Forecasting monthly us consumer price indexes through a disaggregated I(2) analysis

In this paper we carry a disaggregated study of the monthly US Consumer Price Index (CPI). We consider a breakdown of US CPI in four subindexes, corresponding to four groups of markets: energy, food, rest of commodities and rest of services. This is seen as a relevant way to increase information in forecasting US CPI because the supplies and demands in those markets have very different characteristics. Consumer prices in the last three components show I(2) behavior, while the energy subindex shows a lower order of integration, but with segmentation in the growth rate. Even restricting the analysis to the series that show the same order of integration, the trending behavior of prices in these markets can be very different. An I(2) cointegration analysis on the mentioned last three components shows that there are several sources of nonstationarity in the US CPI components. A common trend analysis based on dynamic factor models confirms these results. The different trending behavior in the market prices suggests that theories for price determinations could differ through markets. In this context, disaggregation could help to improve forecasting accuracy. To show that this conjecture is valid for the non-energy US CPI, we have performed a forecasting exercise of each component, computed afterwards the aggregated value of the non energy US CPI and compared it with the forecasts obtained directly from a model for the aggregate. The improvement in one year ahead forecasts with the disaggregated approach is more than 20%, where the root mean squared error is employed as a measure of forecasting performance

Recognizing complex gestures via natural interfaces

Natural interfaces have revolutionized the way we interact with computers. They have provided in many fields a comfortable and efficient mechanism that requires no computer knowledge, nor artificial controlling devices, but allow as to interoperate via natural gestures. Diverse fields such as entertainment, remote control, medicine, fitness exercise are finding improvements with the introduction of this technology. However, most of these sensorial interfaces only provide support for basic gestures. Underwater acoustic networks

Charla invitada.Wireless underwater acoustic communication systems have become one of the most promising technologies for the development and deployment of future ocean observation and sensor networks. Applications range from oil prospecting and transportation to aquaculture, and include pollution control, climate recording, prediction of natural disturbances, search and survey missions, etc. The high attenuation of electromagnetic waves in underwater medium precludes them from being used as the information vehicle. Therefore, acoustic waves are the most viable alternative for the transmission. Nevertheless, the underwater acoustic channel is not free of drawbacks. On the contrary, it exhibits important obstacles that must be overcome if communication networks are to be implemented in the future. In addition, underwater systems have inherently serious problems of power supply and batteries duration. At the same time, network protocols must take into account the specific characteristics of the transmission medium, not dismissing the slow propagation speed. La Melatonina más allá del Ritmo Circadiano

La melatonina, en el organismo, puede provenir de fuentes exógenas y endógenas. Exógena, porque se puede encontrar en distintos alimentos y ser absorbida en el tracto digestivo, y endógena ya que se produce en la glándula pineal, pequeño órgano situado en el techo del diencéfalo, y es secretada al medio interno. Su síntesis se produce como respuesta al ciclo luz-oscuridad, encontrándose la máxima producción de melatonina en las horas de oscuridad y la mínima en las horas de luz, sigue pues, un ritmo circadiano y adapta a los organismos al ciclo sueño-vigilia. Su secreción puede responder también a estímulos adrenérgicos si la glándula se encuentra activada. Su síntesis se realiza a partir del triptófano captado por los pinealocitos. La producción de melatonina depende también de otros factores como la edad, la estacionalidad o la alimentación. Su principal efecto es el de regular el ritmo circadiano, aunque también parece que tiene efecto como antioxidante, sobre el envejecimiento, la obesidad, entre otros. Beneficios de la lactancia materna asociados a la estimulación de la succión en prematuros desde un punto de vista logopédico

En el mundo actual, las tasas de prematuridad se han ido elevando a lo largo de los años, haciendo que cada vez haya más niños que presentan inmadurez en funciones imprescindibles para la vida, como es el caso de la capacidad para alimentarse. Para que un recién nacido logre una correcta alimentación es necesario que haya desarrollado el reflejo de succión, así como su coordinación con la respiración. Sin embargo, en el caso de los prematuros aún no se ha desarrollado funcionalmente, comprometiendo la alimentación por vía oral. Con este trabajo de fin de grado, se busca asociar la figura del logopeda a la estimulación de la succión en prematuros, para poder lograr una alimentación exitosa por vía oral, basada en la leche materna, que le aporte beneficios. Primero, se ha realizado una fundamentación teórica donde se exponen las dificultades que encontramos en el prematuro, en concreto en la succión, y posteriormente, mediante una revisión sistemática, se han seleccionado y analizado distintos estudios en los que se realizaba una estimulación de la succión para comprobar que las conclusiones a las que llegaban correspondían a la información teórica encontrada y, con ello, evidenciar el objetivo que se contempla en este estudio.Grado en Logopedi

Análisis de los factores determinantes del déficit de la balanza corriente: el caso de España

En este trabajo de fin de grado se va a proceder al estudio de los factores determinantes de la evolución de la balanza corriente y más concretamente del déficit de la balanza corriente, posteriormente también vamos a ver cuál es su comportamiento en la balanza corriente de la economía española. Por otro lado trata el concepto de hipersensibilidad de la balanza corriente al crecimiento diferencial y una serie de medidas para corregir los desequilibrios financieros originados por esta hipersensibilidad y orientadas a la consecución de un equilibrio financiero a largo plazo. Una aproximación bibliográfica a Francisco Suárez como comentador de la “Suma Teológica”

El presente escrito posee un carácter propedéutico en la medida en que pretende un acercamiento a la teología de Francisco Suárez y en particular a su faceta como comentador de la “Suma Teológica” de Tomás de Aquino. Para este propósito hemos presentado un esbozo del corpus teológico suareciano, considerándolo un momento imprescindible para abordar investigaciones posteriores. En concreto, aquella que nos ha determinado a realizar esta búsqueda: su comentario al “De Passionibus” tomista. Situamos narrativamente dicho esquema sobre la empresa editorial emprendida por la Compañía de Jesús tras el deceso de Suárez acaecido en el año 1617. Apuntamos, aún de manera provisional al carácter corporativo que tomó aquélla y a la finalidad de la tarea: disponer de un comentario autónomo de la “Suma Teológica”.This essay has a provisional and preliminary insofar as it seeks an approach to the theology of Francisco Suárez and in particular his role as commentator on the “Summa Theologica” of Thomas Aquinas. For this purpose we have presented a theological corpus suareciano foreshortening, considering it an essential time to address further research. Specifically, we determined that to do this search: his commentary on the “De Passionibus Thomist”. Narrative that we place on the publishing scheme undertaken by the Society of Jesus after the death of Suarez occurred in the year 1617. Eigenstructure of nonstationary factor models

In this paper we present a generalized dynamic factor model for a vector of time series which seems to provide a general framework to incorporate all the common information included in a collection of variables. The common dynamic structure is explained through a set of common factors, which may be stationary or nonstationary, as in the case of cornmon trends. AIso, it may exist a specific structure for each variable. Identification of the nonstationary I(d) factors is made through the cornmon eigenstructure of the generalized covariance matrices, properly normalized. The number of common trends, or in general I(d) factors, is the number of nonzero eigenvalues of the above matrices. It is also proved that these nonzero eigenvalues are strictIy greater than zero almost sure. Randomness appears in the eigenvalues as well as the eigenvectors, but not on the subspace spanned by the eigenvectors

Forecasting with nostationary dynamic factor models

In this paper we analyze the structure and the forecasting performance of the dynamic factor model. It is shown that the forecasts obtained by the factor model imply shrinkage pooling terms, similar to the ones obtained from hierarchical Bayesian models that have been applied successfully in the econometric literature. Thus, the results obtained in this paper provide an additional justification for these and other types of pooling procedures. The expected decrease in MSE f or using a factor model versus univariate ARIMA models, shrinkage univariate models or vector ARMA models are studied f or the one factor model. It is proved that some substantial gains can be obtained in some cases with respect to the univariate forecasting. Monte Carlo simulations are presented to illustrate this result. A factor model is built to forecast GNP of European countries and it is shown that the factor model provides better forecasts than both univariate and shrinkage univariate forecasts

Emotions, identity, tourism, and life in Huasca (Mexico)

El tema de este texto son las emociones y la identidad como parte del imaginario del turismo cultural, parte de las nuevas tendencias del turismo en el mundo, y de las propuestas del Programa Pueblos Mágicos en México. Es interesante conocer y contrastar lo que habitantes y turistas perciben y sienten de una localidad. Para ello se revisan testimonios de entrevistas a turistas y habitantes de Huasca, estado de Hidalgo, primer nombramiento del Programa y destino turístico enclavado en la sierra de Pachuca en el centro del país. Los resultados apuntan a emociones que van de la tranquilidad a la alegría para ambos sujetos de estudio, entre otras cosas.This text is about emotions and identity as a part of the imagination of cultural tourism, based on new trends in tourism in the world, and of the proposals of the Programa Pueblos Mágicos in Mexico. It is interesting to know and check what residents and tourists perceive and feel of a town. Interviews to tourists and residents of Huasca, State of Hidalgo, the first appointment of the program and tourist destination in the sierra de Pachuca in the center of the country are reviewed.
