    Approaches for a Solely Electroless Metallization of Through-Glass Vias

    With the ever increasing demand for miniaturization in microfabrication, three dimensional integration is considered the key for progress and reliable vertical interconnect accesses (vias) are crucial. Glass substrates are potent alternatives for silicon in 3-D technologies with their comparable characteristics, their advantage of inherent isolation, and low insertion losses. Through-Glass Vias (TGVs) are commonly metallized using PVD, CVD, or electroless deposition for a seed layer followed by the electrodeposition of copper. Inspired by molded interconnect devices (MID) technologies, the goal of this paper is a solely electroless TGV filling on the basis of three priming approaches: self-assembling monolayers of (3-mercap-topropyl) trimethoxysilane (MPTMS), a photocatalytic layer of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTiP) and a sol-gel process. Priming with a TBuT solution proved to be particularly suitable. This coating has high-temperature resistance, good adhesion in the TGVs, and allows a solely electroless filling with a layer stack of NiCuNiAu and CuNiAu. © 2022 IEEE.     Adenosine A2A receptors: localization and function

    Adenosine is an endogenous purine nucleoside present in all mammalian tissues, that originates from the breakdown of ATP. By binding to its four receptor subtypes (A1, A2A, A2B, and A3), adenosine regulates several important physiological functions at both the central and peripheral levels. Therefore, ligands for the different adenosine receptors are attracting increasing attention as new potential drugs to be used in the treatment of several diseases. This chapter is aimed at providing an overview of adenosine metabolism, adenosine receptors localization and their signal transduction pathways. Particular attention will be paid to the biochemistry and pharmacology of A2A receptors, since antagonists of these receptors have emerged as promising new drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The interactions of A2A receptors with other nonadenosinergic receptors, and the effects of the pharmacological manipulation of A2A receptors on different body organs will be discussed, together with the usefulness of A2A receptor antagonists for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and the potential adverse effects of these drugs

    A systematic review on the effectiveness of implementation strategies to postpone elective caesarean sections to ≥ 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation

    BACKGROUND Caesarean sections often have no urgent indication and are electively planned. Research showed that elective caesarean section should not be performed until 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation to ensure best neonatal and maternal health if there are no contraindications. This was recommended by various guidelines published in the last two decades. With this systematic review, we are looking for implementation strategies trying to implement these recommendations to reduce elective caesarean section before 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation. METHODS We performed a systematic literature search in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, and CINAHL on 3rd of March 2021. We included studies that assessed implementation strategies aiming to postpone elective caesarean section to ≥ 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation. There were no restrictions regarding the type of implementation strategy or reasons for elective caesarean section. Our primary outcome was the rate of elective caesarean sections before 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation. We used the ROBINS-I Tool for the assessment of risk of bias. We did a narrative analysis of the results. RESULTS We included 10 studies, of which were 2 interrupted time series and 8 before-after studies, covering 205,954 elective caesarean births. All studies included various types of implementation strategies. All implementation strategies showed success in decreasing the rate of elective caesarean sections performed < 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation. Risk difference differed from - 7 (95% CI - 8; - 7) to - 45 (95% CI - 51; - 31). Three studies reported the rate of neonatal intensive care unit admission and showed little reduction. CONCLUSION This systematic review shows that all presented implementation strategies to reduce elective caesarean section before 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation are effective. Reduction rates differ widely and it remains unclear which strategy is most successful. Strategies used locally in one hospital seem a little more effective. Included studies are either before-after studies (8) or interrupted time series (2) and the overall quality of the evidence is rather low. However, most of the studies identified specific barriers in the implementation process. For planning an implementation strategy to reduce elective caesarean section before 39 + (0-6) weeks of gestation, it is necessary to consider specific barriers and facilitators and take all obstetric personal into account. O objetivo do VisualPRZM, é sanar estas dificuldades, tornando disponível um banco de dados nacional generalístico e atualizado, tanto on-line (Web) como off-line (local), facilitando sua interação através de uma interface amigável baseada em linguagem de programação de alto nível orientada a objeto, com vistas a adaptação e à popularização do modelo matemático PRZM3

    Quality and risk of bias appraisals of systematic reviews are inconsistent across reviewers and centers

This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the inter-rater and intercenter reliability, usability, and utility of A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR), AMSTAR 2, and Risk Of Bias In Systematic reviews (ROBIS). Study design and setting: This is a prospective evaluation using 30 systematic reviews of randomized trials, undertaken at three international centers. Results: Reviewers completed AMSTAR, AMSTAR 2, and ROBIS in median (interquartile range) 15.7 (11.3), 19.7 (12.1), and 28.7 (17.4) minutes and reached consensus in 2.6 (3.2), 4.6 (5.3), and 10.9 (10.8) minutes, respectively. Across all centers, inter-rater reliability was substantial to almost perfect for 8/11 AMSTAR, 9/16 AMSTAR 2, and 12/24 ROBIS items. Intercenter reliability was substantial to almost perfect for 6/11 AMSTAR, 12/16 AMSTAR 2, and 7/24 ROBIS items. Intercenter reliability for confidence in the results of the review or overall risk of bias was moderate (Gwet's first-order agreement coefficient (AC1) 0.58, 95% confidence intervals [CI]: 0.30 to 0.85) to substantial (AC1 0.74, 95% CI: 0.30 to 0.85) for AMSTAR 2 and poor (AC1 -0.21, 95% CI: -0.55 to 0.13) to moderate (AC1 0.56, 95% CI: 0.30 to 0.83) for ROBIS. It is not clear whether using the appraisals of any tool as an inclusion criterion would alter an overview's findings.     Does regional loss of bone density explain low trauma distal forearm fractures in men (The Mr F study)?

    Summary The pathogenesis of low trauma wrist fractures in men is not fully understood. This study found that these men have lower bone mineral density at the forearm itself, as well as the hip and spine, and has shown that forearm bone mineral density is the best predictor of wrist fracture. Introduction Men with distal forearm fractures have reduced bone density at the lumbar spine and hip sites, an increased risk of osteoporosis and a higher incidence of further fractures. The aim of this case-control study was to investigate whether or not there is a regional loss of bone mineral density (BMD) at the forearm between men with and without distal forearm fractures. Methods Sixty-one men with low trauma distal forearm fracture and 59 age-matched bone healthy control subjects were recruited. All subjects underwent a DXA scan of forearm, hip and spine, biochemical investigations, health questionnaires, SF-36v2 and Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX). The non-fractured arm was investigated in subjects with fracture and both forearms in control subjects. Results BMD was significantly lower at the ultradistal forearm in men with fracture compared to control subjects, in both the dominant (mean (SD) 0.386 g/cm2 (0.049) versus 0.436 g/cm2 (0.054), p < 0.001) and non-dominant arm (mean (SD) 0.387 g/cm2 (0.060) versus 0.432 g/cm2 (0.061), p = 0.001). Fracture subjects also had a significantly lower BMD at hip and spine sites compared with control subjects. Logistic regression analysis showed that the best predictor of forearm fracture was ultradistal forearm BMD (OR = 0.871 (0.805–0.943), p = 0.001), with the likelihood of fracture decreasing by 12.9% for every 0.01 g/cm2 increase in ultradistal forearm BMD. Conclusions Men with low trauma distal forearm fracture have significantly lower regional BMD at the ultradistal forearm, which contributes to an increased forearm fracture risk. They also have generalised reduction in BMD, so that low trauma forearm fractures in men should be considered as indicator fractures for osteoporosis

    The DLEU2–miR-15a–16-1 Cluster Is a Determinant of Bone Microarchitecture and Strength in Postmenopausal Women and Mice

    \ua9 2024 by the authors. This study explores how select microRNAs (miRNAs) influence bone structure in humans and in transgenic mice. In trabecular bone biopsies from 84 postmenopausal women (healthy, osteopenic, and osteoporotic), we demonstrate that DLEU2 (deleted in lymphocytic leukemia 2)-encoded miR-15a-5p is strongly positively associated with bone mineral density (BMD) at different skeletal sites. In bone transcriptome analyses, miR-15a-5p levels correlated positively with the osteocyte characteristic transcripts SOST (encoding sclerostin) and MEPE (Matrix Extracellular Phosphoglycoprotein), while the related miR-15b-5p showed a negative association with BMD and osteoblast markers. The data imply that these miRNAs have opposite roles in bone remodeling with distinct actions on bone cells. Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) variants confirmed earlier DLEU2 associations. Furthermore, a novel variant (rs12585295) showed high localization with transcriptionally active chromatin states in osteoblast primary cell cultures. The supposition that DLEU2-encoded miRNAs have an important regulatory role in bone remodeling was further confirmed in a transgenic mice model showing that miR-15a/16-1-deleted mice had significantly higher percentage bone volume and trabecular number than the wild type, possibly due to prenatal actions. However, the three-point mechanical break force test of mice femurs showed a positive correlation between strength and miR-15a-5p/miR-16-5p levels, indicating differential effects on cortical and trabecular bone. Moreover, these miRNAs appear to have distinct and complex actions in mice prenatally and in adult humans, impacting BMD and microstructure by regulating bone cell transcription. However, detailed interactions between these miRNAs and their downstream mechanisms in health and disease need further clarification
