English Is It! (ELT Training Series) was created with a view to providing opportunities which can make up, somehow, for this gap. The aforementioned members are the permanent teaching staff in the group, they investigate their different areas of expertise in their classes, expose them to the group and make proposals, which are later turned into articles

Diversity in composition of scarlet (S. aethiopicum) and gboma (S. macrocarpon) eggplants and of interspecific hybrids between S. aethiopicum and common eggplant (S. melongena)

[EN] Scarlet (Solanum aethiopicum) and gboma (S. macrocarpon) eggplants are cultivated vegetable crops native to Africa, for which no comprehensive reports exist on composition and diversity. We have evaluated diversity in composition of three varieties of scarlet eggplant and four varieties of gboma eggplant, as well as of four interspecific hybrids between scarlet and common eggplant (S. melongena) and their respective parents. With the exception of moisture (between 85.8 and 88.3 g/100 g) and pH (between 5.32 and 5.89), there was a wide diversity among varieties within each of the species for the composition traits evaluated, revealing ample possibilities for selection of varieties with improved fruit composition. Scarlet eggplant varieties evaluated presented, on average, lower content than gboma eggplant varieties for carbohydrates (3.60 vs 6.48 g/100 g), starch (3.18 vs 6.15 g/100 g), vitamin C (11.6 vs 18.9 mg/100 g), and total phenolics (24.4 vs 144 mg/100 g) and higher values for soluble sugars content and for the ascorbic/dehydroascorbic acid ratio. Interspecific hybrids between scarlet and gboma eggplants presented moisture content (79.0 g/100 g) and pH (5.15) values below those of any of the parents. For the rest of traits, values were intermediate between both parents, although much more similar to the scarlet eggplant parent. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. Dia2 Controls Transcription by Mediating Assembly of the RSC Complex

    Get PDF
Background: Dia2 is an F-box protein found in the budding yeast, S. cerevisiae. Together with Skp1 and Cul1, Dia2 forms the substrate-determining part of an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, otherwise known as the SCF. Dia2 has previously been implicated in the control of replication and genome stability via its interaction with the replisome progression complex. Principal Findings: We identified components of the RSC chromatin remodelling complex as genetic interactors with Dia2, suggesting an additional role for Dia2 in the regulation of transcription. We show that Dia2 is involved in controlling assembly of the RSC complex. RSC belongs to a group of ATP-dependent nucleosome-remodelling complexes that controls the repositioning of nucleosomes. The RSC complex is expressed abundantly and its 17 subunits are recruited to chromatin in response to both transcription activation and repression. In the absence of Dia2, RSC-mediated transcription regulation was impaired, with concomitant abnormalities in nucleosome positioning. Conclusions: Our findings imply that Dia2 is required for the correct assembly and function of the RSC complex. Dia2, by controlling the RSC chromatin remodeller, fine-tunes transcription by controlling nucleosome positioning during transcriptional activation and repression

This report has as aim leaving a record of the most relevant normative changes and the most paradigmatic judicial trends in Labour Law in 2015. One can easily observe the unstoppable dynamismof Labour and Social Security Law in Spain. The document, conscious of that mutability, collects a thorough selection of key issues, according to the judgement of the authors, all of them specialists and all of them members of the Young Scholars’ Section of the Spanish Association for Labour and Social Security Law. They are part of thematic groups, linked to their main research lines and their teaching task. Summing up, in this report “Labour and Social Security Law in Spain in 2015”, one can easily find useful information for labour lawyers in subjects such as unspecific fundamental rights, work contracts and employment, issues of the labour relationship, collective rights, equality and co-responsibility, Social Security or occupational risk prevention
