Inquisidor, poeta y geógrafo. José Vicente del Olmo (Valencia, 1611-1696)

José Vicente del Olmo, secretario de la Santa Inquisición durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII, formó parte del círculo academicista y preilustrado de la ciudad de Valencia que participó en la introducción de la ciencia moderna en España. Tras una primera etapa dedicada a la poesía y el arte de la emblemática en el contexto de una ciudad efímera y barroca, sus inquietudes intelectuales acabaron llevándole al estudio de la geografía, entendida como una rama de las ciencias físico-matemáticas. En este artículo se analiza esta trayectoria y se hace una primera aproximación a la obra cumbre de este autor: la Nueva Descripción del Orbe de la Tierra (1681).José Vicente del Olmo, secretary of the Holy Inquisition during the second half of the 17th century, formed part of the academic circle of the city of Valencia that took part in the introduction of the modern science in Spain. Cartografía de la Primera Guerra Carlista. Planos del frente del Maestrazgo del capitán Manfredo Fanti (1837-1840)

Entre 1833 y 1840 tuvo lugar en España el primer episodio de las Guerras Carlistas. Los últimos enfrentamientos de esta guerra se produjeron en el llamado frente del Maestrazgo o de Aragón y Valencia, que afectaba sobre todo a las tierras del Bajo Aragón, el norte de Castellón y el sur de Cataluña. A este frente se incorporó como voluntario el modenés Manfredo Fanti en 1837, tras haberse formado como ingeniero en Italia y Francia. En ese momento, los cuerpos facultativos encargados del levantamiento y la custodia de la cartografía empleada por el ejército liberal eran su Estado Mayor General y el Real Cuerpo de Ingenieros Militares. La especialización de Fanti en las labores topográficas y cartográficas propias de toda guerra facilitó su rápida adscripción al primero de ellos, donde ejercitaría una labor logística básica que incluía el alzado de mapas y planos. En este artículo se hace una aproximación a la cartografía liberal de esta Primera Guerra Carlista y se analiza, a modo de ejemplo, el contexto militar y profesional en el que Fanti desarrolló su obra cartográfica

El plano de la Particular Contribución de Valencia de Francisco Antonio Cassaus (1695) y sus corolarios del siglo XVII

In 1694, the jesuit Francisco Antonio Cassaus raised a map of the Particular Contribution of Valencia, territory that was making a detour to the city and on which this one was exercising the supreme jurisdiction, which was edited in 1695 by Ascensi Duart. Lost for a long time, his recovery in 1997, proceeding from a private collection, has allowed us to clarify the confused references that were had of the same one and to incorporate it definitively into the history of the Valencian cartography. In this article the above mentioned map is analyzed, one of the few ones that were taken to the press during the 17th century in the former Kingdom of Valencia, and one gives news of his corollaries of the 18th centuryEn 1694, el jesuita Francisco Antonio Cassaus levantó un plano de la Particular Contribución de Valencia, territorio que rodeaba a la ciudad y sobre el que ésta ejercía la jurisdicción suprema, que fue editado en 1695 por Ascensi Duart. Perdido durante mucho tiempo, su recuperación en 1997, procedente de una colección particular, nos ha permitido aclarar las referencias confusas que se tenían del mismo e incorporarlo definitivamente a la historia de la cartografía valenciana. Equívocos, mentiras, ocultaciones y medias verdades en la historia de la cartografía impresa valenciana (1584-1797)

La historia de la cartografía está repleta de errores de difícil corrección. Los mapas con datación y autoría apócrifas, las copias que conservan de manera ritual el contenido original, la ocultación bien o malintencionada de datos, las referencias a delineaciones que nadie ha visto o las confusiones onomásticas son ejemplos habituales en este sentido. En el caso de la cartografía impresa valenciana, estos equívocos afectan a mapas y autores de gran prestigio y han dado lugar a una historia plagada de lugares comunes que no se ajusta a la realidad. En este artículo se subsanan algunos de ellos a partir de la revisión crítica de las investigaciones más recientes en este campo.The history of cartography is replete with errors of difficult correction. Maps with dating and authorship bearing apocryphal luggage, the copies that remain ritually original content, the well or malicious-intentioned occultation data, references to delineations that no one has seen or onomastic confusion are common examples in this regard. In the case of valencian printed cartography, these misunderstandings affect maps and authors of great prestige and have led to a history fraught with common places that do not conform to reality. This article seeks to correct some of them from the critical review of the latest research in this field

The flood of the Turia River of 1731. An approximation to the literature of the catastrophe

Los sucesos naturales de carácter extraordinario que se han sucedido a lo largo de la historia han dejado tras de sí un gran legado documental. Fenómenos como los terremotos, las erupciones volcánicas, las sequías, las plagas, etc. han constituido desde siempre un motivo de preocupación para las poblaciones expuestas y una ocasión para desatar la imaginación de los cronistas. En el caso de la ciudad de Valencia, ningún fenómeno natural ha influido tanto en su historia como las avenidas recurrentes del río Turia. Una de ellas, la riada extraordinaria de septiembre de 1731, quedó registrada en documentos de todo tipo que pueden englobarse bajo la denominación común de literatura de la catástrofe. En este artículo se analizan cuatro relaciones impresas del suceso y dos dietarios personales manuscritos, en un intento de ampliar los datos conocidos del desastre y, sobre todo, de enmarcarlo en el contexto social y político en el que tuvo lugar.The natural events of extraordinary character that have happened along the history have stopped besides yes a great documentary legacy. Phenomena like the earthquakes, the volcanic eruptions, the droughts, the plagues, etc. they have constituted from always a motive of worry for the exposed populations and an occasion to untie the imagination of the chroniclers. In case of the city of Valencia, no natural phenomenon has influenced so much his history as the avenues appellants of the river Turia. One of them, the extraordinary flood of September, 1731, remained registered in documents of all kinds that can be included under the common name of literature of the catastrophe. In this article there are analyzed four printed relations of the event and two personal manuscript record-books, in an attempt of extending the information known about the disaster and, especially, of framing it in the social and political context in which it took place

El ejercicio de funciones públicas por entidades privadas colaboradoras de la Administración

El trabajo tiene como objeto el examen de algunas de las principales cuestiones relacionadas con las entidades privadas que colaboran con la administración en el ejercicio de funciones públicas. Después de señalar el origen y las razones que justifican el éxito en la evolución posterior de este fenómeno, se estudian los rasgos que caracterizan este tipo de entidades: son personas jurídicas, de naturaleza privada, con ánimo de lucro, especializadas e imparciales, que colaboran en el ejercicio y solamente en el ejercicio de verdaderas funciones públicas. La parte final se dedica a subrayar la difícil delimitación de las funciones públicas y a reflexionar tanto sobre el mecanismo jurídico de atribución del ejercicio de la función como sobre la responsabilidad que puede nacer como consecuencia de la actividad realizada por las entidades colaboradorasIt is the aim of this research to analyse some of the main issues related to private entities that collaborate with the administration when performingits public functions. After pointing out the origin and the reasons that justify the success in the subsequent evolution of this phenomenon, we will study the mainly features of this type of entities: they are legal entities, of private and for-profit nature, professional and impartial, that act only in the management of real public functions. The final section is focused on the difficulty to deli- mitate the boundaries of public functions and to think about the legal mechanism for assigning the function as well as on the liability that may arise as a result of the activity undertaken by the partners

Leptogenesis in Complex Hybrid Inflation

We study the transference of an initial leptonic charge contained in a complex scalar field (waterfall field) at the end of the inflation to the leptons of the standard model and then convert this leptonic charge in baryonic charge by sphaleron process. The proposal is that this is done trough the decay of the complex scalar field particles into the right-handed neutrino which in turn decays into the left-handed lepton doublet and the Higgs field of the standard model. It must be analyzed in what environment the transference is done. We propose that the inflaton (the dominant energy density of the universe) decay into ultrarelativistic fermions before the waterfall field particles decay in the right-handed neutrino, leaving a thermalized bath where the transference of the leptonic asymmetry can be achieved.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure. Upwind Finite Element-PML Approximation of a Novel Linear Potential Model for Free Surface Flows Produced by a Floating Rigid Body

[Abstract] A novel linear potential model is presented to compute free surface flows of incompressible fluids produced by the motion of a floating rigid body in the presence of an underlying non-uniform flow. In particular, the proposed model enables the accurate numerical simulation of the Kelvin wake pattern in a computational domain of reduced size. The governing equations are obtained by using an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation which involves the underlying velocity of the fluid around the floating body assuming flat free surface, and a non-dimensional analysis to derive the novel linear system of equations for free surface flows. The discretization of the proposed model is made by a standard Galerkin finite element method, where a SUPG-inspired upwinding strategy has been used in combination with a Perfectly Matched Layer technique which allows truncating the original unbounded fluid domain without introducing spurious reflections in the Kelvin wake pattern. The numerical simulations computed with the proposed approach are compared with the results obtained by the classical linear potential model with uniform underlying flow and also with those from the full incompressible Navier–Stokes equations equipped with the k−ω SST turbulent model. 18 páginas.El presente trabajo mediante la aplicación de la escala diseñada por Slama y Taschian (1985, p. 73), tiene como objetivo analizar el comportamiento del cosumidor de artículos de bicicleta, a partir del concepto de involucramiento de compra. Para ello se hace una revisión de literatura para explicar los principales conceptos y luego se hace un análisis empírico exploratorio aplicando la escala mencionanda anteriormente que consta de 33 preguntas tipo Likert bajo un conjunto de características sociodemográficas definidas como variables explicativas del comportamiento e involucramiento.The present work, throught the application of the scale designed by slama and Taschian (1985, p. 73), it has the objective to analyze the consumer behavior of bicycle articles, based on the concept of purchase involvement.
