Unity of pomerons from gauge/string duality
We develop a formalism where the hard and soft pomeron contributions to high
energy scattering arise as leading Regge poles of a single kernel in
holographic QCD. The kernel is obtained using effective field theory inspired
by Regge theory of a 5-d string theory. It describes the exchange of higher
spin fields in the graviton Regge trajectory that are dual to glueball states
of twist two. For a specific holographic QCD model we describe Deep Inelastic
Scattering in the Regge limit of low Bjorken x, finding good agreement with
experimental data from HERA. The observed rise of the effective pomeron
intercept, as the size of the probe decreases, is reproduced by considering the
first four pomeron trajectories. In the case of soft probes, relevant to total
cross sections, the leading hard pomeron trajectory is suppressed, such that in
this kinematical region we reproduce an intercept of 1.09 compatible with the
QCD soft pomeron data. In the spectral region of positive Maldelstam variable t
the first two pomeron trajectories are consistent with current expectations for
the glueball spectrum from lattice simulations
Soft Pomeron in Holographic QCD
We study the graviton Regge trajectory in Holographic QCD as a model for high
energy scattering processes dominated by soft pomeron exchange. This is done by
considering spin J fields from the closed string sector that are dual to
glueball states of even spin and parity. In particular, we construct a model
that governs the analytic continuation of the spin J field equation to the
region of real J < 2, which includes the scattering domain of negative
Maldelstam variable t. The model leads to approximately linear Regge
trajectories and is compatible with the measured values of 1.08 for the
intercept and 0.25 GeV for the slope of the soft pomeron. The intercept
of the secondary pomeron trajectory is in the same region of the subleading
trajectories, made of mesons, proposed by Donnachie and Landshoff, and should
therefore be taken into account.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. V2 : The paper has been expanded to provide more

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering in Improved Holographic QCD
We present our current progress in the holographic computation of the
scattering amplitude for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) processe, as
a function of the Mandelstam invariant . We show that it is possible to
describe simultaneously the differential cross-section and total cross-section
of DVCS data with a single holographic model for the pomeron. Using data from
H1-ZEUS we obtained a for the best fit to the data.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, accepted in Physics Letters
Genetical genomics: use all data
BACKGROUND: Genetical genomics is a very powerful tool to elucidate the basis of complex traits and disease susceptibility. Despite its relevance, however, statistical modeling of expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) has not received the attention it deserves. Based on two reasonable assertions (i) a good model should consider all available variables as potential effects, and (ii) gene expressions are highly interconnected, we suggest that an eQTL model should consider the rest of expression levels as potential regressors, in addition to the markers. RESULTS: It is shown that power can be increased with this strategy. We also show, using classical statistical and support vector machines techniques in a reanalysis of public data, that the external transcripts, i.e., transcripts other than the one being analysed, explain on average much more variability than the markers themselves. The presence of eQTL hotspots is reassessed in the light of these results. CONCLUSION: Model choice is a critical yet neglected issue in genetical genomics studies. Although we are far from having a general strategy for model choice in this area, we can at least propose that any transcript level is scanned not only for the markers genotyped but also for the rest of gene expression levels. Some sort of stepwise regression strategy can be used to select the final model
Cooperative transport communication in AGV groups using Omni-Curve Parameters
The concept of Omni-Curve Parameters (OCPs) is used in the context of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). It allows a group of vehicles to move as if they were one and, for example, carry a load together (cooperative transport). Its aim is to be universal, which means that any vehicle could use it regardless of their chassis configuration or number of wheels. To achieve this, the concept calculates the direction and speed of each wheel knowing their constant relative position in the group and the planned trajectory. For each instant of the trajectory, there can be different values for the OCPs, which are three: floating angle, nominal velocity and nominal curvature.
This work focuses on discerning how best to ensure that the AGVs update the values of the OCPs. First, some communication technologies are studied and compared. Robustness and low latency are some of the most desired features. Then, the most appealing ones are used to build a communication system capable of sending and receiving this parameters, as well as some concepts are developed to optimize the information flow of the OCPs through the group. Finally, technologies are compared
and tested and conclusions are drawn.Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas y AutomáticaMáster en Ingeniería Industria

Consulting report – Equipos Portuarios SA
sucesión que la empresa tenga en el futuroEquiports was created in 2007 as a family-owned company that specializes in the
rental, sales and after-sales of container handling equipment for the Peruvian port industry.
The company plays in a high competitive industry in which both the relationship with
customers and a highly technical experience are important to represent exclusively foreigner
brands.
The key problem identified within the company is that Alejandro Sarria, the General
Manager and co-owner at Equiports, will soon need to leave his position as CEO at Equiports
in order to be focused on another family-owned company. However, as a result of the
conducted analysis, there are internal issues that could jeopardize the success of the company
in the future. The firm is facing this challenge due to the degree of importance that Alejandro
has had in Equiports. As a small company, Equiports did not understand the need to develop
proper knowledge management, and being a family-owned company, it failed to develop a
succession plan and groom internal talent that could replace the CEO position when needed.
A problem-solving process was conducted to ensure that the firm will not struggle
without the presence of its central and ever present leader, Alejandro. A six months plan is
recommended to apply at Equiports to cope with the key problem. The plan has four
initiatives: (a) to develop training and shadowing, (b) to review the KPIs, (c) to develop a
resource management tool, and (d) to improve knowledge management. This
implementation plan for the succession of CEO position can be adapted with minor
alterations for any succession the company has in the futureTesi
