    Estado Da Arte Da Literatura Científica Sobre Hancornia Speciosa: Tendências E Lacunas

    Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)The economic and scientific interest in Hancornia speciosa (mangabeira) has been growing in recent years, mainly due to the marketing of fruit and extraction of natural compounds with high pharmacological potential. In this study, a scientometric survey about mangabeira was carried out in order to promote and direct future studies on the species. As a result, low scientific productivity associated with this species was found, with only 131 articles published in the last 69 years. In addition, this study identified some trends in bibliographic production on mangabeira, among them: the increasing number of articles over the years; scientific dissemination in nationwide journals; the main focus of this study is associated with agronomic studies; the experimental approach is more frequent and usually associated with populations of restricted geographical distribution; and the scientific production is mainly from education institutions. Furthermore, this study also allowed the identification of some gaps in knowledge about mangabeira, among them the difficulty in describing and characterizing botanical lines; lack of analysis of the genetic diversity of widely distributed populations; lack of management and conservation projects for the species; lack of description of cultivation, collection and preservation techniques of fruits; and lack of identification of natural compounds responsible for its pharmacological activity.     2D magnetic domain wall ratchet: The limit of submicrometric holes

    The study of ratchet and crossed-ratchet effects in magnetic domain wall motion through 2D arrays of asymmetric holes is extended in this article to the submicrometric limit in hole size (small size regime). Therefore, the gap has been closed between the 2D ratchets in the range of tens-of-micrometers (large size regime) and the small size regime 1D ratchets based on nanowires. The combination of Kerr microscopy, X-ray PhotoEmission Electron Microscopy and micromagnetic simulations has allowed a full magnetic characterisation of both the domain wall (DW) propagation process over the whole array and the local DW morphology and pinning at the holes. It is found that the 2D small size limit is driven by the interplay between DW elasticity and half vortex propagation along hole edges: as hole size becomes comparable to DW width, flat DW propagation modes are favoured over kinked DW propagation due to an enhancement of DW stiffness, and pinned DW segments adopt asymmetric configurations related with Néel DW chirality. Nevertheless, both ratchet and crossed-ratchet effects have been experimentally found, and we propose a new ratchet/inverted-ratchet effect in the submicrometric range driven by magnetic fields and electrical currents respectively

    Double percolation effects and fractal behavior in magnetic/superconducting hybrids

    Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy ferromagnetic/superconducting (FM/SC) bilayers with a labyrinth domain structure are used to study nucleation of superconductivity on a fractal network, tunable through magnetic history. As clusters of reversed domains appear in the FM layer, the SC film shows a percolative behavior that depends on two independent processes: the arrangement of initial reversed domains and the fractal geometry of expanding clusters. For a full labyrinth structure, the behavior of the upper critical field is typical of confined superconductivity on a fractal network

    Enhancing the liquid phase exfoliation of graphite in both aqueous and organic mixtures

    Two different solvent mixtures, aqueous and organic, were used in the graphite liquid phase exfoliation. These solvent mixtures were selected through a detailed study of Hansen Solubility Parameters. Different operational sonication parameters (sonication temperature, cycle, amplitude and time) were studied in order to analyze their influence over the exfoliation process. Exfoliated graphite obtained after different sonication conditions were further characterized by RAMAN spectroscopy and thermogravimetric techniques. Obtained results showed that, among all the studied sonication parameters, time is the most important one due to its influence over characteristics of the final exfoliated product. Thus, it was evidenced the defect formation at higher sonication times, being dominant the growth of bulk defects in the structure of exfoliated samples at sonication times superior to 5 hours. As consequence, a careful tuning of the sonication parameters is necessary in order to obtain exfoliated samples with low disorder.Se utilizaron dos mezclas de disolventes diferentes, acuosa y orgánica, en la exfoliación en fase líquida de grafito. Estas mezclas de disolventes se seleccionaron mediante un estudio detallado de los parámetros de solubilidad de Hansen. Se estudiaron diferentes parámetros operativos de sonicación (temperatura, ciclo, amplitud y tiempo de sonicación) para analizar su influencia sobre el proceso de exfoliación. El grafito exfoliado obtenido después de diferentes condiciones de sonicación se caracterizó aún más mediante espectroscopia RAMAN y técnicas termogravimétricas. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que, entre todos los parámetros de sonicación estudiados, el tiempo es el más importante debido a su influencia sobre las características del producto final exfoliado. Así, se evidenció la formación de defectos a mayores tiempos de sonicación, siendo dominante el crecimiento de defectos de volumen en la estructura de muestras exfoliadas a tiempos de sonicación superiores a 5 horas.     Low-intensity resistance exercise does not affect cardiac autonomic modulation in patients with peripheral artery disease

    OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of a single bout of resistance exercise on cardiac autonomic modulation in patients with peripheral artery disease. METHODS: Fifteen patients with peripheral artery disease (age: 58.3±4.0 years) underwent the following sessions in a random order: resistance exercise (three sets of 10 repetitions of the six resistance exercises with a workload of 5-7 in the OMNI-RES scale) and control (similar to the resistance session; however, the resistance exercises were performed with no load). The frequency domain (low frequency, high frequency and sympathovagal balance) and symbolic analysis (0V, 1V and 2V patterns) of heart rate variability were obtained before and until one hour after the interventions. RESULTS: After the resistance exercise and control sessions, similar increases were observed in the consecutive heartbeat intervals (control: 720.8±28.6 vs. 790.9±34.4 ms; resistance exercise: 712.9±30.1 vs. 756.8±37.9 ms;

    The Differential Impact of SRC Expression on the Prognosis of Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    Aberrant SRC expression and activation is frequently detected in multiple cancers, and hence, targeting SRC has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy. Different SRC inhibitors have demonstrated potent anti-tumor activity in preclinical models, although they largely lack clinical efficacy as monotherapy in late-stage solid tumors, including head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). Adequate selection and stratification of patients who may respond to and benefit from anti-SRC therapies is therefore needed to guide clinical trials and treatment efficacy. This study investigates the prognostic significance of active SRC expression in a homogeneous cohort of 122 human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative, surgically treated HNSCC patients. Immunohistochemical evaluation of the active form of SRC by means of anti-SRC Clone 28 monoclonal antibody was specifically performed and subsequently correlated with clinical data. The expression of p-SRC (Tyr419), total SRC, and downstream SRC effectors was also analyzed. Our results uncovered striking differences in the prognostic relevance of SRC expression in HNSCC patients depending on the tumor site. Active SRC expression was found to significantly associate with advanced disease stages, presence of lymph node metastasis, and tumor recurrences in patients with laryngeal tumors, but not in the pharyngeal subgroup. Multivariate Cox analysis further revealed active SRC expression as an independent predictor of cancer-specific mortality in patients with laryngeal carcinomas. Concordantly, expression of p-SRC (Tyr419) and the SRC substrates focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and the Arf GTPase-activating protein ASAP1 also showed specific associations with poor prognosis in the larynx. These findings could have important implications in ongoing Src family kinase (SFK)-based clinical trials, as these new criteria could help to improve patient selection and develop biomarker-stratified trials
