String-String triality for d=4, Z_2 orbifolds
We investigate the perturbative and non-perturbative correspondence of a
class of four dimensional dual string constructions with N=4 and N=2
supersymmetry, obtained as Z_2 or Z_2 x Z_2 orbifolds of the type II, heterotic
and type I string. In particular, we discuss the heterotic and type I dual of
all the symmetric Z_2 x Z_2 orbifolds of the type II string, classified in

Atmospheric monitoring in the mm and sub-mm bands for cosmological observations: CASPER2
Cosmological observations from ground at millimetre and sub-millimetre
wavelengths are affected by atmospheric absorption and consequent emission. The
low and high frequency (sky noise) fluctuations of atmospheric performance
imply careful observational strategies and/or instrument technical solutions.
Measurements of atmospheric emission spectra are necessary for accurate
calibration procedures as well as for site testing statistics. CASPER2, an
instrument to explore the 90-450 GHz (3-15 1/cm) spectral region, was developed
and verified its operation in the Alps. A Martin-Puplett Interferometer (MPI)
operates comparing sky radiation, coming from a field of view (fov) of 28
arcminutes (FWHM) collected by a 62-cm in diameter Pressman-Camichel telescope,
with a reference source. The two output ports of the interferometer are
detected by two bolometers cooled down to 300 mK inside a wet cryostat. Three
different and complementary interferometric techniques can be performed with
CASPER2: Amplitude Modulation (AM), Fast-Scan (FS) and Phase Modulation (PM).
An altazimuthal mount allows the sky pointing, possibly co-alligned to the
optical axis of the 2.6-m in diameter telescope of MITO (Millimetre and
Infrared Testagrigia Observatory, Italy). Optimal timescale to average acquired
spectra is inferred by Allan variance analysis at 5 fiducial frequencies. We
present the motivation for and design of the atmospheric spectrometer CASPER2.
The adopted procedure to calibrate the instrument and preliminary performance
of the instrument are described. Instrument capabilities were checked during
the summer observational campaign at MITO in July 2010 by measuring atmospheric

Cauchyness and convergence in fuzzy metric spaces
[EN] In this paper we survey some concepts of convergence and Cauchyness appeared separately in the context of fuzzy metric spaces in the sense of George and Veeramani. For each convergence (Cauchyness) concept we find a compatible Cauchyness (convergence) concept. We also study the relationship among them and the relationship with compactness and completeness (defined in a natural sense for each one of the Cauchy concepts). Design Considerations for Unmagnetized Collisionless-shock Measurements in Homologous Flows
The subject of this paper is the design of practical laser experiments that can produce collisionless shocks mediated by the Weibel instability. Such shocks may be important in a wide range of astrophysical systems. Three issues are considered. The first issue is the implications of the fact that such experiments will produce expanding flows that are approximately homologous. As a result, both the velocity and the density of the interpenetrating plasma streams will be time dependent. The second issue is the implications of the linear theory of the Weibel instability. For the experiments, the instability is in a regime where standard simplifications do not apply. It appears feasible but non-trivial to obtain adequate growth. The third issue is collisionality. Effect of the mycelium, diffused substances and extracts of the fungus Cladosporium herbarum (Pers.) link on the in vitro and in vivo growth of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Cabernet Sauvignon
The fungus Cladosporium herbarum (Pers.) Link was cocultured with plantlets of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) cv. Cabernet Sauvignon in vitro and ex vitro. The mycelium of the fungus stimulates growth of the plantlets. This is probably exerted by the diffusion of some growth and/or nutritional substance(s) of unknown chemical nature. In another trial filtrates of the fungus and fungus extracts were added to the culture medium of grapevine plantlets in different concentrations. The fungus extracts stimulated growth of plantlets at low concentrations and inhibited growth at high concentrations

Axion particle production in a laser-induced dynamical spacetime
Abstract We consider the dynamics of a charged particle (e.g., an electron) oscillating in a laser field in flat spacetime and describe it in terms of the variable mass metric. By applying Einstein's equivalence principle, we show that, after representing the electron motion in a time-dependent manner, the variable mass metric takes the form of the Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker metric. We quantize a pseudo-scalar field in this spacetime and derive the production rate of electrically neutral, spinless particles. We show that this approach can provide an alternative experimental method to axion searches
