    Get PDF
This article is the result of an interest in generating changes in traditional evaluation processes in higher education, as to favor the development of specific and cross-curricular competencies in pre-service teachers. The literature portfolio is proposed as an assessment strategy for pre-service language teachers, who are responsible for gaining awareness on their learning processes, considering they will replicate them in their professional practice. The literature portfolio allows teachers to go beyond simple class records, it aims at developing in students cognitive, procedural and attitudinal skills in terms of evaluating competencies in learning, promoting self-regulation of knowledge through the implementation of other assessment resources such as self-assessment, collective assessment and co-evaluation. Additionally, the possibility of articulating academic processes with personal experience that lead to reflective thinking is attained.Key Words: competency based teaching, literary portfolio, self-hetero and co-evaluation, individualized learning, new knowledge development professional training and educative, task-cycling pedagogy.

Synthetic Fatty Acids Prevent Plasmid-Mediated Horizontal Gene Transfer

Bacterial conjugation constitutes a major horizontal gene transfer mechanism for the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes among human pathogens. Antibiotic resistance spread could be halted or diminished by molecules that interfere with the conjugation process. In this work, synthetic 2-alkynoic fatty acids were identified as a novel class of conjugation inhibitors. Their chemical properties were investigated by using the prototype 2-hexadecynoic acid and its derivatives. Essential features of effective inhibitors were the carboxylic group, an optimal long aliphatic chain of 16 carbon atoms, and one unsaturation. Chemical modification of these groups led to inactive or less-active derivatives. Conjugation inhibitors were found to act on the donor cell, affecting a wide number of pathogenic bacterial hosts, including Escherichia, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, and Acinetobacter spp. Conjugation inhibitors were active in inhibiting transfer of IncF, IncW, and IncH plasmids, moderately active against IncI, IncL/M, and IncX plasmids, and inactive against IncP and IncN plasmids. Importantly, the use of 2-hexadecynoic acid avoided the spread of a derepressed IncF plasmid into a recipient population, demonstrating the feasibility of abolishing the dissemination of antimicrobial resistances by blocking bacterial conjugation. The work performed by the F.D.L.C. group was supported by grants BFU2011-26608 from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and 612146/FP7-ICT-2013-10 and 282004/FP7-HEALTH-2011-2.3.1-2 from the European Seventh Framework Programme. "Electrochemical behavior and microstructure was studied in polycrystalline Co38.3Ni32.1Ga29.6 alloy using the electrochemical technique of polarization curves in a medium of 3.5 wt % NaCl and 0.5M H2SO4. The importance of these alloys is due to their functional behavior, as shape memory alloys with ferromagnetic properties. The alloy was fabricated by induction furnace and the characterizations were performed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), nanoindenter tests and X-ray diffraction (XRD) The analysis of the kinetics of corrosion was conducted using cyclic sweep voltammetry curves with potentiostat/galvanostat. The corrosion morphologies were also analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The kinetics of corrosion was found to be highest in the acid media and the alloy with thermal treatment in 3.5 wt% NaCl (A-TT-NaCl) shows a icorr lower that the alloy without thermal treatment (A-NaCl) in the same solution. On polarization curves, the current alloys exhibited a general dissolution in the anodic branch until certain potential was reached where a spontaneous passive zone occurred in 3.5 wt% NaCl media, similar behavior was found in acid media where, under high potentials occurs a repassivation zone at 427mV and elements such as Co and Ni were present in a higher percentage for all the corrosion deposits.

Air quality has been a global problem for several decades and has had several approaches for its mitigation, analysis and quantification. There are several ways and methods to quantify primary and secondary air pollutants. Therefore, the objective of this research was to determine, through SEM-EDS analysis, the elemental chemical characterization and morphology of the compounds present in the tapes of PM10 BAM (Beta Attenuation Mass Monitor) equipment from air quality monitoring campaigns in the city of Poza. Rica, Veracruz in Mexico. The methodology consisted of collecting filter tapes from the air quality monitoring stations used in the evaluation period, sampling and analysis was performed by the SEM/EDS scanning electron microscopy technique. The results allowed identifying in the samples the elemental chemical characterization and morphology of the particles retained in them
