Feasibility study of combined heating and cooling by biomass

    Get PDF
PFC del programa Erasmus elaborat a Jyväskylan AmmattikorkeakouluThe main objective was to show the feasibility of biomass in order to produce combined heating and cooling. The energy study of the European heat market and the policy of energy, aims to demonstrate the meaning of the study. Furthermore, the weather in Catalonia is confirming the interest for the topic. Biomass is a renewable energy and this implies a considerable reduction of the pollution. The technical and economical study shows the feasibility of this innovative solution for the use of refrigeration. The key points for the feasibility of the project are: The requirements of the user, the power to install, the price of biomass and the distance between the power plant and the residential district. District heating and cooling is a sustainable solution concerning the energy savings and cost savings. Biomass price is stable. The biomass supply should be ensured in district heating and cooling in order to guarantee the service to the users. The investment of combined heating and cooling is lower than the investment of only heating if we consider the service provided. The monthly fee for the user is considerably cheaper. The system could be used in any industry which requires refrigeration in their processes. For example, the food industry sector could be an interesting place to promote these systems

The MAL proteolipid is necessary for the overall apical delivery of membrane proteins in the polarized epithelial Madin-Darby canine kidney and Fischer rat thyroid cell lines

The MAL proteolipid has been recently demonstrated as being necessary for correct apical sorting of the transmembrane influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells. The fact that, in contrast to MDCK cells, Fischer rat thyroid (FRT) cells target the majority of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins to the basolateral membrane provides us with the opportunity to determine the role of MAL in apical transport of membrane proteins under conditions in which the majority of GPI-anchored proteins are (MDCK cells) or are not (FRT cells) targeted to the apical surface. Using an antisense oligonucleotide-based strategy to deplete endogenous MAL, we have observed that correct transport of apical transmembrane proteins associated (HA) or not (exogenous neurotrophin receptor and endogenous dipeptidyl peptidase IV) with lipid rafts, as well as that of the bulk of endogenous apical membrane, takes place in FRT cells by a pathway that requires normal MAL levels. Even transport of placental alkaline phosphatase, a GPI-anchored protein that is targeted apically in FRT cells, was dependent on normal MAL levels. Similarly, in addition to the reported effect of MAL on HA transport, depletion of MAL in MDCK cells caused a dramatic reduction in the apical delivery of the GPI-anchored gD1-DAF protein, neurotrophin receptor, and the bulk of membrane proteins. These results suggest that MAL is necessary for the overall apical transport of membrane proteins in polarized MDCK and FRT cellsThis work was supported by grants from the Dirección General de Enseñanza Superior (PM96-0004) and the Comunidad de Madrid (08.3/0020/1998). It is showing a resistance to the binary oppressing model of man/woman. Through the filming of one's own body in transitional spaces, the cinematographic appropriation that has influenced me and the wording as visual poetry, (re)present a mental landscape of subjective narrative. Different aspects of life are reproduced in a rhizomatic way and so deconstructing temporal linearity. It is for this reason that the video is in loop, without a beginning nor end. In a constant transition towards the horizon -this line is to be understood as a (in)existent border between what is real and what is fiction-, I fluctuate between my multiple selves, they mix up, miss, tie, interfere, transfer, repel, and connect with each other (/myself) generating a post-identity being as a no-result

‘WANGGAJARLI BURUGUN We are coming home’

    Get PDF
To date, the Yawuru community has found 36 ancestors, scattered across the world, who were removed from Yawuru country during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Many have been held and displayed in European museums, treated as curiosities in collections or as objects for scientific studies, often to validate racist theories of the evolution of mankind. The Wanggajarli Burugun story has been created from mabu liyan. The experience has been curated as a journey, which matches the journey of discovery and understanding, as we uncovered the truth about what happened to our ancestors and begin to reconcile this traumatic history. Members of the community curatorium will discuss all the aspects of the Wanggajarli Burugun project that includes an exhibition, research, the development of a memorial and resting place, and their work in trying to bring their ancestors back to their home country

The Role of Cargo Proteins in GGA Recruitment

Coat proteins are recruited onto membranes to form vesicles that transport cargo from one compartment to another, but the extent to which the cargo helps to recruit the coat proteins is still unclear. Here we have examined the role of cargo in the recruitment of Golgi-localized, γ-ear-containing, ADP ribosylation factor (ARF)-binding proteins (GGAs) onto membranes in HeLa cells. Moderate overexpression of CD8 chimeras with cytoplasmic tails containing DXXLL-sorting signals, which bind to GGAs, increased the localization of all three GGAs to perinuclear membranes, as observed by immunofluorescence. GGA2 was also expressed at approximately twofold higher levels in these cells because it was degraded more slowly. However, this difference only partially accounted for the increase in membrane localization because there was a approximately fivefold increase in GGA2 associated with crude membranes and a ∼12-fold increase in GGA2 associated with clathrin-coated vesicles (CCVs) in cells expressing CD8-DXXLL chimeras. The effect of cargo proteins on GGA recruitment was reconstituted in vitro using permeabilized control and CD8-DXXLL-expressing cells incubated with cytosol containing recombinant GGA2 constructs. Together, these results demonstrate that cargo proteins contribute to the recruitment of GGAs onto membranes and to the formation of GGA-positive CCVs
