Compact set of invariants characterizing graph states of up to eight qubits

The set of entanglement measures proposed by Hein, Eisert, and Briegel for n-qubit graph states [Phys. Rev. A 69, 062311 (2004)] fails to distinguish between inequivalent classes under local Clifford operations if n > 6. On the other hand, the set of invariants proposed by van den Nest, Dehaene, and De Moor (VDD) [Phys. Rev. A 72, 014307 (2005)] distinguishes between inequivalent classes, but contains too many invariants (more than 2 10^{36} for n=7) to be practical. Here we solve the problem of deciding which entanglement class a graph state of n < 9 qubits belongs to by calculating some of the state's intrinsic properties. We show that four invariants related to those proposed by VDD are enough for distinguishing between all inequivalent classes with n < 9 qubits.Comment: REVTeX4, 9 pages, 1 figur

El poder constituyente en el primer constitucionalismo hispano

Historiography usually takes constituent power as a sort of monolithic, extraordinary power that is able to generate a new political and social order. If generally speaking this approach is correct, the experience of the first constitutionalism in the Spanish Atlantic contributes to refine this perception. In this essay I analyze how this power was more effective in the field of the ius gentium, that is, when it came to define national sovereignty than in the field of inner public right, that is, in relation with social, domestic an ethnic order.Historiography usually takes constituent power as a sort of monolithic, extraordinary power that is able to generate a new political and social order.

eEF1A mediates the nuclear export of SNAG-containing proteins via the exportin5-aminoacyl-tRNA complex

This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative Works License.Exportin5 mediates the nuclear export of double-stranded RNAs, including pre-microRNAs, adenoviral RNAs, and tRNAs. When tRNAs are aminoacylated, the Exportin5-aminoacyl (aa)-tRNA complex recruits and coexports the translation elongation factor eEF1A. Here, we show that eEF1A binds to Snail transcription factors when bound to their main target, the E-cadherin promoter, facilitating their export to the cytoplasm in association with the aa-tRNA-Exportin5 complex. Snail binds to eEF1A through the SNAG domain, a protein nuclear export signal present in several transcription factor families, and this binding is regulated by phosphorylation. Thus, we describe a nuclear role for eEF1A and provide a mechanism for protein nuclear export that attenuates the activity of SNAG-containing transcription factors. © 2013 The Authors. This work was supported by grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (SAF2010-21143 to A.C.; BFU2008-01042 and CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 CSD2007-00023 to M.A.N.; and CDS2007-00017 to A.C. and M.A.N.’s lab) and the Generalitat Valenciana (Prometeo 2008/049 and PROMETEOII/2013/002 to M.A.N.).Peer Reviewe

The Role of Chiggers as Human Pathogens

    Get PDF
Trombiculid mites (Acari: Trombiculidae) are distributed worldwide ectoparasites of a wide range of vertebrates. More than 50 species are known to bite humans, and about 20 have medical importance. The larval stages (chiggers) of the genus Leptotrombidium are vectors of Orientia tsutsugamushi, causative agent of scrub typhus. This life-threatening disease is widely endemic in Asian Pacific regions where more than one billion people are at risk of acquiring the infection and around one million new cases are estimated to occur annually. In addition, although underreported and often misdiagnosed, trombiculiasis, defined as a dermatitis caused by the salivary secretion of biting chiggers, is present in America and Europe

Defining and measuring different dimensions of financial resources for business eco-innovation and the influence of the firms' capabilities

    Get PDF
Despite the growing number of studies on eco-innovation, the measurement of the specific financial resources applied to the eco-innovation process by firms and its internal management have not been thoroughly elucidated to date. Therefore, the main objectives of this study is to define, classify, and measure different dimensions of financial resources applied to eco-innovation by firms and to analyse the influence of business' technological and environmental management capabilities in the efficient allocation of these resources to undertake investments in eco-innovation. Resource amounts and their quality, availability and public nature are measured using a novel approach that addresses the study of their different aspects as a whole. A partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) on a sample of Spanish companies shows that different dimensions of financial resources influence the eco-innovative investment and the internal management of eco-innovation

La pulga humana Pulex irritans (Siphonaptera: Pulicidae) en el noroeste argentino, una investigación de Bartonella y Rickettsia spp.

Pulex irritans is the only cosmopolitan flea species and the most studied one within the genus Pulex. It has importance in public health since it commonly parasitizes humans causing dermatitis, and it has been also implicated in the transmission of bacterial pathogens. Pulex irritans has been confused with the closely related Pulex simulans species for years. Herein, Pulex specimens collected from a Pampas fox and a Chacoan peccary from northwestern Argentina were identified by comparison with type specimens. In addition, the presence of Bartonella spp. and Rickettsia spp. was investigated using PCR assays. Our results provided characters of diagnostic importance to identify P. irritans, which include the shape of sternite VII in the females, and of the aedeagal sclerite, clasper and crochet in the males. Besides, we report for the first time P. irritans parasitizing a peccary. This finding reinforces the hypothesis of the origin of this flea associated with this mammal, and then colonizing humans and domestic mammals. There was no evidence of Bartonella or Rickettsia DNA in the analyzed fleas. This information even if negative may be considered relevant for P. irritans from Argentina.

Ductility of high-performance concrete and very-high-performance concrete elements with Ni-Ti reinforcements

[EN] This article presents an experimental study on the behavior of high performance concrete (HPC) and very high performance concrete (VHPC) concrete columns with Nickel-Titanium (Ni-Ti) shape memory alloy (SMA) reinforcements in critical regions subjected to constant axial and lateral cyclic load combinations. These materials make the cast-in-place of concrete easier by reducing the amount of transverse reinforcement, improving performance, attenuating damage in critical regions, minimizing residual deformations and reducing repair costs in structures located in seismic areas. Seven experimental tests were carried out to analyze the behavior of this element type. A nonlinear static cyclic pushover analysis was performed with finite element software (OpenSees), whose results were compared with the experimental results. This analysis allowed a parametric analysis to be run to extrapolate the experimental results. Strength capacity was approximately 41.8% greater in absolute terms in the specimens manufactured with VHPC and 6.2% greater in a dimensional terms in those manufactured with HPC. Displacement ductility was 34.0% higher in the HPC specimens, and lowered with relative normal force and with transverse reinforcement separation. A residual drift ratio below 0.70% was generally observed when specimens reached 20% strength capacity loss. The residual drift ratio increased as a result of progressive concrete cover degradation, especially in the specimens manufactured with HPC. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Model based adaptive direct power control for three-level NPC converters

    Get PDF
In this work, a Model Based Adaptive Direct Power Control (MB-ADPC) with constant switching frequency for Three-Phase Three-Level Neutral Point Clamped (3L-NPC) converters is proposed. The rectifier and inverter operation mode are used to illustrate the flexibility of the proposed MB-ADPC controller. The control design process is based on the continuous averaged model of the system. Depending on the operation mode different control objectives have to be guaranteed. The proposed controller ensures the voltage regulation of the dc-link capacitors for the rectifier operation mode and to achieve voltage balance in the dc-link capacitors and the active and reactive power tracking for the rectifier and inverter operation modes. In addition, adaptive techniques are used to avoid system parameters uncertainties as smoothing inductors and grid frequency values. This work shows that the application of advanced control strategies based on the system model allows enhancing the performance of the overall system. The details of the controllers design process and the experimental results using a 50 kVA Three-Phase Three-Level NPC prototype are presented in this paper validating the proposed controllers
