growth retardation has immense implications for the short term and long term growth of children. It is an important public health concern in the developing countries. Health statistics encompassing parameters for maternal and child health in the Indian subcontinent have shown improvement in the past few years but they are still far from perfect. Maternal health, education and empowerment bears a strong influence on perinatal outcomes including intrauterine growth retardation and should be the primary focus of any stratagem targeted at reducing the incidence of intrauterine growth retardation. A concerted liaison of various medical and social disciplines is imperative in this regard

    From Cellular Characteristics to Disease Diagnosis: Uncovering Phenotypes with Supercells

    Cell heterogeneity and the inherent complexity due to the interplay of multiple molecular processes within the cell pose difficult challenges for current single-cell biology. We introduce an approach that identifies a disease phenotype from multiparameter single-cell measurements, which is based on the concept of ‘‘supercell statistics’’, a single-cell-based averaging procedure followed by a machine learning classification scheme. We are able to assess the optimal tradeoff between the number of single cells averaged and the number of measurements needed to capture phenotypic differences between healthy and diseased patients, as well as between different diseases that are difficult to diagnose otherwise. We apply our approach to two kinds of single-cell datasets, addressing the diagnosis of a premature aging disorder using images of cell nuclei, as well as the phenotypes of two non-infectious uveitides (the ocular manifestations of Behc¸et’s disease and sarcoidosis) based on multicolor flow cytometry. In the former case, one nuclear shape measurement taken over a group of 30 cells is sufficient to classify samples as healthy or diseased, in agreement with usual laboratory practice. In the latter, our method is able to identify a minimal set of 5 markers that accurately predict Behc¸et’s disease and sarcoidosis. This is the first time that a quantitative phenotypic distinction between these two diseases has been achieved. To obtain this clear phenotypic signature, about one hundred CD8+ T cells need to be measured. Although the molecular markers identified have been reported to be important players in autoimmune disorders, this is the first report pointing out that CD8+ T cells can be used to distinguish two systemic inflammatory diseases. Beyond these specific cases, the approach proposed here is applicable to datasets generated by other kinds of state-of-the-art and forthcoming single-cell technologies, such as multidimensional mass cytometry, single-cell gene expression, and single-cell full genome sequencing techniques.Fil: Candia, Julian Marcelo.     Bioremediasi adalah salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi pencemaran minyak bumi dengan memanfaatkan mikroorganisme. Mikroorganisme yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Isolat bakteri hidrokarbonoklastik DM-5. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh logam Mn2+ dan Mg2+ terhadap aktivitas bakteri yang dapat meningkatkan laju biodegradasi yang dilihat dari penurunan pH, kadar minyak bumi tersisa metode gravimetri, dan senyawa penyusun minyak bumi hasil biodegradasi (GCMS). Media yang digunakan adalah Stone Mineral Salt Solution Extract Yeast (SMSSe) dengan variasi konsentrasi ion logam Mn2+ (1, 5, 10 ppm) dan Mg2+ (100, 150, 200 ppm). Perlakuan terbaik untuk penambahan ion mangan adalah pada media Mn-2 dengan persentase degradasi sebesar 90,54% dengan pH akhir sebesar 5,63 sedangkan media Mn-1 dan Mn-3 sebesar 85,26 % dan 86,42% dengan pH akhir sebesar 5,98 dan 5,76. Perlakuan terbaik untuk penambahan ion magnesium adalah pada media Mg-1 dengan persentase degradasi sebesar 69,37% dengan pH akhir sebesar 6,08 sedangkan media Mg-2 dan Mg-3 sebesar 36,52% dan 28,73% dengan pH akhir sebesar 6,35 dan 6,52

    Role of biofuels in energy transition, green economy and carbon neutrality

    Modern civilization is heavily reliant on petroleum-based fuels to meet the energy demand of the transportation sector. However, burning fossil fuels in engines emits greenhouse gas emissions that harm the environment. Biofuels are commonly regarded as an alternative for sustainable transportation and economic development. Algal-based fuels, solar fuels, e-fuels, and CO2-to-fuels are marketed as next-generation sources that address the shortcomings of first-generation and second-generation biofuels. This article investigates the benefits, limitations, and trends in different generations of biofuels through a review of the literature. The study also addresses the newer generation of biofuels highlighting the social, economic, and environmental aspects, providing the reader with information on long-term sustainability. The use of nanoparticles in the commercialization of biofuel is also highlighted. Finally, the paper discusses the recent advancements that potentially enable a sustainable energy transition, green economy, and carbon neutrality in the biofuel sector

The paper argue that not only is a logic of the type used in ontology insufficient for such a purpose, but that the very idea that meaning is a property of a document that can be expressed and stored independently of the interpretation activity is misguided. The paper proposes, in very general lines, a possible alternative view of meaning as modification of context and shows that many current approaches to meaning, from ontology to emergent semantics, can be seen as spacial cases of this approach, and can be analyzed from a very general theoretical framework
